In the NY Times of 9/15 is an interview with the author of Burn This, Lanford Wilson. I recommend reading it -- very interesting. You can still get it free this week on the web.

I'm so glad many of you are interested in seeing Burn This.Please please post your opinion when you return.<BR><BR>By the way, three shows isnt too many... I saw five in June while i was there and six in August!! I'm a NYC theater junky!!!<BR><BR>I am soooo jealous I would love to see Burn this again but as I have mad two trips there in three months, husband will kill me if I even mention it!! I guesss I'll just live vicariously thru all of you!!!<BR><BR>I would also recommend Rent, The Goat(although it is a bit controversial),Thouroughlly Modern Millie,Aida, The Producers<BR><BR>I did not care for Into the Woods or Chicago. Don't get me wrong, they were entertaining, just not top notch in my opininon. I guess I just didnt care much for the story lines.<BR><BR>Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

This morning's NY Times gave Burn This a highly favorable review. So, if you want see the limited-run show, you better get tickets now.

Jim, I saw it many years ago, I think it was 1989, and John Malkovich was starring in it. It is a great play! Funny, smart, moving, it's a wonderful evening at the theater. Unless the cast is a letdown you're going to really enjoy this show.

There are a couple of other great plays out there as well for the true theater junkie. Our Lady of 121st Street (off-off) $15. Superb acting. Passionate & draining. Limited run has been extended and has been a sell out. Very hard ticket to get, but maybe not impossible. Also, The World Over at the Duke Theater, a Roundabout Production. Also limited run & still in previews. Excellent. By the same writer who did Credeaux (sp?) Canvas last year--the story of the sculptor Cellini. Also excellent.

Oh, and one more. Take Me Out is in a limited run at the Public Theater Off-Broadway. The tickets are about $40. It will be moving to Broadway soon to the Booth Theater (recently vacated by I'm Not Rappaport). Then the tickets will be double the price. Got great reviews, obviously, since it is moving to Broadway.

Anyone seen Menopause? Heard it's good.

I am arriving in november when burn this is supposed to be finished - any suggestions where to watch to see if it moves to a new theater and extends the run a bit? I see a new play is opening at that one right away.

Reporting on Burn This, which I saw last week. I saw it at the Wednesday matinee and I'd seen Frankie & Johnny at the Claire de Lune the night before. That was unfortunate because Burn This suffered by comparison. There were similarities in the plot and themes. Although the NY Times gave Burn This a great review, Variety did not. Alas, I tend to side with the latter view. It was of course a treat to see Ed Norton act and the performances were good, although I was not so pleased with Catherine Keener's portrayal. The play could have used some tightening up and the pacing wasn't quite right, I kept thinking. I saw five plays last week, and this was the only one that wasn't just A plus caliber. It's still enjoyable but not as good as I'd been expecting.

Saw Burn This on Thurs. night. This play started at 8:05, had one 15 min.<BR>intermission & ran until 11:10. Yes, 11:10. It was a tough sit for the last 1/2 hr. However, it was quite worth it. We have the Q & A series, so we stayed afterward for cast/writer discussion. Lanford Wilson is a character--funny, says whatever is on his mind, a total delight. I think it made the play more enjoyable after we delved into his mind a bit. Ed Norton did say that the performance has changed tremendously over the last 3 wks & evolved more than he could have imagined. He referred to one scene that a few nights ago he and Kathryn finally got right (or felt right to him) - 3 weeks into the run. Apparently, they had a shorter than usual rehearsal period and a longer preview. Looking forward to the next 3 Wilson plays of the season!
