The Edison hotel is located at 47th and Broadway, have stayed there several times, very convenient, clean, has a cool deli-restaurant and supper club and it is reasonable. I don't think you can stay anywhere that's quiet. The Broadway Inn is also very nice but there is a club or theatre next door and it is noisy at nite, really liked the place tho.

I'd second the Bentley hotel on the upper east side as recommended earlier. I'd say it is in a lovely, quiet neighbourhood that is not all that far from mid-town Manhattan. The nearest subway is at Lexington (59th Street) and 3rd Ave (about a 10/15 minute walk)and failing that, there is no problem picking up a cab right outside the hotel. The rates cannot be beaten (125.00 per night we paid last summer), the rooms are great- very spacious and clean, nice views of the 59th street bridge from the one we had, there is a whole range of restaurants (some of them very good) within blocks of the hotel, green grocers on practically every street corner. Definetly worthy of consideration in my books.

DeeDee, to answer all of your questions, yes. At the Salisbury, the bedroom is separate from the living room, the sofa in the living room is a sofa sleeper, and it is very suitable for families. Like I stated earlier, I've never stayed there but my parents do quite frequently and love it. I have visited my parents there on several occaisions. It seems to appeal to musicians playing at Carnegie Hall and Europeans.
