Photos from SF Get Together

A good time was had by all, and now you can see the evidence (courtesy of Resident Photographer Phil Flash) with your own eyes at:

http://www.worldisround.com/articles/23795/index.html

Should you have any problems with that address, you can go to www.worldisround.com click on Personal Articles and search for "SF Fodors". Would love to hear your comments! :-D

PS I've never done this before, and I found worldisround very easy and intuitive to use.

cigalechanta Oct 27th, 2003 02:12 PM

Great shots, thanks Marylyn.
Hey Kir, I want that eiffel tower. Where did you get it?

FainaAgain Oct 27th, 2003 02:25 PM

I would say great pictures if my modesty allowed me to say it ;)

I remember 3 cameras flashing, one of them mine, but I'm not done with the film yet, maybe after my November trip, sorry.

Cigale, sorry to say you've missed much more then just that tower. Next year?

Scarlett Oct 27th, 2003 02:48 PM

What fun to put faces to the names :)
I love the photos, everyone looks so happy..a very nice bunch of smiley faces!
I know I would be right at home there, especially since I noticed, I have the same Eiffel Tower and the poster of the "Kissers"!
We got ours at Alfies in London years ago :)
The food looked quite impressive too..I suddenly have this craving for cheesecake~

KirRoyale Oct 27th, 2003 03:17 PM

Hi Cigalechanta,

I got the Eiffel Tower at Target (pronounced Tar-zhay at my house!). I have another in my back yard, so that I can legitimately say my flat has a view of the Eiffel!

Kir

KirRoyale Oct 27th, 2003 03:22 PM

FainaAgain,

Thank you so much for your very nice card!

Kir & Mr. Kir

Meesthare Oct 27th, 2003 03:33 PM

Yeah, "Mariln" - amazing that you can take trick photos that make you look like more than one person. How did you do that, anyway? :)

Meesthare Oct 27th, 2003 03:39 PM

I wasn't aware that Mariln had any other alises. But thank you for explaining the trick photos. Now, will you please go away?

obxgirl Oct 27th, 2003 03:52 PM

Great photos! It looks like y'all had a great time! Thanks for sharing.

Robinsen, why don't you scurry back under that bridge you call home? I'm sure you'll get an invitation to the next party once you learn to play well with the others.

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 03:58 PM

Oh my, I seem to have passed up Jason. I'm the leader for today.

Robinsen, I don't want to get help. I like having all these multiple personalities. It's never lonely, for one thing, and there's never a problem having enough people for charades.

Whoever all those people were, we sure did have a good time! :-D

Scarlett Oct 27th, 2003 04:06 PM

Is it impossible to have a thread now without this moron posting on it?
Lake/Robinsen/whatever your real name is, PLEASE STOP THIS.

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 04:07 PM

By the way, Robinsen/Lake/Guano, that was an open party posted extensively on this forum. If you had responded to the invitation you would have received a warm welcome and details on the party so you could have attended. But that would have disturbed the fabric of your reality just a bit too much, wouldn't it?

PS If you will check my posts, you will find I have never bashed San Jose. I've got nothing for it or agin it, as a matter of fact.

jason888 Oct 27th, 2003 04:18 PM

Great pics, Marilyn!

Kudos to Photographer Phil Flash! Is he part of the Borg? :)

Very, very sorry we missed your friendly gathering. It looked like you all had a great time!

Jason

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 04:30 PM

Phil Flash, aka Bob, is definitely part of the Borg. It has often been observed that he has a camera lens where his right eye should be. Next time, Jason!

Lake: Send meds. Will take if they are the right sort.

LN Oct 27th, 2003 04:35 PM

It's pretty good when people with such great travel ideas get together like this!!

We will have to get busy on the east coast (especially the DC area to find some travelers for our own GTG.

I enjoyed your planning and now the pics of the wonderful time you all had. Thanks for sharing the pictures!!

LN

cigalechanta Oct 27th, 2003 04:42 PM

Scarlett is a friend of mine. She is NOT Marilyn!!!!!!

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 04:48 PM

cigalechanta, dear, now YOU are part of US. Anyone who says anything will be accused of being me. (Now there's a sentence I could never have imagined writing!)

I keep telling you, Guano, there's only 2 of us here. You and me. Everybody else is me. Everyone, do you hear me? So be good or I'll kick you off MY board.

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 05:01 PM

Oh damn it am I in time for the medication hour? Where's the Ritalin when you need it??? ;-)

Great pictures, Marilyn! Looks like you all had a great time! I want some of the recipes!

LN, I will be in DC from Nov. 21 - 23 if that helps at all. Most likely will be staying at the Omni Shoreham.

Now since I seem to be sharing the one body of Marilyn, it's nice to know I am able to put a face and body to know what I look like! LOL ;;)

Can you tell I'm just done arguing with this nut making a fool of himself? I'm just waiting for the next round of deletions for him.... LOL

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 05:07 PM

missjanna, pull up the thread "Thanks Kir Royale and Marilyn" and you'll find quite a few of the recipes on there. Gee, maybe I should post them on worldisround along with the photos? No, I've got to pack for a week in New York, leaving Wed.

Actually, I've heard Manhattan is really overrated. I think I'll stay on Staten Island instead.

Scarlett Oct 27th, 2003 05:12 PM

Marilyn, I do not mind at all, being accused of being you. You, on the other hand, will have to cope with being me sometimes too!
And thank you darlin Mimi ((F))

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 05:14 PM

Oh lord, no Marilyn!! Not Staten Island!! LOL To tell you the truth there is maybe only 4 hotels in all of Staten Island. However, my brother's wedding was in Staten Island and there was actually this adorable B & B right across the street from the catering hall where we took some pictures. Was done in a victorian theme and was absolutely breathtaking. You would never think this place was at the end of Staten Island. I'll see if I can get the exact name if you're interested. I believe it's relatively new.

OK Marilyn, and if you're coming to NY you have to let me buy you lunch, or at the very least I can meet you before the Halloween parade. (I believe you said in a previous thread you were going.) Remember I will be the one dressed as a Hostess Cupcake....LOL ;;)

Scarlett Oct 27th, 2003 05:14 PM

Marilyn, this weekend is supposed to be warmish, in the 60's!
For Halloween, we will all dress up as one person LOL

obxgirl Oct 27th, 2003 05:19 PM

Love that concept! What will we be?

Surfergirl Oct 27th, 2003 05:19 PM

From So. Cal., have a great trip Marilyn! Hey Kir, we have the same Eiffel Towers in the same places (backyard and living room). (I also have a collection, one from each trip including the year 2000 Galleries Lafayettes special!).

Who has the recipe for the salmon appetisers? They looked yummy!

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 05:27 PM

sorry, marilyn aka me, aka whoever else is part of the "borg" today would never use profanity, am I right gang? or should I say other personalities? LMAOOOOO ;;)

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 05:28 PM

missjanna, I am only kidding about Staten Island.

Email me a way to contact you (what part of town are you in during the day?)and I'll give you a call when I'm in NY -- maybe we can meet up. My schedule is pretty full, but I just had a phone call from a friend who was going to be in town but had to cancel his trip due to illness in his family. So I have an "opening".

Halloween is still undecided. I know Phil Flash will want to go for the photo opps, but I'm not so big on huge street crowds. But I sure would like to see that Hostess Cupcake costume. If Phil gets a good shot of you, I can post it on the worldisround party site! (After all, you are one of Us.)

Scarlett, darlin', I'm so flattered to be accused of being you that I'm blushing. I could never be as sweet-natured. Thanks for the weather warning. In our annual race, the SF Bay to Breakers, which has been described as the best moving party in the world, they call that a "caterpillar", when a bunch of runners all dress in a theme and run together. It's a riot.

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 05:34 PM

alrighty chickee dee aka me LOL

I work in the flatiron district, oh halfway between Union Square and the Flatiron Building to be exact. So this is where I am during the day.
My email addresses are as follows:
[email protected] or the one I check more often,
[email protected].
I will be on the lookout for that email!!

easytraveler Oct 27th, 2003 05:55 PM

Hi, Marilyn! The pictures remind me of what a wonderful time we had! Thanks to your encouragement, I've registered and posted my first response on the Asia line!

Ah, the limoncello! THE LIMONCELLO!
Gracia tantissima, koshka!

Surfergirl: one mo' time, here's the recipe for the salmon hors d'oeuvres:

ENDIVE WITH SMOKED SALMON AND HERBED CREAM CHEESE

1 8-ounce package cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup minced fresh dill
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 teaspoon (packed) grated lemon peel

4 heads of Belgian endive (green and red, if available)
8 ounces smoked salmon

Mix first 4 ingredients in small bowl. Season with freshly ground black pepper. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover; chill. Bring to room temperature before using.)

Separate endive into leaves. Spread small amount of cheese mixture on base end of each leaf. Top with salmon piece; garnish with small dill spring. (Can be made 6 hours ahead. Cover; chill.)

The above recipe is from Bon Appetit, November 2003 issue, p. 166.

Their original recipe called for smoked trout, I substituted smoked wild salmon (Copper Creek, the best!).

Also for part of the mixture, I added some Chinese hot sauce (obtainable in bottles in many groceries stores, especially Asian ones). VERY HOT, so season according to taste.

The last change I made was to cut up the endive leaves and fill the entire shell with the mixture rather than just the tip end. Less "leafy" and made for a morsel just big enough to pop into one's mouth.

Final note: went very well with the excellent different white wines which was brought by some of the other Fodorites!

Kir Royale kindly allowed me to drop everything off beforehand and refrigerated the lot. Thus, the salmon appetizers can be made in the morning and refrigerated the rest of the day, not just for six hours.

Hope you can duplicate this recipe and enjoy the appetizers!

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 06:02 PM

OK Marilyn I think I did it. Let me know if this comes up....LOL
And you're right, it was easy!!!

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 06:06 PM

PS Fodors is picking up the pace!!!

Just noticed part of one of the strings he posted on was deleted (as well as my replies but I don't care, the main point was my advice is still there) and whoever cursed onhere earlier if you notice that posting is gone.

Go Fodors!!!

Now if only they can delete every single one of his posts, but with all the names he uses, that may take forever.....

Also please let me know if my somewhat travel photos come up on the link above
Thanks again gang! Next time we need a NYC GTG

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 06:20 PM

Gee, so do you, Treck, Guarto, Robinsen, Lake, Rob....LOL

Surfergirl Oct 27th, 2003 06:46 PM

Thanks, Easytraveler!

razzledazzle Oct 27th, 2003 06:59 PM

Hi Marilyn! Can we/us/everyone who is you go as 'the Borg'?
(or is it 'a Borg')?
I would love to go a 'seven of nine' but I would be closer to 'forty nine of eighty eight'.
Great Party pics!
We'll be there next time!
Have a safe trip to NYC!
R5

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 08:03 PM

I think it's "the" Borg since it is all one entity (just like us).

razzledazzle, LOL. I couldn't remember her name.

Clifton Oct 27th, 2003 08:15 PM

SJ guy.

You don't really think you're convincing anyone, do you? I've read like a couple of these threads and it took all of a second to figure out what's going on is that you've went from being a little insulted that people were slighting your hometown, to being a little beat up over it. And I get that. My hometown isn't all that much of a tourist town, but all in all, it's a nice place too. And it's not in California. I'm not really that big of a California fan, SF or SJ.

But you've let it get to you, right or wrong. And you're starting to mistreat people anonymously on an internet chat board for fun. That I can't imagine would be something that you'd be proud of. You're right in thinking that you should be able to give your opinion that San Jose is better than anywhere else, without being slammed. But that doesn't entitle you to randomly open threads and start picking on people. It's just not healthy and it really is making your original cause look worse, not better.

Take a breather. Have to courage to stand behind your beliefs despite opposition and without having to win. Much more admirable and much more effective if you truly want people to hear you.

missjanna Oct 27th, 2003 08:40 PM

Ignorance indeed...
I never bashed Los Angeles or San Diego especially since I am planning a trip there next year!!
How convenient that you decided to throw in San Jose. LOL
All you do is keep proving your immaturity level. I'm just waiting for the screen name change, but alas I am off to bed since it is 12:37 here in NYC.

Oh, and if you checked my travel pictures, and the pictures from the GTG, you can clearly see I look nothing like Marilyn, even though she is a lovely woman!!

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 08:58 PM

Clifton, that was a heartfelt yet reasoned post, and I deliberately did not say anything for fear of "tainting" your name. But I felt sure SJBoy would be impervious to your appeal -- and he did not disappoint me.

I believe I tried to reason with him long before I was elevated to the position of arch enemy and Leader of the Pack. But he is waaaay beyond reason, I'm afraid. It is pointless to attempt a dialog with him as is apparent from reading these threads.

And since he is on a bit of a rampage tonight, I think it's best to just ignore him until fodors takes him away (again). I am reminded of the old rhyme:

The other day upon the stair
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
I wish that man would go away.

lenleigh Oct 27th, 2003 08:59 PM

I haven't really been paying much attention to this whole thing so I wouldn't have the slightest clue as to which one of you has multiple personalities however I do have a question.

Robinsen, do you have absolutly nothing else to do with your evening than keep this crappy thread going? You have posted on the hour (more than a couple times an hour) from 7:31pm until 12:46AM with the exception of 11pm (I see you must have been busy then). Why not just ignore Marilyn's post? All this person did was post picts, IF it was his/her intent to pose as people(I have no idea), you certainly have given that person the attention they were hoping to gain.

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2003 09:03 PM

Ah, lenleigh, you will soon find yourself accused of just being another one of my names. Welcome to my world!

lenleigh Oct 27th, 2003 09:07 PM

Well I shouldn't because I don't think I have ever posted on any other posts as yourself and I have been on this site for awhile. Again, I am not siding with anyone here but I checked my email and looked on here earlier this evening and this thread only had about 7 posts, now it has close to 60 and for what?
