OHHhhh, now I get the rainbow in the picture!

lvk Feb 6th, 2009 10:23 AM

Every K9 knows:

Maui mo' bettah! (in my best Kal voice, even though I have never heard Kal's voice :D )

RNCheryl, we loved the HBR, and I'm sure you will too. Get some poke, ceviche and ono salad from the Hanalei Dolphin Fish market; Add a bottle or two of your favorite vino. Sit on your balcony and enjoy!

rncheryl Feb 6th, 2009 02:25 PM

IVK: "poke", geese, my research hasn't uncovered this. So, give it up!

Mary2Go Feb 6th, 2009 04:52 PM

rncheryl, eating poke or sashimi for the first time is akin to eating raw oysters for the first time! You need several glasses of liquid encouragement!

After the first time.....you're gonna love it!!

iamq Feb 7th, 2009 08:20 AM

lvk,

I've heard Kal's voice and your impression was right on the $-).

Ahi poke rolls from Hanalei Dolphin es muy ono.

gyppielou Feb 7th, 2009 08:40 AM

I've heard Kal's voice too, but he was tying one on at the SandBar in preperation of a possible tsunami while I was hanging with the deer on Molokai! It was a lousy connection.

I mean, he was tying himself to the sandbar in case the tsunami hit and dragged him and the bar over to Ni'ihau for the first haole bar.

Nothing like storebought ahi poke on ice eaten at the beach with wooden scewers and seltzer. Polihale comes to mind.....sigh. Oh and ono salad on saltine crackers.....

makai1 Feb 7th, 2009 09:34 AM

stop gyppie... stop! I can't take any more. I'm one click away from booking a mileage flight over just to taste the ahi on the beach! :`(

gyppielou Feb 7th, 2009 09:45 AM

Now that is one emoticon I can truly get - sobbing over ahi on da beach emoticon!

For all who are as obsessed with tuna as I am ---my fave christmas present was the book, 'The Sushi Economy"

The irony is that I fly in ahi, because I can't get off the boat Boston Bluefin - it' all sent to Japan and then sent back here.

Life's not fair!

malama pono my funny valentines

iceeu2 Feb 7th, 2009 10:43 AM

Kal Feb 8th, 2009 08:25 AM

mak, if you are hearing voices...then push that danged button!!!!!((r))

gyppie, what is ono salad?

rncheryl Feb 8th, 2009 03:03 PM

Semi-refined person that I am, I am a fan of Cervice. But the POKE stuff, will need to try it at a couple of establishments in Kauai to see what it is all about.

Liquid encouragement first, of course.

Kal Feb 8th, 2009 03:13 PM

rnc,
Poke is soooooo gooood with an ice cold Kona Brew Co brew.

Brenneke's cerviche is also some of the best I ever had.

gyppielou Feb 8th, 2009 07:51 PM

ono salad is like tuna salad and is found at Dolphin fish market in Hanalei - yummy on saltine crackers with a touch of wind sand at the beach.

Poke, which can be found at the local grocer in a number of carnations of spice and accominament is wonderful served ice cold with an ice cold seltzer water or an ice cold effen vodka.

Ronda Feb 9th, 2009 12:42 PM

"Please don't lick the tuna."

OK, Kal, was that you disguised as a British tourist?

One of the more notorious recent cases was that of a drunken British tourist - caught by a Japanese TV crew - who licked the head of a frozen tuna while two others, also caught on TV, rode on a trolley used by wholesalers.

Ronda...
I wish Fodor's had an emote of someone SEVERELY biting their tongue!!!!

Funny article.
But as I always say, a little poke never hurt anyone.

iceeu2 Feb 10th, 2009 03:56 AM
