Is it SNOWING Yet ?

Latest forecast here in NYC is 1 to 2 feet of snow starting tonight through all day tomorrow. Largest snowfall forecast in years. How much snow do you have now or what's predicted?

methinks Feb 16th, 2003 08:58 AM

Well, I just looked out the window, no snow yet.

Patrick Feb 16th, 2003 09:07 AM

It's currently 82 here in Naples, Florida. I think I can safely assume no snow today.

melh Feb 16th, 2003 09:22 AM

YES! In central Ohio, more than 7 inches yesterday, and it is snowing hard again today...probably an additional 4 inches so far. Forecast shows continued snow during the day and overnight!

A foot of fresh powder at Durango Mountain Resort on Thursday, and dense clouds mean more on the way. Durango itself just got rain, which kept the roads clear, but didn't make things look pretty.

I just returned home in Philly suburbs from souther N.J. It began snowing at 8 a.m. this a.m. Several inches by the time I left. Came home, a 45 minute drive and no snow. Just now it is moving this way. A very slow moving system I would say. Let it snow, let it snow. I think I will be here on Fodors tomorrow--without a doubt!! SNOW DAY!
PLEASE!! Send it our way. Desperate for snow in NW Montana. Lawn looks ugly, ski area is hard packed and cross country trails in the woods are almost bare. Rain predicted for today, temp. approx. 36 degrees.
Too early for spring!!!

Here in Maryland we're expecting 24-30", probably one of the largest storms ever in this state.

It started this morning at about 5 a.m., and we have about 1 1/2' so far (maybe more; I haven't been outside to measure). It's supposed to snow for another 24 hours.

You "snow bunnies" can have it all. I'm sick of it.

BarbaraF Feb 16th, 2003 10:24 AM

Here in my section of Maryland (DC suburb) we've already got more than 12" (when last I shoveled, an hour ago) and its coming down so fast, we likely have 2" more than that by now. I think its downright scary -- our neighborhood never gets plowed, so we'll be snowed in for days. My teenagers are already going a little crazy. Thank goodness for digital cable.

My SO is in Statesvill,NC...stuck in ice storm, driving on 77 do you think he'll make it to Cleveland?

ronkala Feb 16th, 2003 12:01 PM

21 inches in Woodstock, Va at the nothern end of the Shennandoah Valley (I81), and it's still falling.

soccr Feb 16th, 2003 12:07 PM

Feel sorry for duh's SO -- not gonna make it -- look at the weather map. You don't want to be traversing the southern part of Ohio, Indiana, let alone dealing with what the Carolinas are getting.

We in the Triangle area of NC are getting a disgusting mix of sleet and freezing rain, but it looks like the Triad is getting it even worse. Was bad in December, and we're just hoping the power companies are ready for this.

Believe me, I'd rather have a foot of snow than 1/2" ice. For one thing, you tend not to have power lines go down and trees fall on your house with snow.
I'm in central Ohio and was whining pretty loudly about the weather until I saw what was happening further to the east/north. Now I just hope this crap is over with soon EVERYWHERE!!!

ilisa Feb 16th, 2003 12:21 PM

I'm also in the MD suburbs and shoveled about a foot and a half around 1:00. It's quickly being filled in. The snow isn't supposed to stop until midday tomorrow. I have a 1 year old and 3 1/2 year old who are bouncing off the walls. And now looking outside, I see my minivan covered in snow and plowed in (by the plow that came around at 8:00am). I dread digging it out.

margot55 Feb 16th, 2003 12:24 PM

Here in Edison, NJ. snow has started and is fast and furious now. They're talking about 1" per hour accumulations. Went out to my local supermarket earlier in the day and met with a stampede of other customers stocking up, preparing either for snowfall, chemical/biological warfare, or both!

soccr Feb 16th, 2003 12:34 PM

To tell you the honest truth, I still had some duct tape and plastic sheeting I used to cover some windows during the last ice storm to keep in what little heat we could get from our fireplace.

Parents, aren't you glad that in most areas this is winter vacation for the kids? At least there won't be any snow days.

howitzer Feb 16th, 2003 02:44 PM

For me, here in Philly, it brings a nice evening free of noise of car and air traffic. The blurring of the lines between road and yard make it seem more like a country landscape viewed from my picture window..
Yes, when its over, Ill be out there shoveling, but it will reconnect me with my neighbors, many of whom have been busy running with scissors after duct tape and plastic sheeting. Like a soothing blanket from mom...telling us...calm down...set anxiety aside.. set forth with new footprints. this snowstorm brings renewal. Perhaps a sign?

methinks Feb 16th, 2003 03:22 PM

yep, its snowing

Frank Feb 16th, 2003 03:28 PM

It started snowing here in Manhattan about an hour ago, just a dusting so far.
