Margarita Recipe
I know this is a forum to discuss travel related issues, however, i'm giving a party next week and was wondering if anyone had any good margarita recipes?

Thanks
|
William Sonoma has a margarita mix that is to die for! Seriously, the best I've ever had. On the back are directions re: how much tequila to add - use more. Sorry but that's as close to recipe as I've ever gotten.
|
My husband makes a simple one everyone loves...and it's good enough that I'm spoiled for margaritas when we have them out somewhere. They generally don't measure up.

-1 6 oz can Minute Maid limeade frozen concentrate.
-6 oz Cuervo Gold
-1 healthy splash triple sec
-fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peach, whatever) as desired, or plain.

Toss all into blender, fill to top with ice and blend to correct consistency.

Rub rim of glass with lime to moisten, dip glass into margarita salt, then fill.

A votre sante!
|
That didn't read quite the way I intended. Use one 6 oz can limeade, not a 16 oz can!!
|
My husband's recipe:
Run a lime (cut) around rim of glass, dip in salt and microwave for 30 seconds to set the salt.
3 parts tequila, 1 part triple sec, 1 part lime juice (either Rose's Lime or if fresh juice must sweeten with simple syrup). Blend well and serve over shaved ice with a lime slice and a straw. Salud!
|
I can just see the Fodors folks deleting this one ASAP
|
But not before I copied the recipes!
|
Here's one that we have always liked. Don't drink too many though, as they taste good but pack a powerful punch!
1 12 oz can of frozen limeade
Fill the empty limeade can w/as much tequila as you like
1 can of beer (your preference, we like Miller Light)
Put this in a blender, fill the rest with ice and blend!

|
Went to a marguarita party last summer where they were making them with fresh mango...AWESOME!
|
I never knock anything till I've tried it, but beer in a margarita? I'll pass on your place, cb. But when am I invited, Olive Oyl or plummie? Although I don't think I could walk after having a couple of plummie's recipe margaritas!
|
This is a recipe from our friend who owns a local Mexican restaurant and was nice enough to share it:
(it's not cheap to make, but the taste is unsurpassed)
Pour equal parts in either a blender or cocktail shaker with ice:
- Patron tequila (either the silver or gold label)
- Citronge liquer or Cointreau (under punishment of death, do not use Triple Sec)
- Daily's liquid sweet & sour mix (not margarita mix)
Pour in glasses over ice, squeeze a lime wedge in each (you may desire salt on rim)
You can't drink too many of these - quite powerful - but I won't drink any other 'rita!
|
The Margarita is made with just 3 ingredients: tequila, lime juice, and orange liquor such as Cointreau, Triple Sec, or Grand Marnier.

Shake with ice, salt optional.

Sour mix is gross. Way too sweet.

Tequila by-passes the stomach and goes directly to the head!
|

Hee, hee, good one, Patrick.
|
Alooohaaaaa,
We found on our last trip to Kauai that if you take whichever Maggie recipe, you can "kick it up a notch" by adding a shot of KeKe Key Lime liquor and/or a shot of Tequila Rose.
Man! 323 days may be too long to wait for another one. And after having to spend 2 days in Fresno, I may join Patrick shortly!
Mahaloooooooo <hic>
Kal
|
Okay. I've been holding back all day. But now it's quittin' time. Here goes.
These are very simple:

1) Blue Margaritas:
3 Parts Quervo 1800 Tequila
1 Part Rose's Lime Juice
1 Part Blue Curacao Liquer

Mix w/ice in stainless steel shaker
Pour into salt rimmed chilled Margarita glasses

2) Midori Margaritas
Same as above except substitute Midori (melon) Liquer for the Blue Curacao - These are really good!!!!

Enjoy!

JoeG
|
That's Jose Cuervo 1800 Tequila!
|
I like MM's recipe, with no sweetener except the triple sec or cointreau.
|
the frozen lime aid recipe is very good, especially for parties
1 can lime aid
1 can tequila
1/2 can triple sec.
be careful these are creepers. use lots of ice,
get great recipes on line, try electric lemonade!!!!
|
OOOOOO I can't believe some many people use the lime aid. We do too. This must splain why the lime aid section at teh grocery store is always empty!!! : )

I really dislike the Margarita mixes sold in most grocery stores.

I'm printing this post for the variations to try this summer when it starts to boil around here!!!!! Tho I am getting a frozen brain just thinking about these drinks!!!!
|
For something try a non-frozen margarita with this recipe . . . .

This may sound nasty because it does contain beer but I copied it out of a book and tried one Sunday afternoon. It's heavenly.

12 oz. frozen limeade
one bottle of Corona
12 oz. of 7-Up (don't use Sprite)
12 oz. Cuervo Gold

do not mix in blender (7-up aamd beer combo blows the top and will spray a sticky mess. . . .Just mix up in a pitcher and Voila!
|
Try the limeade recipe using half lemonade. And add a squeeze of fresh lime to each margarita.

We like them on the rocks (LOTS of ice) in tall glasses, instead of blended into slush.
|
I've got a margarita alternative made with Cachaca - a Brazillian spirit made from sugar cane. A native turned me on to this liquor and an easy drink to make for parties. It is fantastic.

1 dozen fresh limes
1 cup of sugar
Lots of ice
Cachaca (ask at a good liquor store for the best brand)

Take a big pitcher, squeeze all of the lime juice in then toss in the rinds layered with ice to the top. Pour in the sugar then fill to near the top with cachaca. Stir and vary the sugar/ice/liquor ratio to taste.

Serve in glasses with extra ice. this goes fast so be prepared to make another pitcher.
|
Cachaca--Rock on sister!
|
I don't have the recipe, but the mango margarita (Last mango in paris) at Jimmy Buffetts margaritaville are my favorite. Does anybody know how to make them?
|
It's been a while since I've had a mangorita (Cha Cha Cha in Long Beach makes these, for example), but basically it's tequila (preferably 100% blue agave), mango puree (I think Hansen's sells this), a splash of lime juice (or sweet & sour) and ice. Blend, pour, enjoy!
|
I just had to post a reply about the beer in the marg mentioned above...there is a restaurant chain called Hops that used to have a drink called a brew-rita which was precisely that-beer blended in with a regular margarita and it was AWESOME. (Note-I hate beer by itself). Unfortunately not many people must have been willing to try it b/c they no longer make them---but I must say-TRY it-its fab!
|
I have heard of adding beer to margaritas. I cannot fathom the mix of flavors that makes it good-- but people like it, so there you go.
I like my margaritas strong, tart and cold-- but on the rocks, please. Blended ones give me brain freeze. However, mangoritas you have to have blended-- and they're just dandy (for some reason, no brain freeze)! |
QED Margarita:
3 - cups of crushed ice, not cube (if your measuring cup is 1.5 cups like mine, then 2 to the brim) 1 - shot Cuervo (to the brim) 3 - shot Cuervo Margarita Mix (under the brim) Put in blender on liquify. Makes enough for two standard Margarita glasses (see K-mart or Target for glasses). Note: my shot glass is a bit large, I think it's supposed to be a candle holder. |
And to make this post travel related, how about a "Smash" known all over the Carribean. My favorite of all the umbrella drinks.
1 oz Dark Rum 1 oz Light Rum 1 oz Malibu Rum 1/2 oz Apricot Brandy splash of lemmon and lime juice large bottle pineapple juice This is great for a party punch bowl. To decorate the top float ice cubes with a slice of lemmon or lime frozen in the cube. Heavenly. |
