Had a great time in Sag Harbor despite the gloomy and very cold and windy weather. Baron's Cove was OK (and it ends up that's the place we stayed 20-25 years ago. We went into the American Hotel to see about booking dinner, but frankly the mildew and musty smell was overpowering and we decided it was not a place we'd want to eat.
We "enjoyed" the play, but maybe not as much as mclaurie did -- I guess I wasn't sure where the play was going or where it ended up, but the performances were excellent. We did hamburgers at the Corner Bar afterwards, pretty much the only thing in town open.

Thursday we had lunch at Gosman's in Montauk -- never saw Cyrils. Then drove to and all around Shelter Island, even finding the "hidden" Sunset Beach which was totally closed. We learned that nothing much happens in the whole are except weekends in June. Had a wonderful dinner at World Pie in Bridgehampton on Thursday night.

Yesterday (Friday) we drove to the Theodore Roosevelt home on Oyster Bay, Sagamore Hill and also the gardens and house at Old Westbury. We checked into the Courtyard Marriott at JFK about 5 then foolishly spent almost an hour in traffic to go about 10 miles to Freeport to an area called "the nautical mile" -- about a hundred shops and restaurants, and had a nice dinner at Schooner, before heading back to JFK and checking in the car.
By the way, our room at Courtyard at JFK was VERY nice, newly done, and they have fantastic new beds -- super comfortable, and rain showers in the bathrooms. I was very impressed with the place for an airport hotel, and their shuttle service was great in picking us up yesterday at the rental car return and bringing us to JFK this morning.

I'm sitting in the Admiral's Club now at JFK, we arrived our 2 hours before flight for about a 2 minute check-in and a 3 minute security line. So had nearly the full 2 hours before our flight to London this morning.

I'd say we agree on the play. We too enjoyed it, great performances and yes, it doesn't particularly go anywhere but I was happy to be along for the ride.

Perhaps you didn't see Cyril's because it was closed. As you say, during the week in June, many places are. It's actually at the end of Amagansett.

But sounds like you had a wonderful end to your NYC visit. Happy trails and safe travel.

Tryed posting from a London Easy-Internet place a few weeks ago, but Fodor's wouldn't take it. . .trying from Gatwick now -- on our way to Rome today.
With no laptop, you'll need to wait a while for my London reports, but suffice it to say that if we hadn't been inside theatres most of the time, we probably would have drowned by now from all the rain.

Enjoy Rome then. Hope it is warm and sunny.

Patrick ~ I've been helping someone set up online listings for their Manhattan vaction apartments, and am curious what agency, if any, represented the apartment you rented during your month.

Tom, no agency. I found this place by googling and it was listed on some small site, but strictly done through the "owner". I later found out it isn't a condo, but rather a rental apartment, and he was clearly sub leasing illegally. This is not unusual in Manhattan, but can be very uncomfortable. In fact, I'm not sure, but I think he may have since lost his lease on the apartment.

For what it's worth, the apartment was almost identical to one I've rented twice before -- again an individual, but this time an actual owner.

The funniest thing is that these two apartments are only 1 block away from each other and both share the same apartment number (letter) both on the 31 st. floor. How bizarre is that.
