I have stopped writing TR's. Some people have a hard time with honest appraisals and lack of minutiae.
As far as someone writing about their sexual preference in the broadest of terms, big deal. He was neither graphic or salacious, simply requesting information. I would imagine that 90% of the people who post here are middle-aged or older straight white Christians with about 75% living in the burbs. A little diversity should be welcomed. |

At least 35%-40% of the Fodorites I've met in person (and I've meet over 100) don't fit that description. |
Thanks "rjasnumberonefan" for explaining what seems obvious (but I see it is not)...
Even though I have been to several all over the world, I am not looking for a "bathhouse" this time. Juts a place where guys lie, walk and dip into the pool naked. Being naked with other naked guys in a safe & quiet environment is great, you feel free of prejudices and see people as they really are. Sorry if this issue seems awkward to some of you! That was not my intention. |
Janis
Broadly how would you describe that 35-40%. No names please. |
Carlos please note that purpose of these of these boards for some is to be contrary. A compliment was posted a few weeks ago and there were some who had trouble with that compliment. I am sure a few people were uncomfortable, but for others, it was their natural state.

IMDonehere: We really are a more divers group than you may think.
Of all the Fodorites I've met at GTGs and one-on-ones . . . Many are younger than middle aged, several have been gay, maybe 15% weren't 'white', and only maybe 25% -30% have been suburbanites. |
"bath house", lol. Look at the source of that term in this thread and draw your own conclusions. Carlos, you have nothing to be sorry about.

<There might have been another like-minded reader that could help, but my guess is they would fear ridicule and decide to keep quiet>
There are many gay people on this forum. I'm just thinking none with particular experience in the gay scene in Palm Springs particular to bear culture and nudist resorts. Some readers were not familiar with the term "bear" I don't think there was anything wrong with explaining what was being asked about. |
My gay bear friends are old so they hibernate a lot.

Your welcome CarlosAn. Live and learn every day. While I knew the town is known for being gay friendly, I learned that Palm Springs is well known for its clothing-optional resorts. It has more than 30 of them. Straight, couples, gay and lesbian alike.
Given your criteria list, I found this one sounds promising. http://www.escapepalmsprings.com "Our clientele includes singles and couples of all ages. We cater to guests who prefer a more laid back environment without the party circuit feel that some resorts promote. We make it easy for you to meet other guests in a relaxed, friendly, attitude free atmosphere. Clothing is optional throughout the resort - feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable or let it all hang out!" A lot of the places I looked up mentioned nude sunbathing which makes you wonder, "How do they feel about it during the rest of my stay?" The reviews on Yelp also seem like it follows with your wishes list... "Like most of the gay resorts in Palm Springs, Escape is fully clothing optional. I was happy to be naked my entire stay. Escape is not a particularly cruisy resort -- it's more a place of relaxation and rest. But like any gay resort, you very well may get better acquainted with a new friend." Here's hoping you have a great vacation. |
Thank a lot rjasnumberonefan !

"I have stopped writing TR's. Some people have a hard time with honest appraisals and lack of minutiae."
And some people don't like trip reports with too much minutiae, and some people don't like trip reports that are too positive (which is what I assume you mean to contrast with your honest appraisals). There are many styles of trip reports, and none appeal to everyone. But almost all of them appeal to someone. Please don't stop writing trip reports. They are almost always valuable to many people. |
I started one for the last trip but there was too many stick-up-the butt responses. In the past there were a few posters with good-natured but also pointed and funny commentary on TR's but now besides Cold one or two others the replies were simply acrimonious or contrary for the sake of being acrimonious or contrary.
When you read 95% of TR's it seems like they are documenting their last moments on earth rather than having fun. Have some friggin fun people. |
I would just like to express my gratitude to the Fodorite who directed me to this thread.
|
IMDonehere, I think "fun" is subjective as the OP of this thread can surely attest.
|
Dukey the sense of fun is missing. The OP knew exactly what he considers fun, but that is not the point. But on a TR if recounting in excruciating detail such as the time you woke up, what time the flight arrived, how many people were ahead of you on line, how many steps from the hotel to the nearest tree, then yes we have a different definition of fun.
|
IMDonehere, with all due respect, aren't you just doing the same thing by criticizing other peoples' trip report style that you accuse them of doing to you?

Oh don't feel bad NewbE. I don't think of you as a lamp post.<<< That is a funny one. I wish I had read this thread sooner just for that slappy comeback. I can't believe nobody gave suze kudos for that one. CarlosAn, I am glad you found some help. |
Um, there certaily were places for lesbians to go just for sex , and there still are a few, though ( some would say sadly) we have gone mainstream.
