One of the "joys" of staying in Carmel, Pacific Grove, or even parts of Monterey is that you can walk to breakfast, dinner, and shops. If someone in the group needs a pottie break, rest, or to drop off some packages - it would be a walk or a short drive back to the hotel/B&B. Can's say that about Seaside.

We will be 3 miles from Monterey, and we rented a car since we are essentially "road tripping" through California for a week. We planned on driving since we are exploring the views, parks, and vineyards, and upon wine tour days just catching an uber or taxi. I agree in saying we won't be at the house much except to sleep.. but it's a super cute airbnb that we did get a great deal and looks sweet. The listing had over 100 reviews so I feel comfortable. Thanks everyone!

Try kayaking in Monterey Bay- very fun- lots of sea otters around usually and you will see sea lions and other critters.
They will provide you with all the gear- even booties so your feet don't get wet |
Awesome! We leave Friday and ya'll have helped me compile a great list. Thanks!

Another good kayak location is Moss Landing/Elkhorn Slough about 25 minutes north of Seaside.
Whale watching is also good right now and boats depart from both Monterey and Moss Landing. You can also keep an eye out for spouts any time you're near shore. You should still be able to see the harbor seal pups at Point Lobos (Whaler's Cove or China Cove are good spots) or Hopkins beach near the aquarium. Lots of wine tasting rooms in downtown Carmel if you just want to walk from one to the next. The Carmel visitor's center sells a passport if you're interested in sampling several http://www.carmelcalifornia.org/thin..._passport.aspx I haven't taken but have heard good things about Evan/Ag Venture's tours. We recently did the Vine to Wine tour at Holman Ranch in Carmel Valley which was fun http://ediblemontereybay.com/blog/si...man-vineyards/ It included an ATV tour of the vineyards and barrel tasting. Have fun! |
I enjoyed kayaking in Monterey Bay more than Moss Landing. Moss Landing is a slough- not the open waters of the bay and not as impressive to me. However, if you go, you should visit Phil's Fish Market at Moss Landing- good food, fun place.
