popcorn on a plane

does anyone know if microwave popcorn stays intact in your luggage on a plane?

gail Mar 16th, 2007 05:38 AM

Are you totally frazzled about travelling or do you not know how this board works. You posted the exact same question 1 hour ago - I even responded.

mommacl Mar 16th, 2007 05:47 AM

Maybe I am totally frazzled about travelling & I do know how this board works.I asked my daughter to check the post & she couldn't find it. I have lost a post here before. And yes I wanted to know if it would pop mid-air.

fmpden Mar 16th, 2007 06:04 AM

This is nuts !!! If you want to find your posts, click on your name. Why would popcorn pop on an airplane? It takes heat to pop popcorn. I have always said that there is no such thing as a stupid question, but this is close.

pepper131 Mar 16th, 2007 06:09 AM

Don't you remember the lesson from elementary school - in the Fall...when our teachers would tell us how popcorn "pops" because of a small amount of moisture in the kernal that explodes when heat is added - you have POPCORN!!!

carolyna Mar 16th, 2007 06:21 AM

Why are you all being so rude to mommacl? So unnecessary!

NJriverchick Mar 16th, 2007 06:23 AM

It really is a dumb question....

Dukey Mar 16th, 2007 06:26 AM

Mommacl,

Please don't be put off by the experts. Once you become one of the Fodorite "favored posters" these same people will be falling all over themselves even if you take a dump in their lap.

Keith Mar 16th, 2007 06:26 AM

Lets not be quite so harsh. mommacl has probably heard something about vacuum popping and wondered if the pressure dropped low enough in the cargo area for that to happen.

Dukey,

Favored posters? Is there a club?

fmpden Mar 16th, 2007 06:34 AM

This reminds me an earlier discussion on another site about the compression packing bags causing luggage to explode in the airplane. The poster believed it was a big problem for airlines and could cause the plane to crash. The lack of fundamental understanding for basic physics is sad.

fmpden Mar 16th, 2007 06:41 AM

Keith, I doubt if that was the original thought. But it is the same kind of thinking that requires bicycle tires to be deflated before shipping as luggage. Concern about tires "exploding" at the same time no one worries about airplane tires exploding. Not much vaccum at 30,000 feet.

Just for your (and your daughter's) info - the only foolproof way to find your posts is to click on your name.

most of the forums (except for "News and Announcements") are quite active and a thread willl drop off the first page pretty quickly - especially during USA daytime hours.

BoniseA Mar 16th, 2007 06:45 AM

Anyway, I have put microwave popcorn many times in my checked luggage and it is just fine.

Many hotels give you popcorn in the room. Being cheap, I take it home.

mommacl Mar 16th, 2007 06:47 AM

Excuse me, but I don't think I was rude first!

Thank you, Dukey.

Yes Keith...the pressure dropping low enough in the cargo area for that to happen was my thoght.

I didn't think the chances were that great, but it was a lot more interesting question than "what's the best hotel in _____", posted right after "whats the best hotel in _____".

I didn't know the questions here needed to be up to some standard, or you get jumped!

And I quess I'm the only one who posted 2x's.

mommacl Mar 16th, 2007 06:51 AM

By the way .....

THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE NICE.

and didn't treat me like an idiot.

marleneawe Mar 16th, 2007 06:56 AM

ROFLMA off. Yep and it will fill the plane and the plane will crash. ROFLMAO

lizziea06 Mar 16th, 2007 07:15 AM

Innocent question - why do people travel with microwave popcorn in the first place?

zztopz Mar 16th, 2007 07:22 AM

As someone who posts occasionally, I have to say that I have noticed a "nasty undertone" before- not even including this post. I may be wrong, but it seems that some "professional" travelers get "upset" when an "unprofessional" traveler may ask an "unprofessional" question. I notice that often times the reply will be to "look up the same topic". Maybe someone wants another opinion. Now I know that this doesn't have to do with microwave popcorn. I hope that I am not upsetting the "professional" poppers!

suze Mar 16th, 2007 07:23 AM

lizzie~ I was wondering the same, but afraid to ask... since everyone was so busy making fun of the post.

mommacl~ sorry about that (i'll apologize for the group) by the way!
