Is there a particular area you want to visit in Los Angeles? What is your price range?

The Motel 6 on San Gabriel Blvd is next to a freeway. It has been there for quite a few years. It is not close to Santa Monica.

From your other post, you want to be near Santa Monica and/or Hollywood. I punch in your dates to Hotwire, and limit the results to areas A, B, D, E and H. If you have to stick with under $75, then you can get a 3* for $69 at LAX, which is really not too far from the areas you want to visit.

Based on the amenities listed on Hotwire, and comparing to database on betterbidding.com, that hotel is most likely the Crowne Plaza. One problem is that parking is $12 a day, from that hotel's website and no breakfast. But if you don't mind that cost, you're getting a very decent hotel for the price.

Or, there's a 2.5* in Glendale/Burbank/Universal City, which is north of the areas you want to visit, but still okay. Don't know what hotel, but for $79, these class of hotels often include simple breakfast and parking is likely to be free. But since there's no listing on betterbidding.com, you're clearly taking a chance.

I am not really saying you should go out and book something like that right now, as Hotwire (or Priceline, which will give you an even better price) do not offer refunds. You pay your money now and that's it.

What I'm showing you is that decent hotels can be got for not very large sum of money. Book something that allows cancellation, and then start looking at Hotwire (with help of betterbidding.com), and Priceline (with help of biddingfortravel.com), and see what hotels in what areas come up and then book/bid closer to your travel dates (maybe around April or May).

The Motel 6 in Santa Ana is not in a particularly safe area in Orange County, I try not to drive in that area!

We have taken many Motel 6 while touring the USA and mostly(especially those in the North and Southwest ) have been alright.When you're touring Motel 6 is fine.You only need a clean room ,it's close to the restaurants.We spend as little time in hotels as possible.We travel to see the country.When we stay several days we usually try Best Western.Paul

I read your other post, so now I know a little more. Have you tried VRBO for a rental instead? I glanced quickly at a few places and found some in your price range or slightly higher. You could have some meals at home, cutting down on the food expense.
