Its Freaky Friday Again! Any rants or raves?

Rush on Oxycontin?
No more telemarketers?
The Govenator?
Here's mine. I saw a story on CNN reporting that 11 of the top officials who represent the telemarketing industry and the legal fight to end the Do Not Call list have been found to be on the official Do Not Call list!!!

patg Oct 3rd, 2003 09:43 AM

Yes, and some of them denied knowing about it and said it was a prank. But, since getting on the list required a response by e-mail or phone, there is more to the story....

cassidy2002 Oct 3rd, 2003 09:45 AM

Why does that not suprise me?!!

Personally, I'm enjoying the Rush Limbaugh saga. After finding out he was on drugs, it makes more sense out of his political ravings. (All right, all right, I shouldn't have said that, I don't want to start a heated political discussion...sorry)

beachbum Oct 3rd, 2003 10:05 AM

Here's mine.

When the rest of the stadium is jammed, half the "premium" seats at last night's World Cup quarter-finals in Portland are empty. Worse yet, the stadium hires monitors to make sure the seats stay that way.

Austin Oct 3rd, 2003 10:38 AM

Just a bit ago I caught part of Rush's discussion on the ESPN comments. He blames - drum roll please...The liberal sports press for the hoopla over his comments. :-S

Scarlett Oct 3rd, 2003 10:45 AM

Re: Rush and his drug source-
Why do these people have household help that get drugs for them when mine won't even iron for me ??

Austin Oct 3rd, 2003 11:01 AM

LOL Scarlett... Probably because OxyContin is what..$40 a pill? and shirts get ironed for about 50 cents a pop.

cassidy2002 Oct 3rd, 2003 11:04 AM

Scarlett, you crack me up!!
Austin, I NEVER would have saw that coming ;-)

Speaking of drugs, Courtney Love is the last person I would've expected to get busted on a B and E and then proceeds to OD. She seems like such a nice, level-headed girl.

Smilingstill Oct 3rd, 2003 11:10 AM

... and mine: today has been the official smiles day - have you smiled at anyone? Am I the only person who heard NPR announce this morning? Was I possibly having a coffee reaction and misunderstood?

... and finally, Rush. I want to see him on the next Survivor, perhaps a diversity version. He's slimmed down now, which makes his red no-neck more obvious than ever. ESPN! And he was considered for Monday Night Football.

Little_Man Oct 3rd, 2003 11:15 AM

I shouldn't get political, either, but...the next governor of California is an admirer of Hitler....and today is national smile day????

Smilingstill Oct 3rd, 2003 11:19 AM

... and his polls actually improved in California.

DawnCt Oct 3rd, 2003 11:28 AM

My gripe?? Liberals who are innocent until proven guilty and Conservatives who are guilty until they prove themselves innocent.

HelenZass Oct 3rd, 2003 11:32 AM

O, Dawn, dont be such a rightwinger.

cassidy2002 Oct 3rd, 2003 11:39 AM

Yep...obviously shoudl've kept politics out of it. A great example of a good thread going bad.

bmw732002 Oct 3rd, 2003 11:53 AM

My Gripe!

What the He-- happened to Summer! It was late to arrive, and beat a fast retreat!
Old man winter had the temp down to 36 Degrees last night in my part of New Jersey!
Yikes! Get me some of that 'free' Iraqi home heating oil...pronto!
John

OliveOyl Oct 3rd, 2003 12:32 PM

Helen's *ss, welcome back...oops too late, gone again. :lol

JackOneill Oct 3rd, 2003 12:38 PM

emoticons = reminds me of people who, in high school, dotted every "i" with a daisy, or a peace symbol. (I'm not dating myself, am I? . . . good.)
colored writing (okay, I like that, but I'm just jealous 'cause I don't know how to do it.)

leslie Oct 3rd, 2003 12:55 PM

Annoyed at my boyfriend's health club for discrimination. The club is hosting a party tonight at one of the new clubs in the Old Town (Wichita) and all members are invited for free (free food and beer from 7-9pm). Flyer said that members can bring a guest for free, but each non-member must bring a flyer (no biggie, I can copy it on the copier at my office) and bring a business card from the health club. So, my boyfriend goes to the health club and asks for a business card for me, and he's told that I can't come to the party - it's for singles (stag) only to mingle at. Okay, so we're a couple, but, technically we're still single (as in not married yet). So, we're not going (my boyfriend's decision), and now I have to make dinner tonight (I didn't plan anything).

KarenL Oct 3rd, 2003 01:14 PM

Packed NYC subway cars and metro north trains for the Friday exit to the burbs.

My peak hour metro north trains are always two cars short (and many times also having a car whose air condition/heat doesn't work), causing many people to stand all the way to their stations.

And for this we are paying 15% more???

I Love NY.

buttercup Oct 3rd, 2003 02:40 PM

Rant - I agree with bmw - summer went too fast hear in the Midwest also, and I wish we had more days with temps in the 60's.

Rave - We might get warmer days yet here. AND - we had a freeze last night which killed those annoying undersized bees that hover around picnics like flies.

Birdie Oct 3rd, 2003 03:26 PM

Rave: We love all the out-of-town power people and tree removers who have come to help us after Isabel.
Rant: But we hate the way some of them are driving. Cutting people off, not using turn signals, zooming through redlights, etc. Yes, I know that is standard practice in Philly, Boston, and NYC but these people were from the south.

nataliemm Oct 3rd, 2003 03:46 PM

Not just Rush, but Courtney Love was arrested & hospitilized while being under the influence of narcotics. Elle McPhearson is in rehab. Halle Berry's now ex husband is a sex addict. For being famous and having so much $$ their lives don't seem to be going so well!

beanbag Oct 3rd, 2003 03:56 PM

Oh no, Not that babe Elle?

Paul Oct 3rd, 2003 04:49 PM

Damn I love CA, but the residents aren't really going to be that stupid, are they?

mrwunrfl Oct 3rd, 2003 06:18 PM

Ticked me off when I didn't find this post last week until it was 00:20 Saturday morning. Really whacks me way to heck when I see posts here that make broad statements about whole groups of people based on the actions of a few and other posts where people seem to know what other people are thinking or should be thinking.

Was that you going only 60 mph at rush hour this morning on the Capital Beltway? In the left lane. :( What were you thinking? There are no tourist sites on the beltway, so you shouldn't have been there at that time. You almost got us both killed by being so 'careful'. jeezmaneez

kalena Oct 3rd, 2003 06:38 PM

Just to clarify, Herr Gropenfrauer's poll numbers that were quoted today predate yesterday's disclosures.

Jackie Oct 3rd, 2003 06:45 PM

I was thinking about my trip to Belize in July (cayo area) and wondering how I could get a group together to go back when I went into Fodors and discovered this thread. You guys are way too political.

Scarlett Oct 3rd, 2003 07:44 PM

I have just a small rant..perhaps a rantlet?
It irritates me to no end when a some passive/aggressive person posts something bitchy or nasty then ends it with LOL..sort of like Smiling while spitting on you.
Anyone else hate that?
Rave:
Summer might be gone but it has been a gorgeous week of fall here!

dln Oct 3rd, 2003 08:05 PM

I will slip in a little rant while it is still Friday! I hate it when people treat this place like a chat room. You know they're not going anywhere, haven't been anywhere, but they like to talk...doesn't matter about what as long as it's chitchat. This is a travel forum, for goodness sakes, not a coffee klatch!

Rave: for those who invite us into their conversations...about travel, and enrich us for it.

Scarlett Oct 4th, 2003 06:01 AM

Well, I for one, feel at home here and view most Fodorites as friends. So in a way, it is a large chat room of friends who have Travel in common.
Where it kind of goes off track is when some use these forums to attack other posters for personal reasons.
Was the "Where are you traveling" my post ? Wasn't that about Travel?
I know I did ask Who was Going Where When, I thought it was a fun thread seeing where the rest of the Fodors World was off to.
Of course, we all have the right to not post on a thread if it bothers us, it is the sneak attacks that irk me..
OK, that is my Saturday rant :D

nataliemm Oct 4th, 2003 06:34 AM

But didn't the "where are you traveling" thread turn into a personal attack when someone accused other posters of lying? It's just that some people complain of things they themselves are guilty of (not meaning you Scarlett). And that's my rant! Don't mean anything by it.

Marilyn Oct 4th, 2003 08:47 AM

Rave: the internet! I have not yet lost my sense of amazement that we can talk to each other, virtually simultaneously, across the planet, and for free, no less!

Last night I sent an email to an old friend with whom I have lost contact. She has been living in India for 20 years. I came across her married name and address scribbled on an ancient scrap of paper, googled her, did a little digging, and damn if I didn't find her!!

Ryan Oct 4th, 2003 10:10 AM

RAVE: Mike Meyer's Stuart Mackenzie character from "So I Married an Axe Murderer" is one the classic unsung movie characters of all-time. I'm still waiting for a movie just about that character. "If it's not Scottish it's cr*p."

jor Oct 6th, 2003 07:08 PM

Yes, Arnold is going to win. He doesn't have a clue about what he has done in the past and doesn't have a clue about how to run Cowefonia. Give this loser a chance at running the state for a few weeks than give him the ol' Recall.

Travelsmiles Oct 7th, 2003 05:26 AM

Oh, yes, rants galore. How interesting.

dln - my, my, that chat room thing - yes, how awful.

And yes, ending with an LOL, how terrible - and can you believe some even add green faces to theirs? Oh, you're so right. Green signifies what .... oh.

And the chits chats when you know those chatterers don't travel beyond their keyboards. Oh so grim.

And, nataliemm, the claims about lying - gasp, but surely you weren't thinking hypocrisy! I know you didn't mean anything by that.

It's all about travel here, always. How could anyone suggest otherwise. I can hardly wait for this week's update on RnRs.

Ryan Oct 10th, 2003 10:57 AM

By my clock, it's Friday.

Rant: To the guy on the Continental airlines flight from Newark to San Fran last night, LOOK AT YOUR TICKET NEXT TIME. Instead of screaming at my wife to "get out of your seat" and threatening violence on the flight crew, maybe you should be smart enough to realize that when you change flights on a connection, YOUR SEAT CHANGES!

Paul Oct 10th, 2003 11:01 AM

I had a big lunch today and "feel fat."

;-)

Ryan Oct 10th, 2003 11:05 AM

Uh oh. Perhaps you should divulge your crime on the "How'd we get so fat?" post.

PamSF Oct 10th, 2003 02:27 PM

California on Aahnold..and the future political implications..his advisory board as published in the SF Chronicle this am is more alarming than the fact of The Terminator as governor.

The Viagra ads that continue to plague our e mail since SBC took over despite all attempts on our part to have them"deflated"!

The on-going hunt for Weapons of Mass Destruction.

The fact that there are still homeless people in the US, folks with no health care insurance and children who go to bed hungry!

Kal Oct 10th, 2003 04:13 PM

PamSF,
Viagra ads that keep "popping up". #-O

RANT: All sorts of poop hitting the fan today and right before I'm leaving for a week. X(
"And your last minute call is now my emergency becauuussse..."?

RAVE: It's 5:00 somewhere.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 12:00 PM.
