Is it SNOWING Yet ?
Latest forecast here in NYC is 1 to 2 feet of snow starting tonight through all day tomorrow. Largest snowfall forecast in years. How much snow do you have now or what's predicted?
Well, I just looked out the window, no snow yet.
It's currently 82 here in Naples, Florida. I think I can safely assume no snow today.
YES! In central Ohio, more than 7 inches yesterday, and it is snowing hard again today...probably an additional 4 inches so far. Forecast shows continued snow during the day and overnight!
A foot of fresh powder at Durango Mountain Resort on Thursday, and dense clouds mean more on the way. Durango itself just got rain, which kept the roads clear, but didn't make things look pretty.
I just returned home in Philly suburbs from souther N.J. It began snowing at 8 a.m. this a.m. Several inches by the time I left. Came home, a 45 minute drive and no snow. Just now it is moving this way. A very slow moving system I would say. Let it snow, let it snow. I think I will be here on Fodors tomorrow--without a doubt!! SNOW DAY!
PLEASE!! Send it our way. Desperate for snow in NW Montana. Lawn looks ugly, ski area is hard packed and cross country trails in the woods are almost bare. Rain predicted for today, temp. approx. 36 degrees.
Too early for spring!!!
Here in Maryland we're expecting 24-30", probably one of the largest storms ever in this state.

It started this morning at about 5 a.m., and we have about 1 1/2' so far (maybe more; I haven't been outside to measure). It's supposed to snow for another 24 hours.

You "snow bunnies" can have it all. I'm sick of it.
Here in my section of Maryland (DC suburb) we've already got more than 12" (when last I shoveled, an hour ago) and its coming down so fast, we likely have 2" more than that by now. I think its downright scary -- our neighborhood never gets plowed, so we'll be snowed in for days. My teenagers are already going a little crazy. Thank goodness for digital cable.
My SO is in Statesvill,NC...stuck in ice storm, driving on 77 do you think he'll make it to Cleveland?
21 inches in Woodstock, Va at the nothern end of the Shennandoah Valley (I81), and it's still falling.
Feel sorry for duh's SO -- not gonna make it -- look at the weather map. You don't want to be traversing the southern part of Ohio, Indiana, let alone dealing with what the Carolinas are getting.

We in the Triangle area of NC are getting a disgusting mix of sleet and freezing rain, but it looks like the Triad is getting it even worse. Was bad in December, and we're just hoping the power companies are ready for this.

Believe me, I'd rather have a foot of snow than 1/2" ice. For one thing, you tend not to have power lines go down and trees fall on your house with snow.
I'm in central Ohio and was whining pretty loudly about the weather until I saw what was happening further to the east/north. Now I just hope this crap is over with soon EVERYWHERE!!!
I'm also in the MD suburbs and shoveled about a foot and a half around 1:00. It's quickly being filled in. The snow isn't supposed to stop until midday tomorrow. I have a 1 year old and 3 1/2 year old who are bouncing off the walls. And now looking outside, I see my minivan covered in snow and plowed in (by the plow that came around at 8:00am). I dread digging it out.
Here in Edison, NJ. snow has started and is fast and furious now. They're talking about 1" per hour accumulations. Went out to my local supermarket earlier in the day and met with a stampede of other customers stocking up, preparing either for snowfall, chemical/biological warfare, or both!
To tell you the honest truth, I still had some duct tape and plastic sheeting I used to cover some windows during the last ice storm to keep in what little heat we could get from our fireplace.
Parents, aren't you glad that in most areas this is winter vacation for the kids? At least there won't be any snow days.
For me, here in Philly, it brings a nice evening free of noise of car and air traffic. The blurring of the lines between road and yard make it seem more like a country landscape viewed from my picture window..
Yes, when its over, Ill be out there shoveling, but it will reconnect me with my neighbors, many of whom have been busy running with scissors after duct tape and plastic sheeting. Like a soothing blanket from mom...telling us...calm down...set anxiety aside.. set forth with new footprints. this snowstorm brings renewal. Perhaps a sign?
yep, its snowing
It started snowing here in Manhattan about an hour ago, just a dusting so far.
As a resident of Ohio for 48 years, I can happily announce I am spending this winter in South Texas. 8-) If I get homesick I look at the white sand, pretend it's snow, turn the a/c down a notch or two for effect and make some cocoa....
Don't ya just love Manhattan when it snows like this, the city is so quiet and you can walk down the middle of the street and not even hear thecabs. By Tuesday it will be a yucky, brown mess, but until then .... :)
Yea CF but we all get a snow day tomorrow here in the Buckeye State. Even the Ohio State University is closed. Hot Chocolate, fire in the fireplace, sledding, the quietness of walking through the snow. It doesn't get much better than this in my book.
well, we've been waiting and waiting and finally I can look out the window and see...NOTHING, i mean it IS snowing and there is no visibility so finally the weatherman is right, the local Whole Foods was crazy at noon, (and no snow) no shopping carts to be found, not even the arm held ones, and the check out lines went down the aisles, they're predicting 12-18" and it could be pretty, got to find that black and white film and hope the dogs don't want to go out!
So sick of all this snow.

We were supposed to be heading to Florida from Boston with a stop in Newark tomorrow morning but it looks as if it won't happen. We were in the same snowboat at Christmas - on the plane, ready to go and then our flight was cancelled. I guess our plans for tomorrow are up in the air in more ways than one!

I am assuming that Newark is closed, so could someone in the Newark area post here if and when the airport is open for flights?
Here in north wildwood (south of atlantic city, north of cape may), we got 18 inches..my home is on the bay,and man did that wind howl all night!the snow changed over to sleet/rain about 4:00 a.m. we are now awaiting some tidal flooding ,and beach erosion.... i will venture out a little later to inspect the damage, and take pictures...one bright thing i got going for me is iam driving to key west as soon as the roads are declared safe...i love the jersey shore, but ill never spend another winter here!!
NYC reporting here. Lots of snow and it will snow all day. It's beautiful because it hasn't been spoiled yet by city life! My dog loved running and playing in it this morning! ENJOY!!!!!

TO MARIANNA: Newark airport is actually open -- but there are no flights leaving -- that's what the local news reports.
I'd say there's at least a foot on the ground where I am in central New Jersey, with another foot or so expected to fall during the day. I can't even open my front door because of the drifts. It does look beautiful though, and since I don't have to go anywhere today, let it snow.
Thank you, Trover, and have fun in the snow with your dog. It is pretty and can be enjoyable when you don't have to (really want to) travel somewhere. It is now snowing in my area north of Boston.
We left Annapolis MD at 6 pm on Friday. We are now in sunny Longboat Key Fl and the weather is pleasant and warm. Can you imagine how surprised we are to see all this snow up there now! Our friends have been calling telling us all that we've missed!! Hah - on the lat big one in 96' we got stuck in Springfield Virginia and had to stay in a motel watching the tieup on the beltway. Thanks but I like it better on this trip.
Advice from those of us who live in snowy cities-grab a bottle of wine, a cup of hot cocoa, or whatever it is you like, watch a good movie, read a good book, play board games with your family, cook up a storm, and wait for it to stop snowing. No reason to go out driving-that's when people get killed or die. Appreciate what you have, your friends, family and neighbors and find creative things to do to pass the time. I bet there will be a lot of babies born next November. by the way, although we've had at least 100" of snow this season, we missed this storm here in western new york.
When my Pup went out this morning, he sank to his belly in the snow. If dogs can have puzzled looks on their faces, he had one!
I am happy to stay in and be warm today! So far over a foot, going to be about 2 feet I hear. Brrrrrrrr~
I learned during the blizzard of 96 that I need to dig a path for my Lab before she would venture out in belly-deep snow. In fact, I am more diligent in keeping her path free of snow than I am about my driveway. At first I cleared a linear path, and cleared it several times during the day. Then later I created several forks in the path, so she would have a little variety in her wanderings (2.5 - 3 ft drifts in our yard). Its the least I can do in exchange for her unconditional love!
Can't resist adding to dog-in-snow stories: had a basset hound when we lived near Chicago and had to do same thing as BarbaraF -- clear at least one and preferably 2-3 paths for her. If the snow was higher than about a foot, it was hysterically funny to see nothing other than the wagging tail out in the back yard. If it was loosely packed and less than a foot, it was also very funny to see her disappear into the snow pack and then bounce out in a burst of snow, like a big, overstuffed rabbit with drooping ears.

We also entertained our neighbors considerably when the basset got older and was less tolerant of cold and frozen snow clumbs on her paws: we made a coat out of an old blanket and then rigged "boots" out of socks with rubber lid-twister-off'er pads, held up with kid's suspenders tucked under the blanket-coat.

Now we live in the south and have a cat -- not nearly so diverting.
You are a typical New Yorker! Whenever anything happens in New York you expect the entire country to know about it.

When we had over 100 inches inches of snow with high winds and deaths in Fargo a few years ago with home cave-ins, It wasn't on national broadcasts.

NYer's whine and everybody has to listen to it. Quit whining.
Wow Ren, having a bad day, are you?
If you read any of these replies, you will notice that people in Ohio, Pa, and DC are also contributing to a thread about snow.
Maybe you should go take a nap and wake up in a better mood, or move out of ND, might make you a more cheerful person.
Buckeyemom...there is something about the sound of the surf crashing on the shore tho.....I call home and my dad tells me how much more snow there is and I just can't get upset over missing it. (I did miss fall tho..the trees turning and all...)
