NYC Monet at Wildenstein Gallery
 

If you are in NYC from now until June 15th your might want to make time for the exhibit Claude Monet: A Tribute to Daniel Wildenstein and Katia Granoff” at Wildenstein & Company, 19 East 64th Street, admission is $10, $5 students. There are over sixty Monet paintings from public and private collections, some rarely seen. There are no advance ticket sales, and I believe the gallery is limiting occupancy to about 150 at a time.

Unfortunately, no! I have seen some of the paintings that are on exhibit, like the works on loan from the Musée Marmottan in Paris, but some of the others are rarely seen and I would love to have the opportunity to view them! Right now I don't plan to be back in NYC until late June but . . . . this is tempting!

Thanks for the heads up, but you left out one important detail. That $5 admission is for seniors as well as students. People like me of a "certain age" here will appreciate that.

The show is awesome! It's not large-about 60 paintings in 3 galleries, but oh boy, oh boy, can that man paint. I'm not a huge Monet fan (I like him, don't love him) but there are some really amazing works in the show. He does snow scenes so well and there is a real beauty here. There are 2 haystack paintings and 1 of the cathedral at Rouen.

They allow a certain number of people into the building at a time, and once you're inside they may hold you back from a particular gallery if it gets too crowded. I didn't wait too long to get in (less than 5 mins.) This is definitely a show not to be missed.

Thank you so much for posting this information! I was able to see it on Friday and it was one of the highlights of my trip. I made it just before they closed ( I had to run from the subway stop!!)so the line was relatively short. I am a big fan of Monet and this was the chance of a lifetime for me.

We went this morning. It is an outstanding collection of Monet's!

We arrived about 9:50 about 10 minutes before they opened and there was one other person in line. We almost had the gallery to ourselves for the half hour we were there. The doorman said it is usually like that during the week in the mornings before 11. "Weekends are a zoo", he said.

Good exhibit, not great. Most are not museum quality, but the Wilderstein Galleries are beautiful & the admission goes to a good cause.

Jenack, What do you mean, most are not museum quality? I can't imagine what a non-museum quality Monet would look like. Please explain.

We plan on going when we're in NYC the first part of June. And as Patrick mentioned, plan on getting there as early as possible on a weekday.

I'm curious too what that means -- museum quality, especially since nearly half of them are from museums. And many from private collections most museums would "beg" for.

Wow Jenack! I realize that you don't have to love a painting just because it is a Monet, but "most are not museum quality" ??

I guess I would be interested in which ones you thought were not worthy and why you judged them inadequate.

Wow, you people are really combative. If you compare the works at the Gallery with those at the Met, MOMA, D'Orsay, they are inferior. Sorry folks, that's my opinion & I'm sticking with it. Go argue with someone who enjoys a fight.

MOMA? Are you kidding? Last I knew there were only four or five Monets at MOMA, none of which are considered major works, and ironically I believe one of those is a study of the Japanese Bridge which led the way to one of the several later "definitive" paintings of the bridge in similar style which are on display at the Wildenstein.
