Personally, I wouldn't use public transportation. I would definitely drive -- check out the one-way rental car rates to/from. Probably will be cheaper than parking costs and less hassle. ((b))

"Dh wants to take Amtrak into Penn" . . . I wouldn't depend on Amtrak getting me ANYWHERE on time! If your husband is totally opposed to driving to JFK, you could take Metro North into GCT and take the New York Airport Service bus straight to JFK. It's $27 per person round trip - not as economical as a few plans above but there is less changing of transportation modes involved. http://www.nyairportservice.com/index.html

I totally understand about you arriving home non-jetlagged. We fly home from Europe a lot and go to work the next morning and from then on it's "business as usual".

This is much ado about nothing.

Whoever is driving should make these decisions and the other party should butt out.

This thead keeps coming back up but I noticed no one mentioned flying down to JFK from Albany. Surely there are commuter airlines that do this route, Albany is the state capitol afterall and NY is ... well NY. Whatever it costs it has to be worth it instead of various methods of public transportation (with luggage).

Believe me, I already checked it out but it's about $300 pp, almost as much as the flight to france - not worth it.
