So, Dick, you're back this lovely morning - did you do your homework and do you have your list?

Dick - don't recall the exact address....it's on the street which runs along the south side of the W Union Square (I'm pretty sure it's 17th street). Then you head about a block and a half east (a few storefronts past Irving Place). There are restaurants on the corner (one of which is the sushi place Yama) and it's just east of those restaurants on the north side of the street (literally tiny storefront that you would almost miss walking by). Also, if into funky little places.....Ninth Street Market is a great restaurant in the East Village (Ninth Street between First and Second Avenue). Great, small little place and they take reservations (almost required because they are so small). Enjoy.

x, the Caymus hardly qualifies as inexpensive, or even moderate for that matter, now does it?

I'm going to list afew inexpensive wines that I like....but first a disclaimer. This is my personal taste... your tastes wil probably be different. I still recommnend going to wine tastings at local wine shops. You get a chance to sample the wine before buying. Also Wine Spectator Magazine is a good source and they have a web site which rates many wines( winespectator.com). I've used wineshop suggestions, newspaper columns, such as the Washington Post. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/food/columns/wine/) and The Wall Street Journal (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/food/columns/wine/) My advice is to find a wine columnist that you relate to and try their suggestions. I'm only including some inexpensive wines $9-17...deliberately leaving out more expensive cabs, etc(I used Wine Spectator's suggestions for many of these) With that said... Cline Syrah --CA Echeclon California Syrah BArossa Valley Alliance Shiraz--AUS Badiola Toscany Red Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva Saint Cosme- Cotes du Rhone Kendall Jackson California Grand REserve Cabernet Chateau Souverain Cabernet Macon Ige- White Burgundy Santa MArgherita- Pinot Grigio Edna Valley Chardonay J Lohr Moonterey Chardonay For a bit more money.. Arrowood Cabernet--CA Fonterutoli Chianti Classic Riserva ( my favorite chianti)

Actually Caymus Conudrum is around 30 bucks in a wine shop. I would consider that moderate in price.

Maybe "what" is a cheapo and only spends no more then 10 dollars on wine. Caymus Conundrum is a wonderful find.

While we are on the subject of Caymus, The Napa 99 just got a very good review (93 or 94) from the Spectator. If you see a bottle be sure to pick it up.

Just had a nice bottle of Saintsbury, Brown Ranch, Pinot Noir last night and spent 130.
