Joe Torre's Vacation- Any Recommendations?
Joe Torre unexpectedly begins vacation today. Due to the surprise vacation, Joe Torre has not planned ahead for his vacation. Does anyone have recommendations?
|
Wherever it is, they better have humble pie on the menu!
|
South of the Border
|
I don't know, but I hear the city of Boston is nice this year. He might even be able to take in a baseball game while he is there. Or perhaps he can tour Southern California in between filming Visa commercials.
|
I think he should attend a World Series game at Fenwy to see what he is missing.
|
Perhaps he should look at the brighter side of things. A visit to Mama Cass' gravesite would give him some perspective. Not all choking incidents prove to be fatal. |
Ted LOL, hysterical! Great tie-in to a great urban legend!

Maybe he should go to Tampa and watch it with his buddy George.
Then again, maybe not: Torre has class. Curious |
I think Joe needs some time to unwind and get away from it all. Maybe he could spend some time at a nice mountain commune where he could meditate, get back to nature, maybe make some pot holders and beaded CHOKERS... oh sorry.
Or maybe he could go back to school, learn a new trade like being a teacher, librarian or how about he becomes an EMT. That way he could learn the Heimlich maneuver and rescue CHOKING victims! |
You guys are cruel. Torre is the last guy you should be taking your frustrations??? out on. Come on Boston won it - where's the positive stuff???
|
Though I was rooting Red Sox, Joe Torre was a great baseball player, although not up to Hall-of-Fame standards. As Torre has shown himself to be an excellent manager, he definitely has my humble endorsement for enthronement into the Hall of Fame. I posted this thread only in fun.
|
Wow, attacking Torre now. Nothing like playing with Karma, hah.
The Sox loss in the 1975 Series can be in part tied to Darrell Johnson's decision to bring in 25 year old, untested rookie Jim Burton in Game 7 with the score tied in the top of 9th - mind you after his only other appearance in that Series came in Game 3 (where I believe he lasted less then an inning) - where he promptly gave up the Series winning run. You're all familiar with othre "historical" moves made by Zimmer, McNamara, and Grady Little that can directly be tied to a major disappointment. Until, TODAY, Boston sports talk wanted Francona, sorry, Fran"coma" I believe was the name I heard, bounced. So, what do you guys do - you go after the Yankee manager and make sport of him BEFORE the World Series even starts. Karma baby, Karma. |
Gee thanks, Ted. I just spit my coffee all over my keyboard. :)
|
Hey Ryan - You guys had plenty of fun last year. I remember some pretty ugle threads. Now its our turn. Joe is a great manager but...
Maybe Joe could take a golf vacation. Hey Joe "Who's your Caddy"? |
Bennie,
When Francona decides to leave Pedro in for pitch number 107 and Pujols/Beltran pops a 3 run blast, don't say I didn't warn you. |
I've been calling Tito "Francoma" for sometime now. No one is more amazed than me that he managed our bullpen right. But there is no way that he'll pull a Grady Little. He likes his job too much. If anything he'll pull someone out too early.
No one is a better manager than Joe - I wish he was ours. The guy is such an ambassador for baseball. But I still can't help poking some fun. |
Come on ... "who's your caddy". Admit it, that's pretty funny no matter who you root for!
|
Good question. Where do the Red Sox skippers usually go this time of year? :S-
|
Bennie, were you watching game 5?
Pedro hit the 100 pitch mark in the 6th. Guess what happens - he gives up 3 runs on a few walks and a couple of hit batters. Had Gordon not imploded in the 8th, that decision to keep Pedro in for more then 100 ptiches (when BTW his BAA goes over .300) would have been skewered by Sox fans. |
Bennie; Its TERRY Francona BTW. Tito is his dad. He had a long career in the majors.
|
wow I went on this site to get away from those yankees. What a diapointing series for us New Yorkers.there will probably be some changes made but if I were Joe I would try and go somewhere that baseball does not exist,Maybe the moon
|
Joe could go to Marine Park in Brooklyn, that's where he's from.Maybe the Dodger's could use him:)
Torre is a class act, as several people have already said. No sour grapes, no excuses. Steinbrenner is lucky to have him! |
Maybe Joe could go to Scotland. Who's your laddie?
|
Hey Jacketwatch - Terry is called Tito also by everyone here. Trust me I've listened to every interview, every press conference, every replay for the entire year.
|
In Washington DC househunting. The city is getting a team and he would be great for it.
|
Who is joe torre??????? I want to spill my coffee too!!!!!!!
|
Major League baseball manager, New York Yankees, played catcher in playing days, grew up in Brooklyn. If he gets fired maybe he could open his own restaurant, call it Catch a Torres.
|
Fracona.....hmmm....Franconia. That's it! He should spend a few winter months in Franconia Notch, New Hampshire. Unfortunately, I think most of the AMC facilities will be closed, so he'll have to stay in one of the motels in the greter Berlin (preonounced BER-lin) area. Don't forget your snowshoes, Joe.
|
Joe Torre has ALWAYS been accepted here in Boston by the fans whether at a restaurant or cafe...He'd be welcome at Fenway by all of the Red Sox Nation.... He''s a class act.
|
I don't begrudge the Red Sox fans a little crowing over bending, if not breaking, the Curse of the Bambino.
But Joe Torre is a class guy. I remember when he was in Atlanta as a player, and I bemoned the fact that he left. Not Hall of Fame material? I don't think so! If Joe goes anywhere, I hope he throws his cell phone in the sewer so he cannot be pestered by Steinbummer and his gigantic egotistical demeanor. I thought Joe Torre handled the post game interview with a lot of class. He is not the guy who ran off Roger Clemens and Andy Pettit. Nor was he the guy who thinks he can buy success by hiring expensive mercenaries like A-Rod. Baseball is a team game, and the Red Sox got up off the deck and won. Now, the Red Sox fans need to show some class and restraint themselves. It is a rotten shame that a 21 year old girl died as a result of wounds inflicted during an altercation between the police and a crowd of fans. One can direct blame both ways. But blame does not resurrect! I feel for everybody involved in the tragedy. |
Mr. Brown, if you had read my post accurately, you would understand that I have endorsed Torre for Cooperstown. And, if Torre is fired, I hope my hometown of Washington signs him up right away.
|
Torre is a class act. I know of no Sox fan who despise him.
I'm sure all baseball fans prayers are with the Snelgrove family. |
The Boston Police Department are taking the blame for the death of the young lady. They fired indiscrimently without warning to the opposite side where there were trouble makers. There were more than 60,000 fans next to EMPTY Fenway Park. The BPD had video cameras on buildings and lamp posts and will go after the people who caused damage..I saw on tv a tree climbed and ripped apart in Kenmore Square. Unlike many other parks Fenway is in the middle of Boston surrounded by colleges..The colleges will take action against their guilty students.

This from a devoted Sox fan:
Torre -- class act, great manager. Jeter & B. Williams -- guys who hustle and play the game the way it's supposed to be played. A-Rod: Overpaid whiner. Steinbrenner: C'mon. even New Yorkers have to hate this guy. And what is with people like him and Donald Trump? Something in the water? Any disagreement, Craig & Ryan? |
ARod, overpaid, definately. Overpaid by the Yanks not really as Texas is paying 1/3rd of his annual salary. Whiner, maybe. Carefully calculated public image, certainly.
Steinbrenner-10 years ago, most Yankee fans would have agreed. However, you can't fault the guy for trying to put a winner on the field. He takes his increased revenue and he plows it into trying to build a winner. Numerous other owners take the luxury tax dollars paid by Steinbrenner and pocket it. Did they lose this year, yep. But, if you knew anything about their history, you can't argue with what he's accomplished since 1973. In terms of Trump, anyone who has worked in NY financial circles has viewed Trump as a showboating buffon for years. The fact that America thinks he's "a great businessman" is a joke. BTW, if you are trying to infer that Steinbrenner is solely to blame for baseball's problems, I suggest you realize he has a 1/30th vote on league matters and that you look at the escalation of salaries by EVERY team following expansion and their Fox deal from several years ago. Also, while ARod and his 1-19 after game 3 is noticeable. Any Yankee fan who understands the game views Tom Gordon as the reason they lost, with Kevin Brown a close second. |
I wasn't going to get into the Brown/Gordon thing, as I thought most fans had figured that out.
Nice to know Trump's not fooling anyone. I could tell you a (long) story sometime about how he bankrupted small contractors -- some of whom I know -- while buying his girlfriends giant diamond rings. As for Big Stein, I see him as a symbol of what's wrong with baseball. Also, he's spent so much money that sooner or later the shotgun approach works -- and sometimes fails. So every time he signs a Roger Clemens, it looks smart. Then along comes Kevin Brown. And I can't believe I'm having a civilized discourse with a Yankee fan. |
I would suggest that Steinbrenner makes a very easy, very public target to criticize. But, if his ownership was SO detrimental to the game, then why is it that the other owners who can outvote him 29-1, haven't on issues like revenue sharing?
If the game is "being ruined" why is it that 2004 saw baseball have it largest EVER single season attendance and 10 of the 11 days with the highest total attendance came in the last 4 years? http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/NASAp...&fext=.jsp There are a few reasons why teams publicly criticize Steinbrenner and privately praise him. He's makes an easy target that deflects criticism for what some other owner's do - like cry "poverty" while pocketing the luxury tax, like crying "poverty" to get new stadiums, like not answering the question of what they generate on a cash flow basis. I would also suggest that if you look at the attendance stats for every team they've faced on the road (except for Boston), the Yanks are the single biggest cash generator that a home team has. Arizona sold out 4 games this year - opening day, and every game of the Yankees series. Same with the Reds last year. |
Ryan - I couldn't agree with you more about Steinbrenner. He is only doing what other owners would do if they were in the same market as him. Money alone doesn't make the Ny Yankees a great team. You have to spend the money wisely. Sometimes the Yankees don't but more often than not they do. Its their decisions that make them successful.
I've got tons of respect for Torre - he's a great ambassador for the game. |
Bennie: Actually on Sportscenter this morning they referred to him as "Terry" and then "Tito" in the next breath.
|
Ryan - once again I can't add to or fault anything you have said. K_999_9 - I for one appreciate the civilized discourse.
