LA Beaches - Calm Water?

Last year my kids wouldn't go in the water, the waves were so big. Frankly I didn't want them to.

We're staying north of LA (Calabasas area). My daughter is excited about returning but wonders if we can "turn off the waves" this time.

Anyone know of Malibu area beaches with calm water and small waves? Or perhaps one of you has God-like powers and could actually grant her wish sometime next week?? Orange County is out. Thanks all.

Rita,
I think, and I know others will know, that Paradise Cove in Malibu is calm.

Our waves are dependant on conditions in the Pacific that can be occuring thousands of miles away.
The only calm place I know for certain is Avalon city beach on Catalina.

A great beach is in Carpinteria, Ca--about an hour north of Malibu. Right before Santa Barbara. Great tide pools, too. I lived there when I was a kid. You could not get me out of the water.

A bit of a drive but a nice day trip.

Agree that Carpinteria is a great spot for families. Just take the 101 straight north from Calabasas. Exit Casitas Pass, turn left, then right after the bank and left onto Linden.
Should take less than an hour. The Spot Hamburger Stand is walking distance from the beach.

Thanks everyone. Carpenteria sounds good.
Anyone else know about Paradise Cove or how to get there?

Rita,
Paradise Cove is S. of the Kanan-Dume Rd on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway). I believe there's an exit for it. The exact address is: 28128 W. PCH. Many beach movies were filmed there: Gidget and a few others. You can be assured there will be an exorbitant parking fee.
I don't know about street parking.

M.
Carpenteria is called "the world's safest beach" because the Channel Islands soften the waves and the undertows. It may be overstated but still pretty safe and beautiful sand and tide pools.

My sister-in-law used to take her little kids to Zuma beach. I think the waves are more about the weather than the particular beach you're on. But, yes, Carpenteria has the reputation for being always lovely.
