oregon coast. specific questions...

1) where is ft.stevens state park? 2) at astoria, should we side-trip up the columbia river for any length? (we will have visited the columbia river gorge east of portland on our way north from california) 3) where is shortsands beach? 4) where is strawberry hill? 5) where is cascade head?

Ft. Steves is right on coast, just west of Astoria.

If you have already been to the Gorge on your trip, I would focus on the coast once in Astoria, there is a lot to see in and around Astoria, such as the Maritime Museum and the Lewis and Clark related exhibits and parks, like Fort Clatsop.

Shortsands beach is in California.

Strawberry hills is in Central Park

Cascade Head is in the Cascades.

Have you ever heard of Google search? These can easily be found there.

rather than going up the river at astoria, i'd go across the river to the long beach peninsula for more great views, lighthouses and lewis and clark info at cape disappointment state park.

Just returned from the Oregon Coast so I knew these sites were actually in Oregon, but had to Google to get exact locations: you could have done the same.

Fort Stevens is near Astoria.
Shortsands Beach is part of Oswald West State Park, south of Cannon Beach.
Strawberry Hills is just south of Yachats.
Cascade Head is near Lincoln City.

If you are an AAA member, they have an excellent map of the Oregon and Washington coasts that really helped us in locating specific viewpoints.

Where's "google"?

Sorry, just kidding! Too early in the morning...

Azzure has it right on all counts, but to be more specific, Cascade Head is north of Lincoln City... about six miles. The view south from the Head is one of my favorites on the Oregon coast. And I agree with NWW's recommendation to visit Cape Disappointment State Park. Best of any view of the mouth of the Columbia from the park's Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center.

LittleA - Do you live in Oregon?

The south side of the river between Astoria and the Longview Bridge is pretty boring. Go over the bridge to the Washington side as passerbye suggests.

I am a native Oregonian passerbye.

I just noticed multiple posts from bodhijack with some suspicious questions, such as "we are vegetarians, which means we eat everything except red meat, chicken, and fish..........

I suspect they are bod"hijacking" this area of the forum.

haaaaaaaaa!!! many times when we tell people that we are vegetarian, the reply is, "do you eat chicken? fish? " duh!

Fort Stevens State Park in Warrenton,Short Sands Beach is in Oswald West State Park, just a few minutes south of Cannon Beach, Oregon. I am in Seaside, about 20 minutes away from
Astoria. ***kim*** ((#))
