We were told navigating LA traffic and highways were not easy so we were trying to avoid driving. I realize now we must have a car to explore the area. Thank you for the information.
Rent a car and do what the rest of us do, roll up the windows, turn on the air, turn on some good music and chill out until you get to your destination. L.A. County is 500 square miles big. I've lived here most of my life and can't imagine doing your itinerary without a car. I'm not saying that it can't be done, but I wouldn't want to be non-car dependent and especially on a vacation. Plus, there's so much to see along the way from one place to another that I would want the flexibility of having a car to do what I wanted to do along the way. As for being told that navigating traffic and freeways (not highways) is difficult well yes, there will be traffic and how much will depend on when you are on the freeway, but as for difficulty in navigating freeways, I don't know where that's coming from as I find it quite straight forward. Plus, there are also freeway maps. Get a map, study it, and map out your routes.
