The New York Times reported today that up to 2 FEET of snow blanketed parts of Buffalo, NY today.

motor_city_girl Oct 13th, 2006 06:05 AM

Oh that is so wrong! It is still October, right?

gomiki Oct 13th, 2006 06:18 AM

Spoke with my friend in Buffalo this morning. 20 INCHES of SNOW and most of the area has no power!! She said the trees are all bent over...they still have the leaves on them. Some areas will not have power till Monday at the earliest.

jetset1 Oct 13th, 2006 09:13 AM

We are having a nice mild fall with rain and still have leaves on the summer trees.. but a couple more weeks, it will change to frost and then the white stuff.
Have any of you ever made snow ice cream?
I remember chilly Saturday mornings in central Calif. too, during the late fall, when I carried a banner for my jr. high school in parades.
We'd be out there in our uniforms with the white zip up boots, near hypothermia, with the one free arm doing motions and keeping us warm.. my dad would always tell me my cheeks looked pretty because they were bright pink,lol..
Last year, our snow level was lame and by the time there was enough for skiing,(Jan./Feb), there were so many highway accidents with fatalities that I was afraid of the road and driving with the kids to get there:(

((*))hoping this year is better and not bitter cold either, J.

Heads up, motor_city_girl, if you don't know already - the game has been moved up to 4:30. Dress warm, have fun. We'll be bundled up in front of the big screen. :-)

motor_city_girl Oct 13th, 2006 09:51 AM

Yes, heard last night. Thanks!

NatureGirl19317 Oct 13th, 2006 10:00 AM

Bring it on!! Ive had my electric blanket on the bed for like a month! Hahah!!

It seems like "fall" is so short, at least around here-just a few good weekends b/w hot and cold...

BayouGal Oct 13th, 2006 10:06 AM

NG, where ya been? I've been missing you! 'Course, I've been gone, so maybe that explains it. ;-)

Motor, I'm gonna watch the game in your honor! I'll be bundled up in front of the tube too - we might make it to 50 tonight! \:D/ Could actually turn the a/c off today.

motor_city_girl Oct 13th, 2006 10:13 AM

Thanks and jealous!!!!

We could use some good vibes of Southern hospitality!

Next thing you know, Al Gore will be making a movie about global cooling. But then, maybe he only considers facts which support one side of the issue.

motor_city_girl Oct 13th, 2006 05:44 PM

Had to post here too...

Woo Hoo Tigers! Thanks for the good vibes Bayou Gal! I will cheer for YOUR tigers too. I think you should check out www.fathead.com for your fix!

All this talk of snow scares me a bit.....I wonder if it will be snowing when I visit NYC. Well, I guess I should look for some snowboots in november.....

I like the cold, I just don't want to walk in the rain and not be able to take pics....:(

ilovetotravel29 Oct 13th, 2006 07:27 PM

sorry, forgot to mention time and location...nyc early december.

jersey Oct 14th, 2006 03:25 AM

Most likely there won't be snow in NYC in early December. Just cold (probably). That being said, I am also reminded that it just snowed two feet in Buffalo, so who the heck knows with this crazy weather.

BuffaloGirl Oct 14th, 2006 06:05 AM

Jersey, Buffalo had two feet of very heavy snow, which damaged thousands and thousands of trees. The damage is unbelievable! 400,000 people are without power. I'm lucky enough to be at my SIL's house. she is maybe one of about 100 homes that have power. We don't know why, but we're happy about it!

The weather itself isn't all that crazy, but the fact that it happened in early October is.

Today it's pouring rain. Go figure.

JJ5 Oct 14th, 2006 06:24 AM

Much empathy. We had an early October storm with so much rain that we had parts of three suburbs out of electricity for up to 4 days in Chicagoland as well. Almost 2 weeks ago now. One of my co-workers is just restocking her freezer this weekend.

Heavy stuff that downs trees, the same result here, but ours was winds and solid rain.

I am supremely hoping for a sweep, motor city girl- and also in the Series.

I hope the poor people in Buffalo get their electricity back as quickly as possible.

kcapuani Oct 14th, 2006 08:27 AM

I live just outside of Buffalo in Williamsville, NY and am down to about 6"-8" of snow. I just got my power back this morning (thanks to my neighbor who works for the power company). Now the worry over flooding begins because it is about 50 degrees out.

It looks like a tornado went down my street, and is such a shame because of all the beautiful maple trees that are destroyed.

BayouGal Oct 14th, 2006 08:34 AM

Just wanted to let you know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you going through this disaster. Please keep us posted, and if there's anything we can do (like call our reps to try to get a disaster area declared) please let us know. God bless!

BuffaloGirl Oct 14th, 2006 03:46 PM

kcapuani.....WOW! You are a lucky girl to have your power back. Although I consider myself lucky that I have somewhere to stay while I await my power to return. Not so many people are lucky. :-(

North Buffalo was hit heavily. I've lived here my entire life (45 years to be exact) and have seen all kinds of weather, but I've never seen anything like this.

Tree damage has been estimated in the tens of thousands. Yikes.

LoveItaly Oct 14th, 2006 04:56 PM

Hi BuffaloGirl, I saw quite a report about your area on CNN this morning, what a disaster! I thought of you and was glad you are in a safe place with power. Take good care..good thoughts and prayers to all of you.
