All right, I just had to chime in. I don't know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but it's been clear & sunny here! Sweating like a... well, let's just say it's been hard to run a 5K in this balmy weather!

Billaaaaay....Maui don't count.

Mels...I was at the gym Sunday watching the Pro Bowl and saw the misters spritzing away on the sideline and drooled.

Hi K9s,

Starrs here, calling on your Kauai expertise.
How many times have you visited Kauai and what is your favorite place to stay?

I've only been once - squeezing in a couple of days at the Waimea Plantation Cottages between a week at the Hilton on the Big Island and heading back for a stay at the Four Seasons Hualalai. Samantha Brown raved about the plantation cottages and we just had to give it a try.

http://www.waimeaplantation.com/

We loved them! It was a good mix of hotel types for that trip (including our stay on Oahu) and we fell in love with the grounds, the simplicity of the cottages and the feel of "Old Hawaii".

I think many of you choose condos but I've never been a big condo fan. Maybe it's the better option for Kauai - I'm just not sure.

So, I'd love your feedback. My prize at the latest GTG was the Oahu guidebook and if I had my druthers I'd probably add on the Big Island during the next trip. But in case Kauai wins out, please share your favorite location to stay and why.

Any scoop or thoughts about the Princeville resort reopening as the St. Regis Princeville Resort?

Thanks!
((*))

Kal Feb 18th, 2009 06:50 PM

Oh Ohhhhh...there goes the neighborhood. #-O

I know very little of Princeville happenings but for everything being renovated...and if you don't know where I stay and why by now, you just ain't been paying attention!
;;)

But in case Kauai wins out
When will you know before everyone compares and contrasts?

iamq Feb 18th, 2009 07:12 PM

Hommey ain't playing this game, but if you want to read all of my trip reports on Kauai you can locate them on my newly created profile.

starrs Feb 18th, 2009 07:23 PM

"ain't playing this game"?

Not sharing travel advice on a travel forum?

Ummmm.... okay.

Kal Feb 18th, 2009 07:34 PM

Ummmmmmmm....
How condescending. Or is it passive/aggressive?

Ummmmmmm...I dunno.

iamq Feb 18th, 2009 07:37 PM

Everything is a game with you starrs. If you liked the Waimea Plantation Cottages, then that is good enough for me. I think the place is a dump, so you really don't want my advice.

starrs Feb 18th, 2009 07:41 PM

Hi Kal,

I know from previous threads that the K9s tend to stay in condos. I guess I'd like to know if there is anything in particular you like about condos vs other options with kitchens and a pool.

Someone (don't remember who) pointed out that the beaches on the Waimea side weren't great and that wasn't a problem during our short stay because we were out and about and didn't "do" beaches on Kauai. But, for a longer stay is there a particular beach you like?

Thanks for your help!

Kal Feb 18th, 2009 07:49 PM

No. They are all good just follow regular ocean safety measures and you'll be fine.

starrs Feb 18th, 2009 08:10 PM

Thanks!
