Scootoir-Lava Lava is the same people as the BI location.

Love the setting (you can fall out of our 3rd floor room's front door at The IOB and land at a sand table) but maybe only do Happy Hours there from now on as regular menu is $$$ IMHO. Dunno about any allergy menus.

The restaurant is the old "Al and Don's" for any Kauai old timer's.
I was so hoping Jean-Marie Josselin would have taken over that place. With his food and that view...but, he's back in a strip mall up the hwy.

As for The Oly, sorry you thought it was Greek like 99% of the other Olympic Cafes around.

Per The Garden Island Gazette:

<i>"Nelson isn’t sure how Olympic Cafe got its name, but she suspects the name came about because the former owners were friends with five-time Olympic medalist Duke Kahanamoku.</i>"

Once again, songdoc and I agree to disagree on restaurants. I know....I'll alert the Media! :-"

The OC is not "fine dining" by any means. Sorry you guys had bad experiences there.
I thought we were talking views and even tho not on the NoShore, some nice views of The Sleeping Giant, King Kong etc. After a rain, some hellacious rainbows, too.

I found his fave, Kountry Kitchen to be nothing to write home about and can't understand the ravings and about it other than it's write up in The Blue Bible.

<i>ToMAYto TahMAHto </i>.

I'd rather go to Ono Family.
About the same view as KK.

Wondering if I should list the testimonials of my friends who found KK lackluster and no big whoops?
I do have two local ohana who go there at least once a year for a mother/daughter b'fast tradition so I guess that must mean something.

The more I think about it the more I'd rec Oasis if you're not driving to the No Shore for a panini on S'docs lanai.

Maybe we should have a thread where we all state our fave Kauai restos so we can see how our tastes vary for any future refs. "Box the foodie compass" so to speak.
For instance, I already <b>KNOW</b> SF7307 has no taste whatsoever what constitutes a good pizza on Kauai! <i> heh heh heh </i>

Mucho Mahalos!

Ive always found KK to be a local joint that locals went to before it turned into a tourist joint. Yet it retains a certain vibe.

Oly I'll admit is not about the food. Its a vibe, although I had the best over easy egg of my life there (yolk sauce!) and a pretty damned good ban/Mac/blue pancake.

Never even crosse my mind that it would be Greek. Stupid haole.

arg!!! I was calling myself a stupid haole in case that got lost in translation

Just a note that we ended up having lunch near the pool at the St. Regis in Princeville and it was lovely. Food was decent but they forgot the chicken in DH's chicken salad then brought him some that was dry. The view was gorgeous however and helped make up for it.
