Proper way to enter / exit a rotary?
The general rules seem to be: Vehicles in the rotary have the right of way; exit the rotary from the rightmost lane only!
Thank you for clarifying! Now I can sleep!!
I enter Rotary every Tuesday through the front door of the Town Hall meeting room, and exit the same way.
What's the big controversy?
Am I missing something?
With closed eyes and a quick prayer.
When I lived in DC, I used the prayer technique and an old car. Washington Circle was particularly intimidating at first. I kept the engine in ok shape, but the fenders looked like they had been used at Gettysburg for target practice.
As my boss said, just barrel your way through. Except he had a few more nouns, expletives, and adjectives to go along with barrel.
Geez, if you can't figure it out for yourself maybe you need to stay home or take the bus...
After growing up in Boston area & driving there, I was well prepared for the crazy traffic in Rome (or any of Italy's major cities) --- in fact, I think we may have the ancient romans to blame for creating the rotary concept to being with!
At least in DC, they're traffic circles, not rotaries. It's how we torture tourists.
When I first moved to the DC area, I hated traffic circles. But now, I kind of like them. They are nice to look at, they deter speeding, they funnel traffic reasonably well, and you're less likely to have a very bad accident in one. Besides, no one has figured out how to put a strip mall adjacent to one.

My husband still flinches when I navigate one though, because the best strategy seems to be just show no fear.
