How many vacation days do you receive a year?
 

Inspired by the where did you travel in 2004 thread. I noticed a lot of people taking multiple vacations in a year. Just curious how many vacation days do you receive a year? I receive 20 days but we usually do 1 or 2 vacations a year. This still leaves me vacation days to do stuff at home.

DH gets around 7 weeks between vacation, management leave days and floating holidays.

I get 4 weeks paid and then take off as much as I want unpaid.

When working full time, we usually took 10 -12 (5 day) weeks off for continuing education and vacation. I worked part time (26 - 37 weeks a year) 9/94 - 9/03 and I'm now retired.

I get 4 weeks paid vacation...but I also only work three-12 hour days a week ( I am a nurse). I can take a week off and not need to use any vacation hours. My husband retired in Jan. of 2003....so we do a lot of traveling.

DH and I receive 15 vacation days each year. Before our daughter was born, we'd take an additional 4 weeks off unpaid each year. We were lucky to take at least 3 or 4 big trips per year back then (Asia, Europe, Hawaii, Caribbean). This year we'll be going to Florida...

luvtravelin2 - 15 paid working days and the usual New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

I used to get Good Friday and a floating personal day but they were taken away starting 2005. The nursing home that I work at is going through some difficult times.

26 days with the option to buy or sell so that I end up in the 20 (min) to 40 (max) range. This excludes Bank Holidays (I think there are 8 of those altogether a year). I am in the UK.

At my job, the first year you get 5 days vacation, the 2nd-5th year you get 10 days, 5th-15th year you get 15 days, and after 15 years you get 20 days. And friends ask me why I've been at my job so long (13 years)...I'm just dying for that extra week off! ;) If I start a new job, it's back to square one. Nah...

Oh, but did you enjoy that extra day of vacation this year? Three more years till we get 365 days of vacation.

Both DH and I recently relocated and changed jobs, so we only get 2 weeks vacation days per year.

Before he worked 4 day on/4 days off and I worked 3 days on/4 days off. So we were able to travel more than we can now.

I miss those days very much.

DH owns his own business so we have no set number of vacation days. We can take as amany vacations days as we can as long as we keep the business running (we have 10 employees). DH takes about 4 weeks a year off, usually 1 whole week taken off, and then the other days taken off sporadically. In 2004, we took our 1st 2 week trip. The business survived and the employees were still there when we returned so we might try it again in 2005. We have to go to destinations where DH can use a phone if we are gone for more than a day or 2.

Someone remind me again what DH stands for.

I always read it as "Dear Husband" but if that's true - where are there no DW, "Dear Wives" mentioned in posts?

Well there are some similar ones. Don't I see LW for loving wife used here? How about BH for better half, or TB for The boss?

I get 6 weeks, plus lieu time calculated at 1 1/2 hours for every overtime hour worked. I've been at my job for nearly 24 years, which is why the perks are so good. I'm also getting an extra 21 hours (which works out to almost 3 days) as compensation for prep time, because I'm going to be teaching 2 days a week until mid-Feb. So there's a lot of vacation time; the only problem is that my colleagues are entitled to pretty much the same amount of time, and only a few of us can be away from the clinic simultaneously, so planning when to use all these vacation days can sometimes be complicated.

I work in public education, so I have 6-7 weeks off in the summer (unpaid), plus Christmas, Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks, again all unpaid. My salary is based on 210 working days/year. So basically, I have between 9-10 weeks off/year in which I can travel without being compensated. I do however, receive 5 personal and 10 sick days to use during my 210 working days, plus enough days out of the office for conferences/meetings to feel like a paid vacation ;)

Now I am jealous of everybody else on this site. I get a measly 10 days of vacation a year.

I have 10 paid holidays (plus one-half day on Dec. 24, if the weeks fall right), and 21 days/year paid vacation. If I stay in my current position, I'll max out at 24 days/year after August 2006.

I get 4 weeks paid, and 8 holidays, plus 2 floating holidays. However, I am bound to the "billable hour" so I rarely take a day off. Usually just a Friday or Monday a couple times a year. I took a week in November, and it was my first real vacation since I started working. I hate billable hours!

My DH gets three weeks per year. He works shift workin the oil industry, however, which means that once his days off are added his total vacation is more than that. He also fills in for management being on call 24/7 at various times during the year without extra pay, so they allow him to take as many personal days as he wants during the year, within reason of course.

When my employer approached me about the job I have, she knew that I enjoy traveling quite a bit. So, she offered that I could have as much time as I want off per year. I don't get paid for anything over two weeks, but that is fine since my salary goes mainly to the travel fund anyhow.

5 Holidays from the Company (Christmas, Thanksgiving,etc.) I then get 15 days vacation and 4-5 days of personal days (if I want to take off MLK or Boxing Day, etc...) Whatever it is, I always leave 5 to 7 days on the table as I have too much work to take all those days............................

Officially 10 days a year. However, we've got quite a bit of flexibility and I have plenty of opportunity to take days here and there if I want. Having the ability to do that makes it possible to do a few 3 and 4 day trips a year, in addition to a long family vacation.

The approach our CEO has taken is that we're all professionals and the "rules" are meant to stop those who'd abuse official policy and not meant to stop those who understand "in moderation."

Last year, I probably took about 15 days total. Funny thing is, that's about the same as I took when I worked at a firm where I had 25 vacation days. On paper, we had a ton of vacation but I don't think I knew one person who ever came close. The unwritten code was that there was a career price to pay for appearing "uncommitted."

I'm a teacher and am under contract to work 190 days/school year--of course that doesn't count the sick and personal days. I'm not complaining, I may not make a ton but I do have time to myself. Too bad my husband doesn't have the amount of vacation days I do. He may make more than me but it's hard for him to get away.

15 vacation days, plus 10 paid holidays. In another year I'll start getting 20 vacation days--hurray...

Seems like it's never enough, regardless.

I get five weeks of vacation paid, plus 16 days for holidays (also paid) and I can buy up to 9 additional days at a reduced rate. I've been with the company 34 years.

I guess my job isn't so bad after all. I get 24 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 6 major holidays. Plus off evey weekend.

I *earn* four weeks per year, 15 days plus 5 holidays.

I think I am the winner :)- 8 paid weeks off per year (plus an overpaid job- with low stress. I take 5-6 vacations per year!!!!!!!!

26 days + 10 Family care days (illness, etc.) + bank holidays.

20 vaca + 5 floating holidays + 5 regular holidays (July4, Christmas etc). Been here 15 years, need 20 to get 25 vaca. Not bad. But I use most of it to cover the kids vacations from school. We usually only take 1 trip per year.

I have 25 days of vacation each year. I lose! I get 15 days-3 weeks per year and am in a job where I have an "hours" requirement so when I take time off I have to make it up at some point! I really need to win the lottery.

Gard, I had to laugh when you spent your US time in NY-understandable and Ohio! How did you come up with Ohio. Nothing against Ohio it just doesn't seem like the typical place someone would pick to go on vacation when coming from Europe.

I work at an Atlanta printing co. and mine was just increased this year to 15 days. I always try to link them with holidays(we're union, so we always get 2 days off for Christmas & New Year's and Thanksgiving. Nov. works out for a great, drawn out vacation time-last year we went to Italy that month and had a ball.
