Edie has taken a turn for the worse with her latest posting requesting ideas for a dream vacation. Just wanted to warn you all not to post to her questions if you don't want to be ripped into. I would also not listen to her advice if she posts on your questions.

Who made you the Fodor's police????

Mary Jul 10th, 2001 10:38 AM

Read the post this makes total sense.

Lizzie Jul 10th, 2001 10:41 AM

Yikes! You people! The guy's response to Edie's question was, quite frankly, a bit condescending and showed that he hadn't read the question very carefully at all. And yes, Edie overreacted a little. But what is this, kindergarten? Telling people not to answer her questions or take her advice as some kind of punishment? Chill OUT, people.

AvoidingEdie2 Jul 10th, 2001 11:00 AM

Lizzie, It's not kindergarten but we don't come to this website for the kind of response edie gave. And a bit condesending does not warrant profanity and out right abuse. Go with the flow you say do that and this site will alienate any intelligent responses.

As I just wrote on her thread, wouldn't it be more appropriate if Edie changed her last name to "Dickwoman"?

edie Jul 10th, 2001 02:28 PM

ahhhhh, I had a bet with a frind to see just how many posts I could generate..
I won BTW..childs play

Babs Jul 10th, 2001 02:33 PM

Only a fool would believe that.

curious Jul 10th, 2001 02:35 PM

Whats a frind?

edie Jul 10th, 2001 02:42 PM

you took the time to point out I missed an e??????????????????? bored??

xxxxx Jul 10th, 2001 03:03 PM

Yes I'm board.

curious Jul 10th, 2001 03:11 PM

It took no time at all Edie. Now, pointing out all the mispellings and incorrect grammar on your other post WOULD be a waste of my time.
If I were really bored I'd launch into a vulgar discussion just to see how many responses I could get. You must have one hell of an exciting life if that is what you do for kicks. I'm monitoring some work that someone is doing online so I'm just trying to amuse myself between keystrokes. Thanks for the entertainment.

Seems that Edie keeps pretty busy with her multiple personalities. Here's one psoting where she goes on about luxurious hotels and next we find her staying at Motel 6. Or maybe Motel 6 is luxurious for Edie.

Author: edie ([email protected])
Date: 8/20/2000, 12:53 pm ET

Message: please help with this dilemma....we got a gift cert for the francis malbone inn that we are planning on using the night of 10/8-10/9 which is our anniversary. they have no rooms for Sat nite, and we want to do two nights in newport. we can't find ANY rooms for just sat nite, so our choices seem to be 2 nights at a regular old B&B and use the GC another time, or only one night at the malbone. this is our first anniversary, i am totally into luxurious hotel rooms, and don't want to give this up, but want more than one night!!
help!

Author: edie
Date: 5/25/2001, 9:43 am ET

Message: mamabaker,
You're not the only one with a limited travel budget.
My best friend moved to southern California five years ago. Ever since then we've wanted to make the trip out there but other things (like orthodontist bills) kept getting in the way. This year we've finally paid the ortho off and decided, no matter what, we're going.
Then mortgage interest rates fell, just as my livingroom carpet needed replaced and my fridge started making funny noises. we looked around and realized how cramped we were in our tiny, ratty place and decided to do a big remodel/addition project. There goes the vacation fund, I thought. But no, hubby says, there are loans out there where you don't have to pay money up front - and the trip was back on.
There may loans like that out there, but they don't fit our project. We've got to put a couple of thousand out for surveys, a project manager, appraisal ... and now our vacation budget looks like LESS than $3000, for two weeks, four people, all the way from Indiana to LA and back again.
We've decided to just do it. Air travel is out, of course, so are most of the fancier hotels and chain amusement parks. Instead, we're seeing the USA in our Chevrolet.
We're heading out to west with a stopover at a Motel 6, then spending my son's 16th birthday hanging out at all the free skateboard parks we can find between North Platte, NE and Grand Junction, CO. The next day we're taking the scenic route to Vegas, where we've got a hotel for $45/ night. We'll arrive after dinner and spend the evening gawking at the people and all the free sights. The next morning we'll fill up on the huge cheap breakfast, swim a little and let the teens loose at the Circus Circus Adventuredome (less than $20 each). After stuffing ourselves silly at an amazingly inexpensive lunch buffet, we'll head out to my friends where I'll lounge by her pool for a night and a day while my hubby and kids hit the beach to surf. Next, we all head down to Mexico. There, we'll spend a few days at a 4star resort on the beach for less than $100/night.
On the trip back, we're staying in Laughlin for around $50/night (and more cheap food). Then on to Slide Rock near Sedona (virtually free) and up to the Grand Canyon for sunset ($20) and back to Flagstaff for the cheapest motel we can find that doesn't look buggy ;^)
We'll spring for a decent hotel with a good pool the next night - wherever we are - then drive like heck the next day to arrive at my dad's place at Lake of the Ozarks. The food, lodging and entertainment there are free - we pay in hugs. And finally home.
I figure we've got about $700 in hotel costs. When you subtract the money we would spend for groceries at home, we've got nearly $800 we can spend on meals. The gas is (thank heavens) paid for by my husband's company. That leaves almost $1500 we can spend on park admissions, surfboard rentals, souvenirs and incidentals.
Plush vacations at luxury resorts are wonderful. Being on a tight budget makes you plan a little more and changes the way you look at your trip. I think this is going to be an adventure. It will be a return to the way we travelled when we were newly married. We'll see sights we'd never have the opportunity to wander up on if we flew to a destination. I can't wait to get started.

Why would anyone take advice from a person who just makes fools of the helpful Fodor posters?

Quick Jul 10th, 2001 03:33 PM

You know, I had an inkling that we were dealing with a multiple personality disorder. It seems that for a (very)short time yesterday we had the good Edie, now it seems the bad Edie has returned. Can anyone recommend a good shrink to help poor Edie?

edie Jul 10th, 2001 04:31 PM

Wow.

this is really edie. the quote from my post about francis malbone house was me, al the posts from earlier this year on the europe board about my feb 2001 trip to ireland were really me.

the other posts in this thread are NOT me. i've been posting on this board off and on for a while, more than a year, and have never been rude to anyone.

Today the answer to my dream vacation post from sloane really hit a nerve. I've had a rough week and vented a lot of frustrations on that post. i overreacted and am sorry for doing that.

but i am NOT a troll, like i said the other posts with my name on them on this thread are NOT from me.

Timber Jul 10th, 2001 05:11 PM

Edie: I'd suggest that you start posting under another name if you ever intend to get a straight answer again on this forum. While it was noble of you to provide an apology, I can't relate to ever having such a bad week that I felt the need to use vulgar language on a travel forum. Sounds like you might be in need of more help than just a luxurious vacation!

WhereCouldSheBe? Jul 10th, 2001 06:07 PM

Oh, if only we had some words of wisdom from Oaktown Traveler right now!

edie Jul 10th, 2001 06:20 PM

Timber, i appreciate your sentiments. i am not trying to be noble by apologizing, i am doing the right thing.

as to the events that led me to have such a bad day...honestly i wouldn't wish them on anyone, not even the people bashing me on this board.

edie Jul 10th, 2001 06:22 PM

Also,

I find it interesting that i am acccused of being a troll, yet i am using my real name, while many of those bashing me are hiding.

so it's ok to bash someone as long as you do it anonymously? i didn't realize that was the way the board worked.
