One day trip to Philadelphia with Senior Citizens

I want to take my 81 year old mom and her sister to Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell, can anyone suggest any other interesting sights in the surrounding area to include in our trip?

Constitution Center is very interesting and across the street. Across town is the Rodin Museum, small good collection of Rodin, the largest outside of Paris. And of course there is the Barnes Foundation, a small outstanding collection of impressionist and african art.

Within a couple of blocks you can visit Carpenter's Hall (site of the First Continental Congress, a lovely building--check for time, though); the Todd and Bishop White houses; the portrait gallery at the Second Bank; the unique Liberty Museum with its Dale Chihuly glass; Franklin Court; the afore-mentioned Constitution Center, and, of course, Independence Hall (with its adjoining Congress Hall.) You'll need a timed ticket for that, though.

Start at the Visitors' Center, at 5th and Market; you can get maps, itineraries, and the timed tix there, although you may be more comfortable ordering them ahead of time online.

A bit further afield--less than a mile--there's the Reading Terminal Market; there are buses and/or trains and/or the Phlash tourist bus that will take you all over, but I thought perhaps you might want to focus on a smaller area.

The horse and carriage rides might be a nice option to get your bearings in the neighborhood and see some sites.

Here's a thread or two to click on for more ideas:

LoJa:

Thanks for asking this question as I'd like to see the Liberty Bell.

City Tavern might be a nice stop for lunch, too.
