I saw mine a few years ago but it's since 'gone missing.' Am sure they're worth a pretty penny on Ebay :-)

If I remember correctly, Rex was instrumental in getting the Fodor's editors to issue the limited number of pins to those who asked for them. Here's a URL from 2001 with some historical info:

Folks, setting aside the screen name, this post is genuine. We care.

Ok, so after donating to my charity of choice, I couldn't sit still. I wanted to go and offer help directly, but that wasn't feasable.

Instead, I have done the only thing I know I can do quickly and effectively...build a website!

I have created a Hurricane Family Help portal located at http://www.hurricanefamilyhelp.org

1st things 1st - we DO NOT accept donations.

Here is the stated purpose:

1) To unite displaced individuals and families of hurricane Katrina with others willing to offer immediate SHORT TERM shelter.

2) To unite displaced individuals and families of hurricane Katrina with others willing to offer LONG TERM shelter.

3) To unite the survivors with family and friends.

4) To find full or part time employment opportunities for hurricane victims.

5) To provide contact information for charities, communities, and churches offering assistance.

Thank you,
Craig

icee, my buddy kalena (who apparently does not post anymore!) improvised her fodors pin with a blue ribbon pin. I'm not giving mine up now! Too valuable!

Next time you come to Honolulu, I'll let you wear it for a little while, tho....
;)

No pin but a prous holder of the "Fodor's Guide to Packing".

Sigh...I do miss the days before registration from time to time.

PamSF Sep 6th, 2005 12:19 AM

OMG~that would be "proud"...

Can someone show me this pin? I mean, I could be on a plane sitting next to iceeu2, HowardR, or maybe even the robe trotting Muffin, and not know it! Do ya think us non-pin owners could wear some other form of ID to signify us as the "non-blue pin" members? And no, I am not painting my face blue.

MelissaHI Sep 6th, 2005 01:13 AM

drat. In older times I'd tell you to look for the fodors logo--looks like a guy flying off, kind of a cartoony snow angel. but I only just noticed that they got rid of the logo on the site!

Betsy Sep 6th, 2005 05:36 AM

Unfortunately that little flying logo guy has fled the site, but the pin is round, about the size of a dime. The background is two shades of blue. In front of the blue is the Fodor's guy appearing to fly off the pin. Beneath the blue globe is a gold-backed bar with "fodors.com" in the lighter shade of blue. It's backed with one of those tie-tack thingies that poked through the envelope the pin was mailed in. Hope this helps you identify any pin-wearing Fodorites out there.

Kal Sep 6th, 2005 06:10 AM

Happy "Monday"!!!

If you hit "e-mail this thread" at the bottom of a message you can still see "blue fly guy".

Hey! Anyone still have the Fodor's magnets?:-B

HowardR Sep 6th, 2005 06:19 AM

Kal, you get the Fodor's "Blue Flying Guy Award" for the day for passsing along that info!

GoTravel Sep 6th, 2005 06:23 AM

I never got a pin. Sigh.

I even begged Danny for one when he left.

I miss being able to blame things on Danny.

Where. Is. Danny?

monicapileggi Sep 6th, 2005 06:24 AM

I still have my pin! It sits atop my book shelf. Haven't worn it in a long time.

Monica ((F))

PS: Melissa, I'll see you soon!

Kal Sep 6th, 2005 06:26 AM

Howard,
If that's the best thing that happens to me today then it's alllll goooood!!!!

ncgrrl Sep 6th, 2005 06:33 AM

My pin was mising for awhile, but returned from travel(l)ing earlier this year.

Even though I'm a born and bred Southerner, I'm not mailing it anywhere, it had a hard enough time in an envelope the first time around.

Jed Sep 6th, 2005 06:54 AM

I will wear mine today. In the past, no one has recognized it. :'(

Renee Sep 6th, 2005 06:56 AM

Lordy! I'd forgotten all about that pin....wish I knew where it was.....lol

MarthaT Sep 6th, 2005 07:25 AM

Found my pin in a drawer about two weeks ago.
Had to smile when I thought about all the fuss we made about this pin and the long threads a few years ago.

HowardR Sep 6th, 2005 07:33 AM

Ah, ain't it great to reminisce about the good old days!

Meredith Sep 6th, 2005 10:26 AM

I have a pin - and I'll be wearing it to the Atlanta GTG! :)
