Joe - that is what I was afraid of.
I am trying to avoid renting a car period - My trip right now is NYC Oct 7 - 10 Oct 10 - Oct 12 NJ with family Oct 13 - Family driving me to Philly Oct 15 - ? Oct 16 train to DC and pick up car Oct 16 - 17 - friend in Richmond - explore Williamsburg Oct 18 - return car in DC and stay til Oct 22 Anyway - I would love to see my dh's Aunt - she and I are very close so perhaps I should again look into renting a car in the city and returning it in Philly - driving myself. seems like a lot of work to go to Staten Island, take the transportation back to Time Square and then to Newark down to WHS. My dd has some mobility issues with a recent foot surgery. I might be able to get a relative to pick us up at the Staten Island Ferry and take us to his Aunt. Thanks as always. Whoever said NY'er are not friendly and helpful has never seen the awesome advice I get here!! :-) |
I think the biggest issue is that you are trying to combine your visit to Staten Island with your trip to New Jersey.
If you really want to see your aunt, why not go see her one evening during your stay in NYC? Take a late afternoon ferry to SI, visit your aunt, return to your Manhattan hotel that evening. I realize you don't want to take time away from your NYC visit, but it sounds like you're concerned that you may not have the opportunity to see your aunt again. Weighing the options . . . an evening in NYC versus seeing aunt for perhaps the last time . . . you decide which is more important to you. |
Or you could make it an early morning excursion, a "reverse commute" when most workers are heading to Manhattan.

ellen - that is the best idea yet. DUH!!
We have show tickets for Thursday evening so I believe I will get up Thursday and head over. Thank you for bringing it up! |
. . . can't see the forest for the trees . . . Sometimes the obvious solution is the most difficult to see. Glad to help.
