Couldn't agree more with Lenore's comments, and just returned from a visit to Las Vegas last week. Flying to Las Vegas from the east is an incredible experience in itself - an awesome view of many of the things that make this such a great country - humbling in its expanse. And Vegas is quite simply all about attitude and tolerance. Las Vegas too, is one of the things that make this such a great country.

Went there in March..HATED It. To each their own i guess. I foudn it everything that is wrong with today's culture..tacky and plastic. I didn't find the hotels that spectacular either..they are ok for a second to look at from teh outside..but indside they all have the feel of a mall food court. Rather save my money and go someplace fabulous like Brazil or Croatia

I always have fun in Vegas. A few days there every year or two is great! I enjoy the gambling and the sports book, but I can see how a non-gambler wouldn't need to make a return visit.

I agree with Lenore and Speedo. I've been to Vegas twice. I find it to be fun and completely different from anything else. It's an excuse to let go and have fun. Both times we made sure to take time for side trips, so we had a little bit of both worlds. I wouldn't want to go there all the time because I like other places as well..the ocean, mountains, cities, etc. I don't think it's fair to put down people who do like Vegas. To each their own.

I enjoy Vegas and not a big gambler. Play the nickel slots or roulette a little. It's a fun atmosphere. Where else can you go for a economical price. We enjoy the variety of food, entertainment etc.... Nice sightseeing town.

Hi, Just went to Vegas for the first time. LOVE IT!!! Can't wait to go back. My husband & I don't gamble but found so much to do. We were ther only two days but only made it to half the strip. Loved M&M world, The Fountains at Bellagio and the Chuhuli celing is a don't miss. I was almost scared away from the Bellagio buffet by the price but was glad we went. So much good food well worth the price. Didn't go to a show but would like to. At the end of the day it was so nice to take advantage of the moving sidewalks and trams. Next time we are renting a car and avoiding the Bell trans rip-off.

I love Las Vegas, as a matter of fact I just returned from my 3rd trip this year and I live on the east coast. I receive great deals in the mail from the various casinos almost weekly and I'm not at all a big gambler. I prefer to spend my money shopping and at the spas. Since I'm a night person, I enjoy travelling to places that have a great night life. I hardly ever have a problem getting an upgraded room(free) and I've met some very nice people there even from my home town. To the people who don't like Vegas, that's your choice. I just don't understand why you need to be so nasty and call people names. I think that there are many people out there, myself included who can have a good time no matter where we travel to.

Went to Vegas for the 1st time on a girls 30th birthday weekend a few years ago.
After a humid southern summer, I couldn't wait to get into the sunny desert, lay by the pool, have good meals and drinks, see some sights, the works.
It rained most of the weekend we were there. IN THE DESERT! How unfair.

I had truly thought the scene in the casinos would be glamorous, like a James Bond movie. It was more like BRANSON, MO at every turn. Every hotel lobby is configured so that you have to wind your way through a crowded casino. What a hassle. Walking down the street, what a hassle. People everywhere.

My friends and I all got Montezuma's Revenge from the seafood buffet at the RIO. Bars were all cheesy (with the exception of the rooftop place on top of the Rio, which we couldn't really enjoy since we were there right after the aforementioned seafood buffet).

Rides and other gimmicks designed to attract more families are OK, but Disney does it better. For that matter Six Flaggs does it better too. Hell, the county fair does it better.

The place looks best at night. There's something so depressing about the Las Vegas strip in the light of day.

Brides -- there were brides all over the place, not one of them smiling. Lots of angry looking brides stomping around in their dresses.

Would I go back? Yes, since my husband has never been there and he would give his right arm to see Hoover Dam. I would go back to take day trips out into the desert (the surrounding areas look spectacular). Plus where else could we renew our vows at a drive-thru? I will take it all with a grain of salt next time.

Were I living in the midwest (as the original question poster says he does), I would appreciate Vegas for a quick, convenient and inexpensive way to get some sun during the bitter winter. If you are into all night rowdy parties it's a great place. I wish I had lived in the era of Mob Vegas, because I think it would have been more my style than Corporate Vegas is. Less tacky and you would have been able to catch Frank, Dean and Sammy in the Copa Room.
Lara,
Vegas isn't that bad. I think you just had a bad weekend with the weather and all it kind made the trip a bummer all around. Plus you have to factor in if you go on the weekends, there is a whole different crowd. Weekends bring in more visitors from California and the younger rowdy crowd. We always go during the week when it's less crowded with different type of people. I enjoy Vegas and could go yearly. I never go during the summer. Try to go either spring or mainly fall.
