I want the ultimate cabin away
 

I am willing to fly anywhere if I can find what I have spent months looking for. I want a little cabin, in the woods, with a creek nearby, something with surroundings so beautiful it makes you sigh. I don't want anybody else around for miles, just peace. I find myself wondering if the cabins in Thomas Kincaids paintings actually exist...any ideas? Websites to check out? Pictures?

The Little Blackfoot River Retreat may have the surroundings you describe. I would want to see more pictures of the interior of the house. It's not exactly a "cabin" in the sense I think of.

Are you talking about a cabin to buy or one to rent?

The most peaceful vacation I ever had was in Petersburg Alaska, Check the website for cabins they had several available. It is an island surrounded by water with lots of creeks, eagles and friendly locals with few tourists and few tourist attractions. I took a boat trip out to a glacier with only three other people and it was spectacular. Plenty of trails for hiking, scenic but not taxing. <BR><BR>I rented an apt. and was able to sit with hot cocoa in hand gazing out at the water.......

I've got what your looking for, unfortunately it isn't for rent or sale. I have a cabin on a river in Alabama (don't laugh), it is about 4 or 5 miles from the nearest house.<BR><BR>When I shut the truck door, I know that is the last sound of civilization I'll hear until I turn on a radio or start my car. My cabin is on a bluff overlooking the Conecuh River situated on 160 acres I acquired many, many years ago. In addition to the cabin, there is a small pond (3-4 acres) on site which is spring fed and crystal clear. I have two aunts that were baptised in that pond. It is literally known in the area as "Clear Pond."<BR><BR>No for the bad part. I have no indoor plumbing. I do have a hand crank pump and an outhouse. All the lights are run via a battery which is charged with solar panels... I rarely go in the summer, but when I do, I have a small Honda generator and a window ac unit to cool things down.<BR><BR>A LOT of people want to "stay in a cabin in the woods" but when the rubber meets the road, most aren't willing to make the sacrifice that a remote cabin requires, IE no full time electricity and no running water...<BR><BR>Bathing in the winter is challenging to say the least.<BR><BR>Stressed, I am not saying you wouldn't be willing to make the sacrifices for a cabin in a remote location, but many haven't a clue what it is like to go a day without running water or electricity..much less a week or so.<BR><BR>RC

I am more than willing to bypass electricity and plumbing, I have done so before and have no problems with it at all.

I would second the idea for Alaska! Check out Homer Alaska. The area is beautiful.

As I type I'm looking out over a mountain vista with a beautiful sky, wispy clouds and slight breeze, temperature in mid 70's. Just a little while ago a hawk was floating with the breeze right above the cabin. Right after that a family of turkey meandered by. The only sounds I hear are the birds and squirrels playing. Off in distance I hear an occasional train whistle. The nearest neighbor is miles away and probably at work anyhow. Tonight will cool to around 55 degrees and I will sleep comfortably. With the sunrise I plan to hike over the ridge here down a trail about .5 miles to a small waterfall. The peace there can be magic. The sound of falling water is a high that is so natural. On my way back I'll stop to gaze at a scene that can best be described as "pure heaven on earth". Stressed, if you can guess where I am I'll let you experience this oasis free of charge for a week!!

I would love to guess where your at, but as there are hundreds of places like that, I couldn't begin. I live in Oregon and can be an hour away from the same scene. To me, there is no place on earth more peacful than the columbia river gorge, but I am anxious to be proved wrong.

I stayed in a cabin in the mt. hood national forest and it was great. I don't remember the web site, but just do a search and you should find it. I know since your close to there, it may work out great. We paid only 120 a night for a 3 bed cabin with a hot tub overlooking a creek. It was amazing!

I have to agree with Alaska. One of the places we loved was Halibut Cove. Try: http://www.sadiecove.com/ A beautiful place near Halibut Cove and 10 miles from Homer Alaska. These islands can only be reached by boat or float plane. Absolutely breathtaking.

I have been told that you can rent cabins in the national park in Maui. That should be beautiful. I think it is also inexpensive.

How about around Cade's Cove near Gatlinburg, TN? My brother goes there every year several times just to get away. I'm sure near there must be some isolated places where you don't get hit with the crowds.
