New Jersey Vacation

Thinking about taking a short trip down the coast to New Jersey. Is Atlantic City or Cape May a nice place to go for a week? Are these nice clean quiet places. If not, where should I go in Jersey?

Clark Jul 24th, 2002 01:50 PM

Isn't the phrase "New Jersey-Vacation" an oxymoron?

xxx Jul 24th, 2002 02:41 PM

cape may, yes.
atlantic city, no.

dale Jul 24th, 2002 02:42 PM

Robert: skip atlantic city, but cape may is a lovely, quaint town with a nice beach and boardwalk. Other nice shore towns are Margate, Ventnor, Ocean City, Wildwood Crest and Long Beach Island.

Clark: you're the moron. Get a clue.

jane Jul 24th, 2002 03:09 PM

If I were you I would skip Atlantic city.

NJ Jul 24th, 2002 04:21 PM

I was going to use the same response as Clark. Both locations are dumps.

Is someone forcing you to spend your vacation in Jersey? if not, I can't imagine why you would even consider it.

micky Jul 26th, 2002 01:38 PM

Robert: Ignore the trolls and come to Jersey. For those in the know, it's a great place to vacation.

go Jul 26th, 2002 02:12 PM

Only someone named Mickey would think NJ is a step up as a vacation destination.

Robert, you said a short trip down the coast. Where are you coming from? If it's north of Jersey, there are any number of superior vacation destinations to choose from. The Jersey shore is by far the worst choice on the East coast. And yes, I've been there. I imagine those who think it's nice have never been anywhere else.

if new jersey is so bad for vacations how come tourism is second only to pharmacuticals for state revenue? last year tourism brought in over 31 billion dollars in profit for the state. obviously someone goes there!

yikes Jul 26th, 2002 02:22 PM

Good God we've been invaded by a troupe of anti-Jersey Fodorks!

the Jul 26th, 2002 02:24 PM

Yeah, the poor shmucks who live there and don't know any better.

To answer Robert's question. No, Atlantic City is not nice, not clean and not quiet. It looks decrepit, full of seedy looking people and like a slum on the outskirts. It's HORRIBLE.

LOL Jul 26th, 2002 03:33 PM

It if outskirts are so disgusting, why was my last tax assessment in Atlantic County over $475,000 for a 1/2 acre property?
Its Jul 26th, 2002 03:43 PM

Was that with or without a house?

Atlantic City is a dump. There is no denying it, unless of course you are blind. And let's not forget the crowd it attracts, the polyester, white trash hordes bussed in to feed the slot machines. Oh yeah, it's a beautiful spot...

LOL Jul 26th, 2002 03:47 PM

That assessment is with a house. 3,000 square feet. 1/2 acre property. 4 BRs, 3 BAs. In Linwood.
xxx Jul 26th, 2002 04:19 PM

Who cares how much your assessment was? That is kind of sad that you are posting it on a public board.

I am leagaly blind and yes Atlantic City is ugly.. Im from CT. two days ago I visited my famaly around west new youk. and when I got there I tried washing my face. sudanly my eyes started burning for 5 minuts. then I tried taking a sip of the water and my cousn yelled out STOP don't drink the water.. I've been too third world couutries where the water was cleaner

For those that might know which beaches were closed down yesterday 07/23/03...

ROBERT don't mind the jersey haters just go and see if you join the club after you come back. Bob,
I live in South Jersey, and I would recommend Cape May. There are some very nice bed and breakfasts and alot to do in the town besides go on the beach. Tons of shopping, usually craft shows, lots of restaurants, all victorian houses. Atlantic City is a good day trip from Cape May, maybe an hour and a half away, just to check out the casinos. There are also nice restaurants and alot of good shows in the summer in Atlantic City. Yeah, the surrounding town and beach is not beautiful, but it worth the trip just to see what is there.
By the way, I have been to alot of beaches including some in Hawaii, the Carribean and the French Riveria, and you might laugh, but I like the Jersey shore. There's always something going on, the sand is soft, and the water is not too cold (in July and August, anyway)and it's fun.

Check the internet -- the Atlantic City area has been awarded the best water award (drinking) for the last 4 or 5 years.
Stephanie Jul 27th, 2002 09:48 AM

Why, why, why does NJ always get so much flack? It's actually a very nice state with some nice beaches. Go to Ocean City or Cape May.

Probably because the people who defend it tend to be quite nasty about it. Don't care for New Jersey one way or the other but some of the posters I could do without.
