New York City Advice wanted

A friend and I and our daughters, they are in their mid twenties are coming to New York for 5 days in April to sightsee and shop. We have tickets for opera at the Met and for Wicked and also plan on seeing the Natural History Museum, MOMA and the Frick collection.
I would like some suggestions for other must do things and good places to shop for clothes,(Plus size), quilting things and kitchen bits and pieces.
Also for good places to eat near the Met and the Gershwin theatre and maybe post theatre desert as well.
Where would be the best place to buy make up?

It would help to know where you're from. If you're American, some places may be familiar. If you're not, might be more interesting.

Other must dos:

>foodsofny.com walking/eating tours are great fun and you get to see a neighborhood like the village or the meatpacking district.

>Top of the Rock
>walk the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan
>tour of Radio City or backstage theater tour?

Plus size clothes
>Syms is a discount store (2 locations, 1 in midtown is 54 st. b/w Madison & Park) and they have a pretty good selection of large sizes.

>other discount stores like Filene's, TJ Maxx, Daffy's may have some things

>all the major dept. stores (Saks, Lord & Taylor, Macy's) have plus sizes. Macy's and L & T offers 11% discount if you register at customer service with proof you're visiting before you shop.

>Avenue and Lane Bryant are national chains for plus sizes.

Kitchen stuff

>Bridge kitchenware
>Williams Sonoma
>Broadway Panhandler
>Crate & Barrel

Make up
>Sephora (they do free makeovers)
>all the dept. stores (Bergdorf Goodman, Bendel's and Barney's have the high end stuff)
>if you're coming from outside the country, some people report good deals at duty free at JFK, esp. on Clinique and Estee Lauder

dining

look on menupages.com

near the Met
>Cafe Fiorello
>Josephina
>Vince & Eddie's
>Cafe Luxembourg
>La Boite en Bois
>O'Neal's

near Wicked
>ViceVersa
>Maria Pia
>Thalia
>Bobby Van's steakhouse
>Bar Americain
>Roberto Passon

For quilting,

For Kitchenware
The best places are
Bridge Cookware. There is an incredible assortment. A wall of knives and for instance they have 5 or 6 melon ballers. It is stark and for the serious amateur and the professional.

Broadway Panhandler now on 8th street just off Broadway is family owned and for the serious amateur. There are trinkets and silly gadgets and high quality wares.

Upstairs at Zabars-excellent selection at excellent prices. the irony is downstairs there are so many wonderful things to eat that are already prepared.

We are actually coming from the UK, although I lived in New York for a year a long time ago just after university. all the rest are making a first visit. We really want to do and see everything but realise that we will not have enough time!
I could easily I think do a two or three week itinerary but four or five days is more difficult!

For those that have not been here before, consider sending them on nypartyshuttle.com the first day. They could even do the 3 1/2 hr. night tour and get a good overview.
