Myrtle Beach GTG - New Years Weekend

From a previous thread, beach dweller mentioned a Myrtle Beach GTG. I understand GoTravel & iceeu2 are interested and may be in the area.

I'm flying down around Noon on the 30th. I would like to propose a gathering at Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery for happy hour appetizers and a couple of pints at about 4:00pm on the 30th (here's hoping they have their oatmeal stout). ((b))

If the weather's nice, will play golf on the 31st & 1st and will probably be open those afternoons. Flying back to NJ on the 2nd.

Any thoughts? Anyone else interested? ((b))

beach_dweller Dec 8th, 2005 04:22 AM

I'm definitely in! Four p.m. at Liberty (at Broadway at the Beach) on Friday 12/30.

Thanks for reminding us about this.

kathleen Dec 8th, 2005 06:48 AM

I can't believe that a Fodor's GTG will be so close to my home, and we'll be out of town-- San Francisco area for that week! We drove three hours to the Raleigh GTG and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and conversation. Would love to be able to attend another one. Any chance of choosing another time?

Good choice in The Liberty Steakhouse and Brewery. It's one of our favorite places to eat/drink at Broadway at the Beach. The brews, as you seem to remember, are excellent! Kathy

iceeu2 Dec 8th, 2005 09:56 AM

If we are there, we will certainly join you. As of now, the plans are to be there from 28th or 29th thru the 2nd. Liberty will be a good change for me and keep me from having to eat every meal at Calabash!! Plus, if we get bored with you boys, we can do some power shopping without ya!!

Should these plans fall thru for whatever reason, y'all can meet us at the beach shack for a few brewskis!

i'2

iceeu2 Dec 8th, 2005 09:59 AM

btw, chuck, the kids were at the beach during Thanksgiving and had their feast at Thoroughbred's. I remembered you recommending it one other time. Thanks for that....they enjoyed it!

Budman Dec 8th, 2005 10:15 AM

Sorry, Kathy, that you won't make it. You'll love SF though. Can't really reschedule because some of us are out-of-towners. But, we'll be back.

Now what makes you think we're going to bore you, iceeu2? ((a))

Anybody else? Should be great fun!!((b))

GoTravel Dec 8th, 2005 10:24 AM

Yep, count us in. We are attending a wedding on the 31st.

Is this the Liberty at Broadway at the Beach or the one on Kings Highway between 76th and 79th in Myrtle Beach?

Budman Dec 8th, 2005 10:51 AM

Great! Yes, it's at Broadway at the Beach, 21st Ave N. See you then.

Anybody else? ((b))

jnine Dec 8th, 2005 11:17 AM

I'm not a regular poster but a consistent lurker who lives in the general vacinity. I'd love to join you.

iceeu2 Dec 8th, 2005 11:28 AM

Great jnine!! Be there or be square!

beach_dweller Dec 9th, 2005 08:44 AM

I was thinking, I've never been to one of these GTGs.

How will we recognize each other?

Besides the fact that Budman will be the guy two-fisting glasses of Oatmeal Stout :-)

Budman Dec 9th, 2005 08:52 AM

We're the 4 party animals on the left. ((a))

GoTravel Dec 9th, 2005 09:23 AM

I am kinda tall with wild curley blond hair.

Budman Dec 9th, 2005 10:00 AM

I'm thinking everyone will find us. I'll be wearing my fodorites buttons. ((a)) ((b))

iceeu2 Dec 9th, 2005 10:45 AM

I'm the only one with a drink in my hand!! Imagine that! Cheers dears!

iceeu2 Dec 9th, 2005 11:40 AM

Budman, the Mrs. will be in attendance, correct?

Budman Dec 9th, 2005 11:45 AM

She wouldn't miss it. She's also got to have their onion rings.

Cheer!!! ((b))

FainaAgain Dec 9th, 2005 11:51 AM

Kathleen, we can have our own get-together in San Francisco!

OK, we don't have a Myrtle Beach here, but we have North Beach, Ocean Beach, and maybe more! We can add South Beach Diet to the list (whatever it is :) )

kathleen Dec 9th, 2005 12:15 PM

FainaAgain,
Absolutely! Great idea--anyone welcome.

Pick a beach, a bar, a restaurant and we'll be there. Our schedule is very flexible--since it is a vacation. Dec 29-31 in Sonoma Valley, Jan 1-3 in Carmel-Monterey area, Jan 4-6 (and most of the 7th) in San Francisco.

I was getting mighty jealous reading about the GTG so close to home, but now...
Kathy

FainaAgain Dec 9th, 2005 12:35 PM

OK, let's take it outside :) I'll start a new thread.

kathleen Dec 9th, 2005 12:44 PM

OK. Sorry Budman and others. Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Have a wonderful time in Myrtle Beach, and lift a glass for me. We usually have mild weather through our "winter" season so you may be able to sit outside in the patio area. Kathy

beach_dweller Dec 10th, 2005 05:20 AM

I've got blonde hair, movie star looks, they call me Sundance . . . no, wait, that's Robert Redford. :-)

Seriously, Budman, thanks for the photos link. We'll find you and iceeu2.

Looking forward to this GTG!

iceeu2 Dec 15th, 2005 11:01 AM

ttt

Budman Dec 16th, 2005 04:46 AM

Looks like a head count of 9. I'll call down to see if they can set up & reserve a section for us.

Looking forward to it. I've never met a movie star before. :-)((b))

GoTravel Dec 16th, 2005 04:53 AM

Oh shucks Budman, I'm not really a movie star!

Budman Dec 27th, 2005 04:46 AM

ttt. ((b))

beach_dweller Dec 27th, 2005 05:24 AM

I just did a little recon last night at Liberty. You don't have to thank me, it's just the kind of guy I am.

The pale ale was great (they were out of oatmeal stout--a travesty!)

The buffalo shrimp were extremely hot (delicious).

We had a blast getting rid of the post-holiday blues. Can't wait for the GTG Friday at 4:00 p.m.!

Budman Dec 27th, 2005 05:33 AM

HUMBUG!!! No Stout? Well, the good company will make up for it. ((d)) ((b))

My brother gave us a couple of tickets for the Alabama Theatre Christmas show that evening at 7:30. Any reviews? He said I could turn them in for a regular show from Feb thru July if we decided against going. ((b))

GoTravel Dec 27th, 2005 05:55 AM

Budman, just from personal experience, if I have a couple of beers somewhere and try to see a show, I'm zzzzzzz as soon as the lights are out!

Chuck, did they have the Rasberry Ale?

beach_dweller Dec 27th, 2005 02:02 PM

Maybe they'll have some stout by Friday!

They didn't have IPA either.

Jo, I think they did have the Raspberry Wheat Ale; it was either that or the Unfiltered Wheat.

Budman Dec 27th, 2005 05:13 PM

I talked with Liberty today asking if they would reserve a couple of tables for us. They said it was first come, first served, but recommended we get there a few minutes before 4 to ensure we get some tables. I plan to be there between 3:30/3:45.

GoTravel, I'm thinking you are right. We'll rebook for later in the season and trade it in for a couple more brews. ((a))

Whatever beers they have on tap all seem to be very good. Looking forward to meeting with you all. ((b))

seetheworld Jan 3rd, 2006 05:04 AM

Well...where are the pictures?? :D Did Budman show up with pants this time? :D We want to know!!!

GoTravel Jan 3rd, 2006 05:09 AM

We had a lovely time and Mr&Mrs. Budman, Mr.&Mrs.icee, and Chuck and his wife were just lovely people.

Chuck does indeed look like Robert Redford!

Both Budman and icee snapped photos and I'm sure they will post.

seetheworld Jan 3rd, 2006 05:13 AM

Thanks, GoT. Looking forward to a report :)

iceeu2 Jan 3rd, 2006 07:07 AM

Oh, so it was beachdweller that was the movie star Budman was meeting instead of you, GoT? lol

We had great fun. I do have some shots(hopefully), but we just got home, so will post them in the next day or so if the movie star(s) have no objections!!

Next time around it's an oyster roast.

GoT, does Mr. Go have a twin? DH swears he does and that they work for the same company!

GoTravel Jan 3rd, 2006 07:35 AM

LOL! We'll let beachdweller be the movie star and I'll stay on the B list!

No, he doesn't have a twin thank goodness! One is enough work!

Did you guys make it home okay in the horrible weather?

Budman Jan 3rd, 2006 08:08 AM

Hey, I did have my pants on this time. :-)

We had fun! What a great time with nice people and good beer. ((b)) Looking forward to the oyster roast in September.

Chuck, my brother is taking one of your courses this sememter. I told him to go up and introduce himself -- He's guaranteed to get either an "A" or an "F." ((a))

iceeu2, I'll send you a couple of photos tonight.

jnine, we missed you.

Hated to leave -- had a great couple of days of golf. Didn't rain until the night before we left - had an uneventful packed flight. ((b))

iceeu2 Jan 3rd, 2006 08:59 AM

We made it home, but it was horrible driving in the heavy rain and high winds all the way to Aiken.

September???????? Geez, louise. I can't wait that long!

Budman, I hope you captured a photo of me without a drink in my hand!!

Good times!

GoTravel Jan 3rd, 2006 09:02 AM

Ultimately, we were too lazy to do an oyster roast either Saturday or Sunday. We ended up having a wonderful NYE at home. Yippeee!

So great to meet y'all.
