My DW and I spent last New Year's Eve in San Francisco.

What did you do for NYE? I've lived here for 35 years and find it singularly uninteresting on New Year's Eve (of which I am not a fan anyway).

San Francisco is magic at Christmas. http://christmas.vg/christmas-concer...francisco-350/
We always go to an evening showing of a Christmas Carol and walk around Union Square, eat at Chevys. I heard that the dance along Nutcracker ( they will even give you a tutu and a wand) at the Yerba Buena Center is a hoot, but have never been there. Regardless, with the fog and the beauty of the city, you are bound to enjoy yourselves.

sf7307,
My DW and I had an early dinner at Cyrus last New Year's Eve when we visited San Francisco.

Starrs, are you thinking of Glide Memorial?

One thing Mr R5 and I like to do
during our annual Christmas prowl around Union Square is to visit Gumps. We buy one another a little gift and have it gift wrapped.
The wonderful thing about this is that the gift wrappers hand fold these really marvelous accordion like pleats on the tissue
inside the gift box. Quite special
and a fun treat for Christmas morning.

I think being in SF for Christmas
is quite enjoyable ! Wishing you a
lovely time, andrew8

Oh, DMlove, you too lost your log-in name? What's going on with this website?

sf7307 Nov 11th, 2008 07:13 PM

Faina, I didn't, I reregistered. I don't know why but I decided I shouldn't use my real name! So even though you all already know me by my real name, I figure after some time, I'll just be known by my new moniker.

I was in SF 3 years ago mid-December. We stayed in the Union Square area, so lots of Christmas shopping.

I agree with the Beach Blanket Babylon suggestion - those hats are something else especially the Christmas tree.

We also went to a Christmas Concert at Grace Cathedral. We bought the tickets the day of the performance, the cheap seats $12.00 - well worth it.

We also took in a movie at the Castro Theatre. "Miracle on 34th Street" was playing. The interior of the theatre is remarkable and of course the organ player played Christmas Carols before the movie.

Have an enjoyable Christmas trip.

There's also the Xmas ice skating rinks -- one at Justin Herman Plaza (behind the Hyatt Regency, across the street from the Ferry Bldg.) and I just saw on TV, one at Union Square this year.

Isn't it in front of the Hyatt from the Ferry Bldg? :)):O)
