items left behind in "nice" hotel rooms
 

I've been trying to think of a way to put this little incident into a post,and now I have. : )

What is the most unexpected item you've found in a "nice" hotel room that somehow wasn't noticed by the housekeeping service when they cleaned the room?

When my husband and I went to San Diego last fall, we stayed in a beautiful Westin downtown. While idly checking everything out, I opened my bedside drawer, and there was a bottle of "personal lubricant" (which had been opened) and two unused condoms. I said to my husband "OMG! Look at this!" and he was surprisingly nonchalant about it, saying "just shut the drawer and forget about it." Actually, I was a little annoyed at his attitude, making me wonder why he seemed so sympathetic toward the guy who left his paraphernalia behind. !!
I wasn't upset about it, but thought it was really funny and of course I had to blab about it to the concierge, who looked horrified and said "we'll have the room cleaned immediately" (we were on our way out).

When we returned, we got a call from the front desk asking if someone could come up and speak with us. A serious-looking man in a suit was soon at the door. He apologized and said that our room bill would be taken care of. We explained that our room was being paid for by my husband's employer, at which point he gave us a voucher for a free dinner in the dining room. The staff seemed very concerned about the whole incident, although my husband just rolled his eyes and pronounced it "a big deal over nothing" when I told the concierge (who, by the way, "clutched" her heart in horror at the story).

How do you know it was a guy...???

Well I know I would do what I am doing right now ROFL. At my age nothing shocks or upsets me. But DH and I do alot of traveling and always in motels/hotels and have never found anything out of place. And if we should ever, I guess unless it was a unmade bed, or the bathroom unclean I would choose to close the drawer and forget it.

Vicki, if I found that stuff in a hotel room, I would probably think it was an amenitiy, such as free shampoo or soap!! :-))

One time we were in a very quaint little Scottish B&B. I dropped something on the floor and when I stooped down to pick it up, I found a pair of men's socks and a porno magazine. My husband wasn't interested in the socks, but he did take home the magazine as a souvenier. That's OK, free souveniers are hard to find!! LOL

Well, actually, I DID think for a moment that the Westin provided condoms. But, when I saw the bottle, I thought "this can't be right." hahah

p.s. yes, I suppose the items COULD have been left behind by a woman, but don't you think the chances are greater that it was a guy?

Wouldn't you guess the chances are greatest that the items were left behind by at least two people, at least one of which was a man? ;)

No - I would assume it was a couple - much more likely they would be using the lubricant and condom than a single guy.

Isn't it annoying - somebody always forgets his/her bible in the night stand draw? What about all these people?

All I saw over the years - my children once pulled a shirt from behind the TV stand.

I don't check the drawers as I don't use them. From now on I will. Maybe some day I can get lucky ;)

I know - I always feel bad for those poor people who forget their bibles in hotels.

Huh! So THATS where I left that stuff!

Not to gross you out but my father in law once found a used condom on the floor. It was "hidden" under a bed spread that drapped on to the floor. Maybe we should do a question "What's the grossest item ever found in a room?"

The only time I've ever seen gay porn was when it was left behind in a room at a very nice hotel in Austin, Texas.

Vicki, how funny! At least they weren't used. Which makes me wonder if they went au natural? or had three originally since the personal lubricant was opened?? LOL!! It was nice that you had a dinner on the Westin. :)

We have never found anything except all of those bibles!!!and Mormon books!

I once found a chamber pot under a bed in a B&B in England. That's the unusual part. The GGROSS part was that it was full!

Last year I attended a photography workshop in a small town in South Texas. There were 2 motels to choose from and I chose the one that did not rent rooms by the hour. The room was $35 or $40 a night.

There was a light above the sink, another in the toilet/bathroom and another in the one lamp beside the bed. That one must have had a 25 or 30 watt bulb because it was really dark in the room. I removed the shade every evening so it would be a little less dark. It didn't help much.

When I told the other people in the workshop how dark it was, they told me what happened the previous year. The group of them met in one of the participant's room and some sat on the bed and some sat on the floor. It was pretty dark in that room also. After they had been sitting there awhile, one of them noticed something laying on the floor. They all looked at it and it was a ponytail of hair! Someone had their hair in a ponytail and it had been cut off and left in the room. The maid service??? didn't find it. How gross is that?

After I heard that story, I wished I travelled with my own bedsheets and pillows.
