" saw an article in the paper just a few days ago about how the airline flight attendants can't travel with any makeup either. Since they don't check bags, but only do carry on, they are mainly going without mascara, eyeshadow, etc"

The article was WRONG. FAs are deemed to be MUCH more trustworthy then you and I, they can bring on thier makeup, thier water, thier coffee etc. That water they buy in the airport does not aquire magically DANGEROUS qualities as does the water you carry on.... That exception ALONE invalidated the ENTIRE "control" but the TSA beleives that "knee jerk" is wonderful!

IDIOTS are running this operation and WE are letting them...

As to the OP, find a FA and get him/her to get your contraband on board (I doubt it would work, but...)

I have had no trouble with samples, either. Mostly foil blister packs.
AND for my flight yesterday, I squirted handlotion on damp paper towels, folded them and slipped them into a ziploc. Yay! Now I have my wonderful hand lotion to use after I wash my hands.
Single use wet ones are OK.
Powder foundation, eye shadow and cake liner/mascara are OK.

Okay, help me with this one: face cream with sunscreen in it. How do I do a carry one produce for that. If I can solve this one I'm home free!

SharonG Sep 19th, 2006 04:32 PM

I meant "product" not produce. Though I suppose I could carry on an avocado and squish that on my face!

starrsville Sep 19th, 2006 04:34 PM

SharonG, THAT would work! Food is allowed! And, avocados are supposedly good for the skin. And, you could leave a slice jauntily positioned over your nose (kind of like zinc or BullFrog sunscreen)!

Scarlett Sep 19th, 2006 04:38 PM

Sharon, I am gonna do that. I will just carry a couple of avacados along on the trip...cut them in half, with my fingernails I guess? no knives allowed, then smash them on my face.
I imagine the attendants will take this calmly ,understanding the need for moist soft skin whatever the Airline restrictions..
Clinique City Base make up has 15 or 18 sunblock and comes in a solid "pancake" style that hopefully will pass inspection..

I just found this and it has lots of suggestions for "allowable" cosmetics including Cetaphil in a bar format; cake mascara, perfume solid etc.

Hope this helps...

Ladies.. if say, six gals bring produce, one could have a healthy salad while enroute.. potato slices, tea bags(under eyes), cucumbers, gosh, even oliive oil dressing mixed with salt or sugar makes a swell exfoliant..

Welcome to Femme Airlines..

don't forget dessert, the papaya and pineapple are all worth some great skin properties too.

((*))Now, for the finale, we take our limes and coconuts and drink em all up((Y))

starrsville Sep 19th, 2006 05:10 PM

jetty, you are absolutely fabulous!
AND, absolutely fabulously funny!

SharonG Sep 19th, 2006 05:12 PM

See, I just knew a group of smart (aleck?) women could figure this stuff out. Bring on the guacomole senoritas.

SharonG Sep 19th, 2006 05:14 PM

Debit, that is a great website. Thanks.

no matter what the restrictions are the terrorists have won. They get to screw up our lives and they get excited over it. Meanwhile our borders are wide open with any Latin American w/weapons/drugs whatever can get over the border.

Where is Faux St. Marie?

hester Sep 19th, 2006 06:06 PM

We were at the Newark airport in late August. I bought diet cokes at the store by our gate, the clerk made me give her the caps to the soda. She said it was a new rule, to make sure you couldn't sneak them on. I carried the sodas back to my daughter hoping not to drop them. Boy, they probably would have came after me for that!

canterbury Sep 19th, 2006 06:18 PM

hester - that's a new one! I suppose the next step is watch one drink the entire soda in front of TSA...

tekwriter -

You've already made your trip, but in the future you may consider taking a makeup palette as some suggest here. I've been doing it for years, just to save space.

I use a MAC palette and have taken out the colors I don't like and replaced them with a bit of stick foundation, "pot" concealer, lip balm, eye brow wax, and a bit of Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand creme - mix with a drop of water and I had enough to go LAX-JFK and back. I place a bit of waxed paper over the "additions" to keep them fresh.

It's small, slim, lightweight and you have all your makeup with you except mascara. I now bring a cake mascara.

starrsy, sharonG and all other girly gals~ awww shucks.. just finding a moment of silliness on a stormy Tuesday;)

really, you have to laugh thinking of all the clever ways to stay fresh and yet suitable for public appearance..pride and dignity are very appropriate in these confusing times, with or without wine, I might add.

Maybe we could market a new line of skin products using our wits.. I'm also thinking uing a charcoal art pencil in lieu of liner(though over 35, it becomes too harsh, so let's let that one go).

Howzabout Flyface One.. foundation could be Xtra Mileage, there could be Mile High mascara in a cake form(you wet it with water once onboard)....
here's one... a toner for mature skin called Saggage Claim, Seatback Satin hand cream, well, you get the idea..

actually, alcohol has antiseptic properties.. the dilemna however, is whether one wants to smell of gin, rum, tequila or whiskey when deplaning..

**I say swallow the worm as a diet aid, and remain ever so svelte in your Madonna purple leotard once you reach cruising altitude..;) your comtrade in alternative skincare, J.
