"North Shore" premier

A new series on the Fox network (ch.5 on the east coast mainland) debuted last night.:S-

So far it is more along the lines of a soap opera featuring a fictional hotel "Grand Waimea", nonetheless, inspiring glimpses of Hawaii's beauty managed to keep us tuned for the full ((o)).

John:

Agreed; they could spring for some
much better writers. If one can stand the "plot"
at least one gets Hawaii and surfing coverage.

I enjoyed the scenery also, it was so wonderful to see some of the spots that I was visting only couple of weeks ago.

Have to agree though, the plot is a dud so far, maybe it will get better. As long as there is nothing better to watch, I'll keep tuned for the scenery((r))

They were filming some of that at Turtle Bay when we were there in March. I can't believe I missed it!

bonniebroad Jun 17th, 2004 04:44 AM

I watched it purely for the scenery, and wasn't disappointed. It's amazing what I'll sit through to see beautiful Hawaii!:-) Maybe the writing will improve.......

There's also a new show coming up on NBC called "Hawaii". It's a detective show and I think it's supposed to be on Wednesday nights.

had to laugh ar some of the scenery though...they are supposedly on the north shore, but some views from the hotel were of the West shore and others of windward side!

gyppielou Jun 17th, 2004 05:06 PM

Hated it! Ok, mediocre writing and some major misses, but some hits on casting. Just a little too Baywatch/70's fantasy island for me.

Is the name really "North Shore", or is it called "LOST", another TV series we saw being filmed on the north shore O'ahu in March. :-?

bonniebroad Jun 17th, 2004 05:27 PM

It is "North Shore." I read that the series was partly filmed at Turtle Bay, also at Ihilani Resort, and that there was filming done in other areas of the island. The real sharp eyes that know Hawaii well will enjoy picking out what ISN'T really the north shore!

Such a bummer! After the OC, was hoping to have some good summer entertainment (I love this kind of crap)-but OMG, it was HORRIBLE.

rkkwan Jun 17th, 2004 07:48 PM

"Lost" is a different program.

The state of Hawaii is trying hard to bring a lot of TV/film production to the state, mainly to promote tourism. They are giving tax breaks of incentives for such production, as long as they don't specifically says the location is SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN Hawaii (for example, the Congo scenes in last season's ER, according to the Wall Street Journal).

While visiting Maui, a local newscast announced that the "North Shore" series was canceled citing excessive production costs, leaving the "Lost" series the last series still in((~)) production in Hawaii.
Aloha.

With the huge, growing police procedural series like "CSI" and "Law and Order," I'm surprised there's no movement to revive "Hawaii 5-0."

MaiTaiMary Mar 17th, 2005 06:57 PM

Any idea where the beach shots are filmed? :) I don't think it's the Turtle Bay beach.

JohnD Mar 18th, 2005 03:43 AM

The beach ((D))bar scenes ((~)) @ Ko`Olina:
