I love that end of the beach as you have a fantastic view of the pali. Good job!

Marginal Mar 25th, 2009 03:06 PM

I remember seeing this place. I did not like the location, just next to the parking and noise from the Hanalei Pier. Although the house looks very lovely, the constant cars driving past, partying at the beach, and parking congestion were not what I wanted. I was at the other end, by the Moon Cottage which is far more quiet and private. That's why the Moon Cottage fills up so fast.

wow, wasn't that a little bit of sunshine post.....

Marginal Mar 25th, 2009 03:33 PM

Hey, I'm being honest and warning OP about the location of this place. It looks lovely inside and out from the photos, but isn't it at least responsible to mention the street and park situation?

iamq Mar 25th, 2009 03:34 PM

For the record this house is next to the lot that is next to the beach park, not right next. I for one, do not think that being close to the pier and the beach park is a bad thing. I think the beach at this end of the Bay is far superior to the beach in front of the Moon Cottage.

china_cat Mar 25th, 2009 06:19 PM

I do appreciate the warning Marginal. I did not think it was that close to the beach park, at least from google earth it did not seem so. that was a concern of mine. A poster from tripadvisor who was on Kaui said she had seen the property and did not think it would be too noisy.

I liked Moon Cottage too. it was booked for my dates.

anyways, no second thoughts now...the check is in the mail.

chinacat... exellent choice. I've never seen this prop, but it looks wonderfl. Very nice.

Enjoy Hanalei... you'll never be the same. Aloha.

China Cat,

I stayed in the house next door and there were no problems. While one or two late-nights you could hear cars engine's revving on the road, the intrusions were minimal. The pier out front is a lovely view. And the beach there is perfect.

china_cat Apr 4th, 2009 07:27 PM

thanks kpatric, that's great to hear.

China Cat,

Thanks for the tip. I checked that house out for our May 11-18 trip to Hanalei and it is available.
We'll book it, based on what it looks like to us and the discussion on the board which makes it sound wonderful, even if it is a little too close to the beach park and pier for some.

It is too big for us, my wife and I, but we too wanted to be on the beach. We're using miles to fly over, so we are pretending that we are saving money!

I'll definitely let you and everyone know how it worked out for us. Kauai here we come!

china_cat Apr 16th, 2009 07:55 AM

ksddfam, let me know how it is for sure. You will precede me by several months. So I'll be happy to hear any tips you have.

ksddfam Apr 16th, 2009 08:20 AM

Will do. We've stayed in Hanelei on 2 other occasions, both at Hanelei Bay Resort, which was nice, especially when we had our kids.
This will be nice to be on the beach and a little quieter, more private location.
I googled the owner's name and found out he runs an interior design importing firm specializing in Italian products, so I have no doubt that the quality of the interior will be really nice.

Can't tell you and the others who participated in this thread how helpful it really was. In 2 days, I was able to find this special place using the advice and links provided.
Thanks to all...

Another crazy person who actually wants to stay Hanalei? Who knew there we so many of us.

ksddfam Apr 16th, 2009 05:49 PM

Well, since I've now joined an exclusive club...people crazy enough to want to stay in Hanalei, maybe others of you can give me your top restaurant recommendations.
We will be so enjoying those evening walks into town for dinner...

china_cat Apr 16th, 2009 06:15 PM

I keep hearing Bar Acuda and Hanelei Dolphin.
I know I'm going to be buying fish to grill from Hanalei Dolphin's fish market, that's for certain.

iamq Apr 16th, 2009 06:20 PM

Postcards is our fav place Hanalei. The don't serve meat, but their fish presentations are really good. The nightly fish special has never dissapointed.

The fish market at the Hanalei Dolphin is a great place for sushi rolls, ahi poke and fresh mahi, ono and opakapaka. We buy some sushi and poke and take it down to the beach for dinner. The Hanalei Dolphin restaurant is a fairly dependable and somewhat boring place. We ordered lobster there once and loved it.

Other places we at and like: Polynesia Cafe, Bar-acuda, Hanalei Gourmet (not exactly gourmet), and the Village Snack Shop (local style breakfasts and plate lunches).

Thanks...we'll get to work on the list as soon as we get there!
