Pizza in Oahu?
My wife and I will be traveling to Oahu in May. We will be staying at the Hale Koa. Who has the best Pizza in town.
Round Table Pizza on the grounds of the Hilton Hawaiian Village was excellent. You do not have to be a guest of the hotel to eat there.
Arancino's on BeachWalk (quite close by to your hotel) is terrific. It's a nice casual Italian restaurant not only pizza. Get there early because there's always a waiting list as the evening goes on.

"best" is kind of subjective, I guess it depends what you are looking for.
Boston North End pizza in Kaimuki is very good and very popular. I just went to Magoo's in Puck's Alley near the University, their shrimp scampi pizza is excellent. they also have kalua pig pizza but it's heavy on the BBQ sauce. Don Ho's Island Grill in Aloha Tower Marketplace has these long, surfboard pizzas that are popular (and good!). |
The heck with pizza, take me with you to the Hale Koa, THE WORLD'S BEST BARGAIN!!!!!
I believe the italian place at the Hale Koa had very good pizza. We were at the HK almost 5 years ago, and the dining was a great bargain (good food too!). No tax and I loved the PX too! :-)

The place at Hale Koa with the good pizza is Bibas:

I second Melissa about Boston. Very good NY style you can get by the slice. I'm also a big fan of the pizzas at Kona Brewing in Hawaii Kai.

Everyone seems to have a different definition of "good pizza." If you're from the east coast like I am, pizza needs to be in slices not in a "mini-pizza" to be authentic. When traveling by myself in Oahu last December I stopped a few times at cheap places that advertised pizza but turned out to be some little frozen mini they'd defrost and bake for you. Tried that a few times - no thanks.
I did find a decent, casual, cheap place (outdoor dining, pay when you order) place in Haleiwa on the North Shore. It was called Spaghettini and they had a few different varieties of pizza pies with slices, even at dinner time. Also your basic Italian food. Probably not to be compared to New York's best but still decent - definitely worth a stop if you are looking for that kind of casual dining as opposed to a formal dinner. |
Interesting that this is marknelis' first and only post. Will we ever hear from this poster again?
Be patient. It hasn't even been a day. Not everyone is online all day or even every day like we are. :-)
Oh about Pizza, I like both the NY slice and the wood fired individual ones. :-)
whut!! they don't all get sucked into the vortex like us??
:D |
IMHO, take it or leave it. I like Big Kahuna's in Mapunapuna (Moving to near the airport). Harbor Pub. Antonio's near the Kahala Mall (very greasy NY style made by authentic Joisey boys) Also like Magoo's and their hot ham & mushroom sandwich.
If you've never tried California Pizza Kitchen, there's a branch in Honolulu, I think. I don't know if it's the best pizza in town but good if you've never been.
I think CPK is a good not great wood fired pizza. In my recollection, the one at Bibas right there at the Hale Koa is better.
We like Volcano Joe's for casual and Fromaggio for a bit of Italy.
I must take the time to say thank you all. I did not think that I would get that many posts in reply to this. The information you have all provided will be very helpful.
