We spent a week in NYC at Christmas 2004. We had a wonderful time - loved seeing all the lights, store windows, decorated trees, carriage ride in Central Park, the Rockettes, etc., etc. We, too, were determined to eat at Tavern on the Green, in spite of all the bad press. Can't say we were glad we did. We were told what to expect - and were not disappointed in that respect. The food was okay, but the service was pretty terrible. The main thing we enjoyed were the decorations and watching families celebrate Christmas.
Our best meals were at the River Cate - Sunday brunch - wonderful food and fabulous service. Worth every dime!
And at the Rock Cafe watching the skaters at Rockefeller Center. Had a very good meal with great service and enjoyed the free entertainment.
We had a wonderful week and would love to go again at Christmas. It's a great time to be in the City!
