Portland, OR breakfast & lunch
 

Any favorites you'd like to share in Portland, OR for breakfast & lunch. Mainly in downtown although other areas okay, and I'm looking for mainly casual/ cheap ($10- an entree or less). We'll be there later this week. Thanks! :-)

There are lots of options, so you are in luck.

For breakfast try Mother's Bistro, Lorn and Dotties, Everett St. Bistro, and Red Star Tavern. The Pearl Bakery has really good cappuccino's and pastries/breads.

For lunch, those same places as well add the Park Bistro and Piazza Italia. The Nordstrom Cafe actually has some great lunches as well. Not unique to Portland, but definitely good. The good thing about Portland is that everything is casual, so just go with your budget and you will be set.

Thanks mms. I've heard about the Pearl bakery, though am glad to have a good list now. We are staying with friends in Portland, though they don't seem to eat out much.

Breakfast: Zell's in SE on Morrison and about 11th. Or Bridges (tiny place) on NE Martin Luther King at Knott, across the street from Nike.

I will second all of mms´ recommendations..if Greasy Spoon appeals to you, there is the ByWays cafe on NW Glisan and Fullers Coffee shop on the same block as the Pearl Bakery.
Everett St Bistro makes THE BEST french toast...sorry mms, even better than your pancake :)

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes, I did see that other post though thought a fresh post with both breakfast and lunch was a good idea.

One of the most inexpensive (if you can control yourself) lunches is at Whole Foods Grocery. They have a GREaT salad bar, soup bar, cold entrees and warm entrees. Sandwiches and pizza too.
Close to teh famous bookstore and a couple of out door stores too. Prking under teh stoe right downtown.

By famous bookstore, I think you mean Powells, correct? I've been there a few times but plan to go back.

My absolute favorite place for breakfast is the Cricket Cafe on 24th and Belmont. DEE LISH!

Cadillac Cafe. Their french toast is stuffed and marvelous. all the other is great too. I also second Mothers.

Hi all- We're back and we did eat at Byways with dessert and espresso at Pearl Bakery. Both were great and I'll do a trip report with other places later. :-)

We are just back from Portland and had our best breakfasts at Cadillac Cafe. But also much enjoyed St. Honore bakery and Everett St. Bistro and Mother's for breakfasts. So many great options!

I couldn't believe how much the Pearl District, and Portland in general, had changed in the past 10 years. You are right, so many options, so little time. :-)

i was looking at a Portland restaurant in NW called Paley's Place. They serve lunch and dinner. It has received many prestigious food awards. Would like to know if anyone has eatten there?

Been there several times, nanabee, and each was a good experiences. Paley's is consistently ranked in Portland's top five. My only knock is that it's in a converted old home, with small rooms. So, tables are jammed together.

Have you looked at Carlyle? How about Wildwood?

Hi Nanabee- I've eaten at Paley's four times- three times it was incredible, although one sunday night (when the owners were gone) it wasn't as polished.

Very romantic spot, or fun for a small group too. Food is wonderful- menu changes based on the seasons.

nanabee, Paley's is very nice, we like to dine out on the front porch, the food and service are excellent. Wildwood and Carlyle are also very good. Another place we enjoyed for lunch this past March was Park Kitchen in the Pearl District, Ten 01 is also very good in this same area. ***kim*** ((f))
