I've been doing some searching for our Sept. trip (during which we will spend 3 days solely in lower Manhattan) and I see that there is a LES Visitor Center. They have a good map guide to LES galleries online. And they have a free downloadable Podcast tour of the LES which looks very cool. Also pages on shopping, eating , nightlife, events, exploring. Nice site.

For anyone going to NYC, I recommend this site below. I like it because they split up the site by neighborhoods, including coverage of the LES and E. Village, Downtown, Soho and W. Village, Soho and Grammercy, etc. They cover events, news, dining, pretty much everything. I get it delivered to my inbox each day, and when I am going to NYC, I use it extensively for events happening while I'm going to be there, etc.

emd, have you seen the movie "Crossing Delancey"? You may enjoy seeing it before you spend three days in the area. Two years ago (almost to the day) ellenem walked me around the area and we visited shops and the neighborhood. It was a great day. Alas, the pickle shop was closed.
I loved going in Russ and Daughters (on your website) - we only bought chocolate covered apricot slices. Not listed on your website = Economy Candy (amazing) and The Doughnut Plant (the doughnuts are worth the wait in the line) If you haven't been yet, be sure to go to the Lower East Side Tenement Museusm - http://www.tenement.org/ |
