New York at Christmas
I'm travelling to NYC in December. Can anyone tell me if the horse drawn carriages around Central Park operate at this time of year?
Really appreciate your help. |
They sure do. And their business is very brisk on weekends around Christmas!

damn stinky horsedrawn carraiges with their plastic flowers..........

gyppielou,
Am I to take it you're not a fan? ;-) |
They can't be that bad!!! Surely it's a good option for a "special" moment...
By the way, "special" would be more along the lines of diamonds as opposed to b.j.'S!!!! |
The only time they don't operate is if the tempurature exceeds 90 degrees F.
I imagine they go inside for blizzards also. Don't worry, if it is cold outside, they'll give you a lovely, clean rug to lay on your lap. Start sniffing around 58th Street. |
Don't count on that clean rug! We took my son 2 years ago and the blanket that they gave us smelled so BAD. We figured it was stored in the same stable with all the horses (and not laundered frequently).

karens, I was being sarcstic. The rugs are quite nasty.

bermyguy - If horse-drawn carriages through city streets fall into the "special" category for you and your special someone, then this should be fine. It may be very, very, very cold, though. Walking through NY streets in December can be cold, but manageable. Sitting still is another story entirely! And not everyone finds the idea romantic - my husband and I took a ride one December because his aunt and uncle insisted on it, and paid for it. It was cheesy, and not terribly exciting. There are plenty of more uniquely New York, and more private, "special" opportunities if you go looking for them, but it's up to you to decide what's best for your particular situation. :)
