Margarita Recipe

I know this is a forum to discuss travel related issues, however, i'm giving a party next week and was wondering if anyone had any good margarita recipes?

Thanks

William Sonoma has a margarita mix that is to die for! Seriously, the best I've ever had. On the back are directions re: how much tequila to add - use more. Sorry but that's as close to recipe as I've ever gotten.

OliveOyl Feb 6th, 2003 02:51 PM

My husband makes a simple one everyone loves...and it's good enough that I'm spoiled for margaritas when we have them out somewhere. They generally don't measure up.

-1 6 oz can Minute Maid limeade frozen concentrate.
-6 oz Cuervo Gold
-1 healthy splash triple sec
-fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peach, whatever) as desired, or plain.

Toss all into blender, fill to top with ice and blend to correct consistency.

Rub rim of glass with lime to moisten, dip glass into margarita salt, then fill.

A votre sante!
OliveOyl Feb 6th, 2003 02:53 PM

That didn't read quite the way I intended. Use one 6 oz can limeade, not a 16 oz can!!

plummie Feb 7th, 2003 06:21 AM

My husband's recipe:
Run a lime (cut) around rim of glass, dip in salt and microwave for 30 seconds to set the salt.
3 parts tequila, 1 part triple sec, 1 part lime juice (either Rose's Lime or if fresh juice must sweeten with simple syrup). Blend well and serve over shaved ice with a lime slice and a straw. Salud!

I can just see the Fodors folks deleting this one ASAP

But not before I copied the recipes!

cb Feb 7th, 2003 06:54 AM

Here's one that we have always liked. Don't drink too many though, as they taste good but pack a powerful punch!
1 12 oz can of frozen limeade
Fill the empty limeade can w/as much tequila as you like
1 can of beer (your preference, we like Miller Light)
Put this in a blender, fill the rest with ice and blend!

Went to a marguarita party last summer where they were making them with fresh mango...AWESOME!

Patrick Feb 7th, 2003 07:00 AM

I never knock anything till I've tried it, but beer in a margarita? I'll pass on your place, cb. But when am I invited, Olive Oyl or plummie? Although I don't think I could walk after having a couple of plummie's recipe margaritas!

CoCo_Chanel Feb 7th, 2003 07:12 AM

This is a recipe from our friend who owns a local Mexican restaurant and was nice enough to share it:
(it's not cheap to make, but the taste is unsurpassed)
Pour equal parts in either a blender or cocktail shaker with ice:
- Patron tequila (either the silver or gold label)
- Citronge liquer or Cointreau (under punishment of death, do not use Triple Sec)
- Daily's liquid sweet & sour mix (not margarita mix)
Pour in glasses over ice, squeeze a lime wedge in each (you may desire salt on rim)
You can't drink too many of these - quite powerful - but I won't drink any other 'rita!

mm Feb 7th, 2003 07:45 AM

The Margarita is made with just 3 ingredients: tequila, lime juice, and orange liquor such as Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier.

Shake with ice, salt optional.

Sour mix is gross. Way too sweet.

Tequila by-passes the stomach and goes directly to the head!

Hee, hee, good one, Patrick.

Kal Feb 7th, 2003 10:19 AM

Alooohaaaaa,
We found on our last trip to Kauai that if you take whichever Maggie recipe, you can "kick it up a notch" by adding a shot of KeKe Key Lime liquor and/or a shot of Tequila Rose.
Man! 323 days may be too long to wait for another one. And after having to spend 2 days in Fresno, I may join Patrick shortly!
Mahaloooooooo <hic>
Kal

JoeG Feb 7th, 2003 01:35 PM

Okay. I've been holding back all day. But now it's quittin' time. Here goes.
These are very simple:

1) Blue Margaritas:
3 Parts Quervo 1800 Tequila
1 Part Rose's Lime Juice
1 Part Blue Curacao Liquer

Mix w/ice in stainless steel shaker
Pour into salt rimmed chilled Margarita glasses

2) Midori Margaritas
Same as above except substitute Midori (melon) Liquer for the Blue Curacao - These are really good!!!!

Enjoy!

JoeG

JoeG Feb 7th, 2003 01:39 PM

That's Jose Cuervo 1800 Tequila!

Elizabeth Feb 7th, 2003 02:27 PM

I like MM's recipe, with no sweetener except the triple sec or cointreau.

duh Feb 7th, 2003 02:41 PM

the frozen lime aid recipe is very good, especially for parties
1 can lime aid
1 can tequila
1/2 can triple sec.
be careful these are creepers. use lots of ice,
get great recipes on line, try electric lemonade!!!!

Suzie Feb 10th, 2003 10:46 AM

OOOOOO I can't believe some many people use the lime aid. We do too. This must splain why the lime aid section at teh grocery store is always empty!!! : )

I really dislike the Margarita mixes sold in most grocery stores.

I'm printing this post for the variations to try this summer when it starts to boil around here!!!!! Tho I am getting a frozen brain just thinking about these drinks!!!!
