After an extensive search in 2009, it was announced that Warren and Jimmy are not related... except maybe by adam and eve...

Also found it interesting that Buffett statement regarding oil spill was akin to no big deal... "this will pass"... is this the same treehugger who produced and starred in "Hoot" about saving some owls in the keys??? Is he that interested in launching the Hotel that he will deny the damages caused to the environment ... just another sell-out for $$$

Aduchamp1 Jun 7th, 2010 06:54 AM

No, Jimmy is related to the All You Can Eat Buffett.

If my parrothead brother is any indication of the potential clientele for this resort- there is no way I will ever go there.

Wow, some people on this forum really have a problem with success don't they!

"Wow, some people on this forum really have a problem with success don't they!"

I have no problem with success, just really inane song lyrics based entirely on rhymes. Well, that and 55 year old fat guys who still think they are in a college fraternity. Which for me sums up the typical parrothead.

Aduchamp1 Jun 7th, 2010 11:24 AM

There are some song writers who do not allow their songs to be associated with any product.

Gene Simmons, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Buffett are masters of marketing.

Some people in the arts are concerned about selling out, others look forward to it. It is not a matter of success, but you do with that success.

I never thought of the "Jimmy Buffett" brand as many of you are indicating here. I guess if I had to subscribe to some kind of brand, relaxing on Caribbean islands with beautiful women and exotic drinks would be the brand I'd subscribe to. Better than needing Tommy Hilfiger or the latest Nike shoes...

Americans aren't the only ones that like the beachlife atmosphere. The French have that famous song "Sea, $ex, and Sun" which is the Mediterranean view of the laid back beach life.

And frankly, how can you go wrong with the three S's. It's a winning combo the world over.

gmoney Jun 7th, 2010 05:58 PM

To all you parrothead haters:

"The weather is here, wish you were beautiful"

Ryan Jun 7th, 2010 06:03 PM

To be followed by dutiful and fruitaful in the 1st grade rhyming scheme lyrics.

"The weather is here, wish you were beautiful"

Well at least that Ivy League education did not go to waste.

gmoney Jun 8th, 2010 05:17 AM

Ryan and Adu, You don't like JB, that's obvious, but why do you feel the need to put down those that do? Do you get some sort of sick satisfaction by belittling those who have different tastes than you. You two must be a real joy to be around!

Sounds like you are in dire need of a boat drink and a real change in attitude. Of course your critical remarks re: rhyming songs may hold some water if you can direct us to the successful song lyrics you yourself have penned.

Steelersfan Jun 8th, 2010 02:50 PM

ps. that would be 'fruitiful' ;)

Well I have just purchased tickets to see Jimmy Saturday night in Camden NJ. I have wanted to see him for years and believe me the cost of the tickets is high ($136.00) per ticket, but they are great seats!!!

My biggest worry now is how to get my hands on a coconut bra and grass skirt before Saturday afternoon.

I will not accept any negative comments regarding this post because I know it will be an awesome time. Aloha Parrotheads.

Don't forget to throw-up!

Aloha, kona!
NJ still had tix left? Amazing! They sell out here in just about 10 minutes.
Give a shout out on Saturday, I'll be listening to radioMargaritaville, and I expect to hear you. We'll be at the concert five days after you.

kona514 Aug 3rd, 2010 06:57 AM

Steelersfan- yes NJ had exactly 9 tickets left yesterday when I looked. And of course when I went to buy them there were only single seats. BUT I waited for the page to refresh and got 2 seats together in section 101 which is great because lately I've been "on the lawn" for nearly every concert I've been to this summer.
I am 36 and have waited for over 10 years to get tickets as they usually sell out in seconds for his show.
So I'm excited and excited for you too. We will compare notes after your show.

DancingBearMD Aug 3rd, 2010 11:33 AM

Buffet was rejected in Nashville and by the big record labels, he hasn't had many "hit records", and doesn't get much airplay beyond Margaritaville, so he found a different way to make a living off of his music.

I'm a fan although I've not liked a lot of his recent music. But "Banana Republic" popped up on my Ipod this morning, and I don't think you can listen to that song (among others) and just dismiss everything he writes as mindless rhyming (although Jimmy himself has described songwriting as rhyming plenty of times).
