Immediate Assistance in Kansas

This isn't travel related, but it is humanity related and I thought I would appeal to the Fodorite's of Kansas -

My mother and aunt were in a wreck this weekend on 400 hwy, 6 miles west of Fredonia. My aunt was killed. My mother has several serious injuries but by the grace of God, she lived.
(The wreck was caused by someone else driving wrecklessly...uninsured also...)

My mother is not only heart broken at the loss of her best friend, her sister...she had her dog with her too.

This is where my appeal for help comes in - The dog was seen running from the wreck site into the woods. She is a blonde colored, Shih Tzu and answers to the name of Deja.
This little dog was like a child to my mother. My mother can not get her sister back, but hopefully someone will read this and can help find her dog.

If anyone has been/or will be soon,in the vicinity of 400 hwy, 6 miles west of Fredonia, and has seen, or has Deja - please reply to this message ASAP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
God Bless
Kassanna

Oh goodness Kassanna what a terrible and sad story. I am in California so of course I cannot be of any help to you or your family. But I sure send my prayers and very best wishes that your mother's little Deja is found. Blessings to all of you!

Kassanna Jun 15th, 2006 06:23 PM

Thank you for your nice words. It has been amazing at how nice people are in the moments of tragedy. We never would've dreamed something like this would happen. But we just have faith that God has purpose for everything.

By the way, I hope to get to Italy one day. I don't think I should wait too long. Life is too precious. How many times have you been? I would love to hear your stories. It would be great to hear something positive right now.
Thank you - Kassanna

I would suggest getting in touch with the local Humane Society or the SPCA in the immediate area and see if they can be of any help.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this tragic time. God bless.

gracieb Jun 15th, 2006 07:50 PM

check www.petfinder.com for other local shelters and contact them.

Was she chipped?

kopp Jun 15th, 2006 07:59 PM

Dear Kassanna,

My heart goes out to you at this very sad time. Losing a family member this way must be difficult indeed. I am so very sorry.

I pray that your mother recovers fully from her physical injuries and that little Deja can be found so as to give her the comfort she needs.

Blessings to you and yours.

Saraho Jun 16th, 2006 06:30 AM

I am very sorry about your mother's accident and your aunt's death. Be sure to call the Humane Society or animal pound daily and put flyers and posters out with a photo or description of the dog- maybe with a reward offered. Also put an add in the lost and found column of the local paper. Call the local vets and give them flyers or a poster, too.

Our prayers are with you.

cmcfong Jun 16th, 2006 06:36 AM

How tragic and awful for all of you. You and your family are in my prayers. In addition to the resources you have seen, be sure and contact the local news media. Sometimes someone will see it and care enough to give this coverage.
God bless you.

Fodorite018 Jun 16th, 2006 06:46 AM

You and all your family are in my thoughts. Hopefully the news in that area is reporting about Deja so the people can be on the lookout as well.

Saraho Jun 16th, 2006 07:28 AM

Also read the pet lost and founds daily- sometimes people will list a dog they found.

Suerich68 Jun 16th, 2006 07:35 AM

Kassanna,

My sincere sympathies to your mother. I hope someone will locate her dog.

My thoughts & prayers are with you.

Kassanna Jun 16th, 2006 08:13 AM

Thank you all for your prayers and support. We have contacted radio, newspaper, animal shelters, etc....
and we may have good news...someone found a dog that fits Deja's discription. I am on my way to see her. It is a 3 hour drive for me but whatever I can do for my mom and Deja I will.
Please say a prayer it is her and that I have safe travel.
I will let you know when I get back if it is her.
Blessings to you all.
Kassanna

My sympathies and thoughts and prayers for you and your mother and your family.

Fodorite018 Jun 16th, 2006 08:33 AM

Oh that is very hopefull news!

spartanap Jun 16th, 2006 09:56 AM

The accident was probably worked by the Wilson County Sheriff's Office (along with the Kansas Highway Patrol). Contact them at (620)378-3622. They might be able to help.

Good Luck.

Kassanna,
I am so very sorry for this horrible incident. My heart goes out to you and your mom. My prayers for a speedy recovery and I hope that you come back successfully with Deja.

Rachel Jun 16th, 2006 12:11 PM

I'm so sorry about your aunt, your mom, and your mom's dog. I hope you find the dog and that she helps you and your mom get through all of this. After everything you mom has been through, hopefully her fate will be that at least her pup will be there for her. She can also be thankful for her thoughful child.

amaclise Jun 16th, 2006 03:46 PM

Tell us! Is Deja found?

LoveItaly Jun 16th, 2006 04:46 PM

Dear Kassanna, I too pray that the little dog that was found is your Deja. Please post back. And after this trauma has passed and you have been able to relax and get over all of this do post on the Europe Board. You will receive lots of information about beautiful Italy.

I hope that your mother is recovering and that you will take good care of yourself so that you can handle all the stress you have right now without becoming ill. Hugs to you and prayers to you and all of your family.

kopp Jun 17th, 2006 05:14 AM

Any updates, Kassanna? I can't stop thinking of that sweet little dog searching for its owner just as you are searching for it.

And please let your mother know she is being prayed for.

cmt Jun 17th, 2006 08:24 AM

I hope your mother makes a good recovery, and I'm sorry about your aunt's death. I would be desperate if my dog were missing, so I hope mother and Deja are reunited very soon if they have not been already.

Someone posted this on the DogPark forum for you. http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum....tag=ab-dogs#a1

If the dog you went to see yesterday was your mother's dog, please let us know. (Maybe we shouldn't keep spreading this request for help until we know whether the dog is actually still missing. But if he's still missing, one of us can post this on the Cats forum as well ( http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum....&nav=start ), because it's extremely active with people from all over, many of whom also love dogs.)

Hi Everyone -
I'm sorry I didn't have access to the internet after I went to Fredonia to see if they had Deja... it was not her.
We still have not received any word that they have found her, although I have heard that the Wichita radio station put together a group to search for her. I heard that 50 people have been involved in trying to find our little Deja. We are still praying.

I spent the weekend with my mom, trying to help her recoup. Her bruises are healing but her concussion is quite troubling. She picked up Deja's back pack and started crying (we had a little back pack for her, for her toys and doggie clothes). She misses her so much.

The dog that was at the vet's in Fredonia, was a white - Maltese mix I think. She had been starved and her hair was so matted you couldn't see her skin. I couldn't leave her there because I know the vet would've put her to sleep. So I took her to my mom.
I took her to the be groomed and they found mold and maggots. This little girl was in really really bad shape. The groomers took 5 hours to clean her up - and didn't charge us a dime!! I also took her to another vet and got her shots, and all her check up stuff. She is very anemic, but otherwise, as long as we can pull her out of that she will be fine. She is very loving, and house broke too. I was hoping that my mom would take care of this baby and help keep her mind off of Deja...
She isn't Deja, and we aren't giving up hope, but this little baby, Cee Cee, really needed someone to take her - (named that because when I picked her up she was as light as a puff of Cotton Candy).

We pray that someone will find Deja - there is a $1,000 reward too.

I thank everyone for there prayers, advice and additional postings to spread the word. We have found complete strangers helping us and showing compassion that I didn't even know existed.

Please continue to pray that we find Deja, and that my mom heals without complications.

If you would care to email her a message, I will print them and send them to her. Her name is Joyce.
[email protected]
Any words of support are so very welcome.

God Bless you all - and I hope we have good news soon.
Kassanna

Dear Kassana, I am so sorry you did not find Deja but you certainly found a pup in great need. Bless you for taking her in and the wonderful groomers who took the care and time to clean her up.

Prayers to you and your mom. May she heal quickly and I hope you find Deja. You certainly have a lot of people trying to make it happen. And I am so sorry about the loss of your aunt. Please keep us posted.

kopp Jun 18th, 2006 06:38 PM

Thank you, dear Kassanna, for keeping us posted. You are so kindhearted to rescue Cee Cee from a certain fate.

Miracles happen everyday. I will continue to pray for your mother and her precious dog. And also for you.

I am so sorry to read about your aunt and your mom. I do hope your mom will have a speedy recovery.

LoveItaly Jun 18th, 2006 07:37 PM

Hello Kassanna, my prayers are with you and your mother and your Deja as well as for your aunt.

Thank you for keeping us up to date. You must be so tired dear one. Blessings to all of those that are looking or trying to help to find your dear little Deja. And how loving that you took in the other little pup, and how special that others cleaned her up and took care of her. There are so many good people in the world.

My best wishes and hopes that you do find your precious Deja and also that your mother will recover properly. My very best to all of you.

kmpordagee Jun 18th, 2006 07:54 PM

I hope that you find Deja soon. All of us here in San Diego are pulling for you!

lindsyb Jun 19th, 2006 02:55 PM

I also wanted to express my sympathies to you on the death of your Aunt. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Mom for her recovery and also to find her beloved Deja. I'm glad you found little CC in your time of need as well as hers.

Kassanna Jun 19th, 2006 05:43 PM

Hi all - no word yet.
I am appealing to the local tv station -although I don't think they get the KC station in Fredonia, KS, I'm hoping that someone has a search and rescue dog. It just came to me that if they can track people, why can't they track other dogs? We could give the search dog one of Deja's little jackets or toys with her scent on it.
Anyway, its the last thing I can think of. I don't know if KCTV 5 will respond, but I'm hoping they will air something about this.
Also, just found out because the truck that hit them wasn't insured, my aunts and moms auto insurance are only paying $5,000 on the medical bills because its the same company. We are hoping that mom's medical ins. will pick up the rest. So keep praying. The last thing she needs is to have to worry about medical bills.
Sorry, I'm probably going into to much detail, but I really appreciate everyone's support and emails. It eases the stress of having to deal with this. Its nice to know there are people that care.
....I'll let you know if the tv station responds.
God Bless
Kassanna

Hello kassanna, I don't know what state your dear mother's and aunt's insurance is with..but in CA we have Uninsured Motorist coverage..that covers for this type of situation if the person responsible for the accident in not insured.

Hang in there..you sound like a really strong woman. But don't forget to take care of yourself while you go through all this trauma. Do eat properly and try to get a resonable amount of sleep, and perhaps try to get a few walks, that always helps with stress.
