Congratulations joverbay! So exciting!!

To answer your travel time question, it should take about 30 min, no more than 45, to get from Rock Center to River Cafe. It's a pretty straight shot down the FDR and across the bridge.

I have my fingers crossed that the weather clears out for you! Good luck!

congratulations joverbay, and good luck. Whatever happens, she will remember it forever. If she thinks something is up when she sees the limo, just tell her you miss her so much and wanted to make her birthday special. I agree do it early in the evening so you can relax...you will be nervous all the way up to the big moment.

She said yes!!

Thursday night was a wondeful night. I picked her up at her apartment around 8 with a limo from Carmel and roses (I was very disappointed with Carmel but I think it was more of the driver than the service). We went to Top of the Rock where I proposed during an absolutely gorgeous sunset. The professional photographers on top started snapping away when I got down on one knee so we came away with some wondeful pictures we wouldn't have had otherwise. From there, we went to The River Cafe in Brooklyn. The driver assured us it would only take 15 minutes although folks on here had told me it would take 30. It ended up taking 30 to get into Brooklyn and then the driver couldn't find the restaurant. I ended up having to show him where it was. We were late for our reservation and therefore didn't get a window table but the restaurant was still fantastic! It was the most romantic spot for an engagement dinner that I could have dreamed of. My fiance and I both loved it and had a wonderful night!

Saturday night we went to 230 Fifth for drinks on her birthday. It's a great place and we had no trouble getting in around 1am. It was packed and drinks were ridiculously expensive (3 drinks were $50) but we had a great time.

My fiance's parents ended up flying up to surprise her on Friday. We spend part of Friday and Saturday celebrating with them which was a great time.

Thanks again to everyone on the boards for your help!!

WTG!! Don't you just love it when people post follow up reports? ;-)

starrsville Jul 10th, 2006 10:51 AM

Why, emd, look what you can do - and without needing half of a thread to practice! :-)

Hi,That's all very romantic! I don't like the horse and carriage rides though, it's not as nice as you might think, it looks pretty but the reality is a bit different. All of the other places you mention sound dreamy. A friend of mine had her proposal photographed. She was totally surprised and it was caught on film It was a private NY tour where the tour guide is also a photographer. I forget the name, but you can find it on the web. I think it's phototrek. Strawberry Fields in Central Park on a picnic is also a great idea.!
