Planning 2nd Boston trip - Is therea website that...
 

I am trying to get really organized and make a list of the Metro Boston/Cambridge areas with their attractions and places to eat. (By the way, I consider places to eat as an attraction in itself and would gladly plan activities around a restaurant ... I can't be the only one! ;-) I am a TRUE Chowhound. LOL!!)

Is there a website that will help me with this task? I have been looking, but can't really find what I am looking for.

By the way, since I have your attention - Where is Watertown?

Watertown is a close suburb, just west of Cambridge. It is easily accessible to Cambridge by public transportation and (a little less easily) to Boston.

As a local, I like in Cambridge, Henrietta's Table, Dali's (cambridge/somerville line and Oleander.
In Boston, Troquet, Hamersley's Bistro, East Coast Grill, Aquitaine(except at noicy breakfast/brunch), all the Legal's for the freshest oysters, Helmond's (Sp?) The Aphganistan restaurant in Cambridge. Brasserie Jo in Copley Sq. for fruit de Mer.

If you're heading over to Watertown and are looking for a good Greek restaurant, I used to eat at the Aegean Restaurant on Arsenal Street in Watertown at least once every two weeks...quite tasty.

For things to do, check out the Boston CVB website, should help you out. Also search on this forum as I know I've read several trip reports for Boston.

Watertown borders both Boston and Cambridge, easy to drive to or take public transit. You can also park there with minimal effort. In Watertown I would suggest the Deluxe Diner for breakfast-Sweet Potato Pecan Pancakes or Sepal for good cheap Middle Easter Food.

For Boston I would suggest eating in the most interesting areas of the city. Check out Charles Street on Beacon Hill, Hanover Street in the North End and Newbury Street in the Back Bay. The chowhound.com Boston group is very good.

Unless the recent floods have accomplished something really drastic, such as washing away Newton Corner, Watertown does not border Boston.

W_a_G, as we suggested for your last trip, a good map of the area would help you get your bearings. Also, the trip planner at www.mbta.com and various road-trip planners like mapquest can be very handy.

Watertown does indeed border Boston, it borders Brighton. But I wouldn't think there's anything too exciting for a tourist to see there.

Hey anonymous, I was sort of thinking the same thing, ie that Watertown does *not* border Boston--BUT, Arsenal Street in Watertown becomes Western Ave in Brighton which *is* Boston, so I think that Watertown does border Boston....just not the parts where tourists tend to go.

No, I am not looking for dining tips.(Actually that is NOT a bad thing! :) I don't mind reading the tips!) NO, I am not trying to get my bearings. (The Watertown question was impulse because I was reading about it a few minutes prior to posting) I took your advice last time and DID buy a map (but it doesn't have attractions and restaurants on it.)

Yes, I have Googled. Yes, I am on Chowhound ALL THE TIME.

Since I am having a hard time communicating, this is what I would like to do (and I am looking for websites to help me out)

Area:
The Fenway

Attractions:

Gardener Museum
MFA
Fenway Park

Places to eat:

El Pelon


What I am hoping to do is simplify things for myself - This is probably more info than you want, but I have fibromyalgia very bad and it will help if I am not running all over all day.

So if I feel like maybe going to the Gardener museum - maybe I can go to the MFA and eat at El Pelon in the same day. (Just an example)

Does this make sense?

The MFA plan is good, The Gardner is about a 5 minute walk from the MFA and El Pelon is about a 10 minute walk from the Gardner. Try not to go to El Pelon right at busy lunch or dinner times if you want to find a seat, it is a very small place.

Another good art museum is the Fogg Art in Harvard Sq.

Hopefully now I will get some more replies.

I spent a week there in May - so I am not clueless about the area...

It is just a little more difficult than I thought grouping areas together. (Even using my guidebook as a guide )

If you go to Yahoo maps, type in your address or intersection, get the map, then on the right you can click on restaurants, businesses, attractions in that area. This may help. I use it sometimes.
