I do know the highway is Grissom-don't know how that Grisset got in there. Travel that highway very often. It certainly helps us.
We expect a big weekend down here in NMB. The firworks will be exploding!! No, I was not at the SF in Dec. Was trying hard at that time to get over a complete knee replacement. |
OWJ, how was the vacation? Give us the scoop, especially on the food! :-)
|
Hey Starrs!
Gimme a break, I'm still on vacation mode :) It was a GREAT little getaway! Accom-superb (THANK YOU i'2!!!!!!!!!!!), beach--wonderful....and meals yummy. One night we went, on your rec, to Islamorada Fish Co. The food was good but the service was mediocre. We had a fantastic dinner at Devine Fish House (thanks GoTravel). We just loved Murrell's Inlet and the drive wasn't too bad from NMB. It was fun to walk around after dinner, have a beer and listen to the live music at the many restaurants along the marsh. I also loved looking at the boats and fantasizing that one day one would be mine! We met up with beachdweller and Mrs. BD for happy hour at Liberty Tap Room on 17Bus. They are just the nicest, coolest people--we loved hanging out with them! (Hi guys!!) After we parted ways, OWJ2 and I headed over to B'way on the Beach, had dinner. Bway was waaay crowded. I think it would be fun to go back when it is a little calmer. We were in mellow moods and were not in the mood to deal w/so many people and after dinner we headed back to the beach house. It was a fantabulous little getaway. I can't tell you how much we needed that! It really recharged my batteries--that said, the lazy, beach-loving girl that I am wants to back soon!! OWJ |
How wonderful! Glad you had a good time!
(Plan on returning for the oyster roast in September!) |
Hi GoT!
How was BVI?? Come back in Sept??? Ok, if you twist my arm :D OWJ |
They were completely fabulous!
Not only that, the groom gave me his house for the week of Christmas! AND, he gave our good friends his 48 foot catamaran his boat that week! Woopee! Life is good! Did y'all stay for the fourth and see the fireworks? I just love Wahoos (the outside bar at Divine's) and the marshwalk. |
Welcome home OWJ. I am so glad you two had a wonderful time. You have been in my thoughts. I hope you can just kick back for the rest of the week and keep that relaxed feeling!!
|
OWJ....the real icee did a real guffaw when I told him about the tarantula you saw!!
When is the September oyster roast? And, if you all get a chance to go to the other place - for a good read, go to the US forum and read beachdweller's(lets cool one) account of Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. It is fabulous and will make anyone want to go down to Myrtle and unwind. OWJ, welcome home! My friend ran her 20th consecutive Peachtree Road Race in 80 mins and 56 secs. I am so proud of her. |
OWJ AND OWJ2,
Sorry you had to leave--isn't it fun down here at the beach? It was so great meeting both of you Sunday night. (Here's the scoop: the OWJs, my better half, and me met at Liberty Taproom for a few drinks. They are really cool people, as all fodorites I've met are. We had some things in common, like teaching, love of travel--duh, and ended up having a great conversation. And a few cold ones!) As for the September MB Oyster Roast, it's probably going to be another MB GTG. We're still in the planning stages--no committee chair has been appointed, but GoTravel is the master oyster chef. Everyone is welcome, details to follow later. One possibility Mrs. Beach Dweller mentioned to me is to make it the same day as the Liberty/Broadway Oyster Festival (at Broadway at the Beach), usually first weekend in November. They roast oysters, serve Liberty (local brewed) beers, have live music--it's pretty cool, but November is a ways off. Maybe we should do both a September and a November oyster GTG. Not that I am looking for another excuse to party ;-) |
That is the weekend of the NYC Marathon so you would have to count me out!
I would leave my expert oyster roasting instructions and skills with icee whom has already had success with my formula! LOL! |
The weekend of September 16th looks good right now for us to fly down. The Mrs. doesn't do oysters or drink beer, so there's my designated driver. :-) ((b))
|
Well I do both to excess so there ya go!
:-D |
Budman and GoTravel,
just save some beer for me! September 16 sounds like a winner to me. Perhaps we should think of penciling in that date. Anyone else tuned in think that weekend sounds good? And we should probably start a new GTG thread once we're done hijacking OWJ's original post ;-) |
Well, I for one, vote a BIG FAT NO on a GTG and oyster roast on the SC coast on a weekend when GoT can't be there.
Otherwise, count me in. I'll "work" my way on over. |
Oops, as it turns out, that won't be a good date for us. ((b))
|
Y'all do it when it is convenient for the majority. If we can make it, we danged sure will and if we can't you need to take lots and lots and lots of photos!
((8))((8))MYRTLE BEACH DAYS((8))((8)) |
Topping because the 4 OWJs are going back! Yaaay!
When I posted this 2yrs ago, we were a couple who desperately wanted to be parents. A little less than 3 months after we got back from NMB, our dream came true through the miracle of adoption. We are really looking forward to going back with our 2.5 yr old daughters. (Icee2--we will email ya with some dates!) |
I haven't read the posts, but GO SOUTH. Calabash is a shell of its former glory as a place for good food--and we have eaten there in the last few months.
Go to Murrell's Inlet. Creek Ratz is fun and the food is good. Actually SaraJ's at the Garden City causeway is a bit closer and good and the Conch Cafe ON the waterfront in Garden City is good--and great to eat on the water. Inlet Crab Restaurant in Murrell's Inlet. |
Bon Voyage, OWJ! It will be a new experience to see the familiar place through the eyes of your daughters. We need a Fodor's Junior forum :))
|
Hey, OWJ.......you think maybe it was 3 years ago since those baby girls are already 2 1/2???? Time flies!
